I've read that
Blue tin Nivea is a cheaper version of creme de la mer so I've bought 3 tins!

Please can Anyone recommend anything that is as good as the branded version but cheaper?

Does anyone know where I can buy 'makeup revolution' makeup? A nurse told me that C & G and Aptamil was the same after the birth of dd and breastfeeding not working out

AYankinSpanx · 05/03/2017 22:52

Superdrug stock MU Revolution EZA15, or buy online. I liked one of their mascaras, but it's been discontinued.

CountClueless · 06/03/2017 11:24

I just bought Primark stick foundation, and its miles better than the L'Oreal I've been using, and about a quarter of the price, if that. Their PS range is amazing.

unlucky but, if you can buy own brand Weetabix, it's still cheaper to eat Tesco own, even if you eat 50% more.... However, the biscuits weigh the same... so, here's a comparison is as follows:

Weetabix Branded
RRP for 48 biscuits is £4+
Each biscuit weighs 18.75g
8.3p per biscuit
16.6p per portion (37.5g)

Tesco own
RRP for 48 £2.50
Each biscuit weighs 18.75g (same as Weetabix)
5.2p per biscuit
10.40p per portion (37.5g)

Tesco Value
RRP for 48 (2x24 boxes) £1.50
Each biscuit weighs 18g (so only 1.5g less per portion)
3.125p per biscuit
6.25p per portion

Just say you have the same cereal every day for the year so we can see a price across the year for the portion of 2 biscuits
Annual cost of cereal:
Weetabix: £60.59
Tesco: £37.96
Tesco Value: £22.81

Now, even if you had 3 each of Tesco own and value - it would still be cheaper than the branded cereal

2 x Weetabix = £60.59
3 x Tesco biscuits = £56.94
3 x Value biscuits = £34.22

00100001 · 06/03/2017 11:43

I forgot to add, you could have 4 or 5 value biscuits, and it would still be cheaper than Weetabix.

4 x Value biscuits: £45.62
5 x Value biscuits: £57.03

AYankinSpanx thank you

unlucky83 · 06/03/2017 13:37

00100001 - thank you Smile - that is just the kind of thing I was going to work out -when I eventually got round to it ...Grin
The only thing I will say is I stock up when they are on special offer and they often are - at the moment they are £3 for 48 in Tescos (6.25p per biscuit) or even better - £4 for 72 in Asda - so 5.55p per biscuit - so 0.3p more expensive than Tesco own brand...But now I know they weigh the same I could go for Tesco's own brand ...
Just had a look at mysupermarket to check I was right about the special offers and found it gives you the biscuit weight! I thought I was going to have to weigh them ....
I did used to get Morrisons own brand - and I looked and they are 18g - so I wasn't imagining it -they were lighter!
(Lidl's seem to be 20g per biscuit - so even better value...)

And I checked this as well - Lidl box of rip off 'shreddies' - is 625g and Tescos is 750g but apparently Lidl still works out slightly less (1.7p!) than per 100g than Tescos...(but not as big a difference as it seems with Tesco's £1.19 a box compared to Lidl 89p...the same size in Lidl would be £1.12)
Now stepping away from my supermarket before I get (more) obsessed....

Audreyhelp · 06/03/2017 13:45

Wow 001 you like maths

00100001 · 06/03/2017 13:54

audrey I have too much time on my hands apparently Grin

unlucky I had to assume full price (for fairness!) - sometimes the tesco ones are reduced part of a 3 for £3 thing etc :)

As for stepping away... I know how you feel!

kwick · 06/03/2017 14:42

Really fancy some Weetabix now...

Astoria7974 · 06/03/2017 14:54

Almond milk can be made at home using blanched almonds ground to a paste in a nutribullet & usually works out far cheaper.

An Indian grandma tip - Oiling dry lentils makes them last bug free for years.

SistersOfPercy · 06/03/2017 14:58

On the back of this thread I went out and bought a HUUGE tub of Nivea Soft from Home Bargains. I have very dry skin indeed and get Aveeno on prescription, but quite frankly I find it greasy and not at all pleasant.
Anyway, I bloody love the Nivea Soft, absorbs really quickly and my arms are looking much better in 24 hours.

shovetheholly · 06/03/2017 16:23

I am SO impressed by the Weetabix calculations. Amazing work.

00100001 · 06/03/2017 16:59

You're welcome Grin

Who knew (vefore today) that value weetabix was 0.75g lighter per biscuit, and around 3 times cheaper than the branded version?

00100001 · 06/03/2017 16:59

it's a dull life I lead...

hollyisalovelyname · 06/03/2017 17:36

Boots 17 cream bronzer is a dupe for Chanel Soleil du Chanel cream bronzer.

TinfoilHattie · 06/03/2017 17:49

I also really rate Zara perfumes - they are not "smell-a-likes" for the major brands but at around £10 for 100ml they are excellent value and very nice.

kwick · 06/03/2017 18:48

Love this thread

hellokittymania · 06/03/2017 19:02

I'm loving this thread !!

MrDacresEUSubsidy · 06/03/2017 19:53

Nivea soft is amazing. It's like witchdraft - moisturising but not greasy nor heavily perfumed...and not eleventy billion quid either.

I do my own nails to save time and money. I love Rimmel's nail polishes - cheap but pretty effective when topped with Sally Hansen Insta-Dry, which gives a gel polish high shine and also dries them off enough so that you can get on with things rather than wasting away waiting for your nails to dry.

Tried Nads today after reading the thread recommendation. It stung like a bastard but I'm hoping it will do the trick. You can make your own aspirin and isopropyl alcohol version but I've gone for the time-saving option and bought something ready-made from Boots instead!

fulloffunreally · 06/03/2017 20:01

I did have to laugh when someone said it's the Nivea pushers on here!

That Nivea Soft is the fekkin best kept secret ever.

I have no associations with Nivea, none. But honestly that product sorts everything out. So soft, so nice. Worth a try.

I get organisms (huh) when I see it bogof in Boots, or three for two.

But I am a fan. Big fan.

SistersOfPercy · 06/03/2017 20:10

I do my own acrylics using the dip system fromArgos. Ridiculously easy and last as long as any salon nails I've ever had.

Once I'd used the kit and established I could do it I bought the powder and sprays direct from Amazon.

Not sure how much Nivea is in Boots btw, but was £2.99 or £3.99 in Home Bargains for a huge tub.

Gwenhwyfar · 06/03/2017 20:16

I think the Palmers cocoa butter creams are better then Nivea creams/body butters. Also very cheap.

OhHolyJesus · 06/03/2017 21:24

Just found Waitrose Pure range has a cleansing and exfoliating powder - I'm sure the ingredients are inferior to Dermalogica's microfoliant but at roughly £35 cheaper (currently on sale for £2 for a small pot) I'll can live with it and I'm a huge Dermalogica fan and have been using their stuff for years.
