Can anyone help? I'm a dedicated reader of these threads but keep having trouble with safari not loading the pages, driving me nuts! So I got the app - now I don't know how it works! I can read everything, but don't know how to bookmark so I can find my place - any clues would be much appreciated! Smile

Hang on a minute we seem to be going off at a tangent.
Are we being Destabilised Perceptively?

MsHooliesCardigan · 06/03/2017 10:05

I am considering doing an evening class after Easter. I was going to go for creative writing but am now seriously considering Russian.

susyot · 06/03/2017 10:11

Fantastic to bookmark swipe left on the post you want to mark and option comes up to bookmark. Similarly to "watch" a thread swipe left in the topics list on the thread you want to watch.

saffronwblue · 06/03/2017 10:13

Sorry Fantastic (and hi!) I have been struggling with the same issue myself.
According to the NYT, the EO is going to focus on refugees and exclude Iraq.

Hope the so-called judges are sharpening their red pens in readiness.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/03/2017 10:14

FantasticButtocks there are yuge problems with the site at the moment for many of us (multiple threads in Site Stuff about it)

In desperation, several of us - me included - have installed Adblock Plus, which is free from the Appstore. It fixed the safari issues for me.

It's certainly harshing my mellow on my 'phone posting. I'm on my laptop at the mo/desktop site & that seems less glitchy, but the mobile version is very frustrating (to the point of forcing me off MN). Will install Adblock Plus and see if that helps - thanks for the tip Bore.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/03/2017 10:43

Make sure you activate it in Settings after installation

FantasticButtocks · 06/03/2017 10:44

Thank you! What a relief! So many times in the last few days I've settled down for a good catch up only to find nothing works and I keep fiddling with the settings on my phone and now I don't know what's supposed to be turned on or off! This fab technology is great but sadly I'm a techy fuckwit and don't know how to get the best out of all the fancy equipment. Thank you so much for info about the swiping you lovely people Smile

Still obsessively following these threads. Thanks all.

In answer to the question about whether Obama could sue for libel - nbc have considered this

www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/analysis-does-obama-have-grounds-sue-trump-libel-n729376

I am so upset on Obama's behalf. Surely actions like this put Obama in danger of some mad Trump supporter taking action to harm him? It's frightening me Angry

I don't think Donald Duck has it in him to be that calculating
Is he stoopid like a fox
Or just plain stoopid?

BiglyBadgers · 06/03/2017 11:08

I agree with hoolies. I am increasingly convinced that Trump's tweets and statements are not a conspiracy from him, but a genuine incompetence and instability. He sees news, he reacts, he tweets. He lives completely in the moment. He says in speeches what he wants people to hear and then does what is easiest. So he said he would use American steel because he wanted the applause, he doesn't consider anything past that point. How he will deliver that doesn't even enter his head. When he is then sitting in a meeting with people buying the steel he will agree to what they say as in that moment he wants their adoration. Of course this trait can be used by people who do have ambitions and push him to agree what they want. It is a dangerous strategy though as people like this are incredibly erratic and just as likely to agree with the opposite of what you want.

I have had a manager just like this. She would sit in a meeting and agree whatever madness the other person wanted. She would then sit with me agreeing it was madness and we definitely would not do it. She would of course leave me to deal with the people who she had told would get whatever they wanted even though we could not possibly deliver it. She also, never, ever admitted she was wrong. Angry

Is everyone preparing for the new travel ban? Rumoured to be signed today?

GingerIvy · 06/03/2017 11:13

Rumour has it that Iraq will be taken from the list due to them helping fight ISIS, however, as they were adamant last time that those 7 countries MUST be stopped from entering, doesn't that alone significantly weaken their case? As does Miller's interview in which he said it was to keep people from those countries competing for American jobs? As does their delaying it to allow it to have "its own moment" and such......

I imagine this will immediately have numerous legal challenges to it - challenges that will likely be valid.

PausingFlatly · 06/03/2017 11:17

I'm pretty sure 45 is the dead cat.

(For those not on earlier threads: if you want to distract people from the important stuff, throw a feline on a table and yell, "Woaah, look at the dead cat!")

BiglyBadgers · 06/03/2017 11:18

Oh, and the manager I had like this is not at all stupid. She is actually very smart and charismatic. She has the knack of making it so you absolutely believe her when she says she agrees with you to the extent that I think she actually does believe it at that moment. It's just that an hour later she will absolutely believe the opposite when she is with someone else. I worked with her for 8 years and still find it really hard not to like her even though she totally screwed me over more than once and I know I can not believe a single word she says. I think trump is a very extreme version of her and I can see why it has got him this far and why people continue to believe he is on their side.

peaceout · 06/03/2017 11:37

Very interesting bigly, its as if he has cast a spell over some people but those who aren't spellbound are revolted

BiglyBadgers · 06/03/2017 11:52

I think it is an approach that only works when you can target specific messages to specific people. Now he is president we can see everything he says and does, so we can all see his inconsistencies. Unless of course you only read right wing news sources like those discussed in the link I put up earlier. As Trump supporters get their news from a smaller more partisan pool they only get the targeted stuff and didn't see the inconsistencies. Hence Trump supporters still believe he is their best friend and everyone else realises he is actually nuts.

Ginger. What can I say - she opened her mouth.

cozietoesie · 06/03/2017 12:15

By the way, I thought the WH weren't going to comment on this topic again? Smile

GingerIvy · 06/03/2017 12:16

Isn't it sort of accepted wisdom that you publicly don't ask a question for which you don't already know the answer in situations like this??

Not that "wisdom" is a word I'd use in association with anyone on Trump's team. Hmm

GingerIvy · 06/03/2017 12:17

cozie they've done nothing BUT comment, since they said they weren't going to comment.
