To be irritated by kids dressing up as Buzz Lightyear on World Book Day?

It's World Book Day. Children are invited to go to school as their favourite book character. Why oh why is Facebook full of photos of little darlings dressed as Buzz Lightyear & various Disney Princesses?!
For some reason it really makes my teeth itch! GrinGrinGrin

Sorry but running around after DC letting them change their mind up to the night before is weak parenting.

You ask them when the letter comes out, explain the budget and resources constraint and then explain that once they have decided that is it.

No way would I be running around at the last minute because my little emperor had changed his/her mind at the last minute. It's a life lesson you make your mind up and stick with it particularly when somebody is helping you.

wow your house must be full of empathy, fun and joy.

Hope you are teaching your child to be as judgemental and bitchy, so they can pull their judgy pants on easily.

could there possibly be any space for an insecure child who doesn't want to look silly in a costume, and once they have heard what everyone else is going as, get cold feet about their choice, and will probably have a panic meltdown?
Or even, that the school's first letter just said dress up and the second one decided there was a theme?
Or just responding to please, please, please Mummy? I am, after all, not a policewoman, and being nice is allowed as a mother sometimes I believe.

My house is not run as a gestapo headquarters. Pick your battles and all that.

My personal favourite was dd1 in year 6, who went in as the wardrobe from Lion, witch and wardrobe. Inspired by me wrestling a large cardboard box into the recycling.
The only slight fly in the ointment was she told another girl the day before and that girl also came in as a wardrobe. (but dd's was better)

If you're seeing it on Facebook then it's because your friends are doing it - why not ask them?

MycatsaPirate · 03/03/2017 14:52

I saw someone's kid dressed up as Donald Trump.

Obviously from some sort of horror book.

nokidshere · 03/03/2017 14:56

Seriously? Who even cares what children are wearing, especially other people's?

There were lots of happy, dressed up children yesterday at our primary school, they all looked fab regardless of what they were wearing.

My own two, now teenagers, always went in jeans and t shirt and, if asked, they were either horrid Henry or Charlie cook.

Our school did pyjama day and the teachers read bedtime stories. Perfect! Most kids have a pyjama at home so no hassle. Of course some whinging about the kids being cold....sigh. Put an extra t-shirt and long johns under it then

My year 4 child loves sharing books and reading independently. Hates dressing up wth a passion. For world book day he went in plain clothes a some random kid from a book. Does the fact he didn't really dress up affect his love of reading? No. Am I lazy not making up dress up in an outfit he would detest? No. Did he enjoy world book as much as the other children? Yes. Where there Buzz lightyears? Yes. Dress up day or which character they choose to be has zero to do with their love of books. Once your child has done a few years of it you really won't care who dresses as what.

WBD is utter crap. No need for it. Just go to school like normal.

My kids like to read but don't like to dress up in silly costumes. (getting too big for that apparently)

It's a needless pain in the arse!

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 03/03/2017 16:11

Saw someone on FB whose child's WBD outfit was inspired by the 'CBBC magazine'
That's not a book. Hmm

Like blokes who on their OLD profiles in 'fave book' section say "Does FHM count?!" No. Block.

bumsexatthebingo · 03/03/2017 18:36

GreenGinger surely it is the 'comic books don't count' parents who are limiting their children's reading?
