HELP!!!! I have Vaseline in my hair and a job interview in 3 hours

user1488318718 · 02/03/2017 09:36

My lovely well meaning friend gave me a scalp conditioner she uses to help with an itchy scalp.

I put some in last night and went to rinse it out but the water just ran off it. Checked the ingredients and it's petroleum jelly (Vaseline)!!!

This is completely repellent of water.

I've tried an entire box of cornstarch!

Rubbing olive oil in to dissolve

Egg white

Five washes of fairy liquid

Five washes of bar soap.

NOTHING is making any difference.

My hair is one greasy mess. Not the type that would go unnoticed. It looks like I have poured a vat of vegetable oil all over my hair.

I'm sat here is an absolute state. I have no idea what to do. I have short hair so no disguising.

Is there ANYTHING I can do?

This is my dream job. I don't want to cancel the job interview. Will I have to?

Slow breaths into the abdomen to calm you down. Hope all goes well

Whiterabbitears · 02/03/2017 11:55

What about a little bit of liquid detergent for clothes? It may break down the grease? I feel for you how horribly stressful which you don't need! Hope interview goes well.

I have propranolol! Thankfully!

I have an hour between my interview and when the train gets in.

Would dry shampoo be a bad idea? Worried it would stick to the Vaseline and make it worse. Cornflour made no difference.

At this point, I would try and forget about your hair and focus on the interview. The risk is you make it worse by applying something else, and don't have access to water to wash it out, or get something on your interveiw outfit.

Good luck!

irishlass1234 · 02/03/2017 12:37

Could you wipe it with loads of baby wipes?

pinkish · 02/03/2017 13:47

Hope it's gone well. We are all rooting for you!!

MistyMeena · 02/03/2017 14:01

Hope the interview goes well!

I once had the bright idea of trying to condition my dry hair with baby oil - took about 10 washes to get rid of it!

StiickEmUp · 02/03/2017 14:05

Good luck !! Let us know !

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 02/03/2017 14:10

Hope the interview went well.

user1485984489 · 02/03/2017 14:20

Let us know how the interview went!

littlemissneela · 02/03/2017 14:39

I hope the interview went well.

My ds when he was about 3 or 4, rubbed a whole pot of Vaseline into his hair! It was caked in it. The only thing which got it out was several washes with Fairy Liquid and rinse out with as hot as you can bear water.

SiestaFiesta · 02/03/2017 14:44

You need to put shampoo in when your hair is dry not wet, then lather wet and rinse.

user1488318718 · 02/03/2017 15:04

I doubt I got the job. I gave some good answers but was so nervous and went blank on the first question.

I need to work on my interview skills!

I really wanted that job. Had spent weeks revising for it. Ah well!

Least my hair wasn't greasy!

BettyBaggins · 02/03/2017 15:26

Ahhh you maybe surprised yet re the job. And from this day forth stand back from the vaseline! Grin

HellonHeels · 02/03/2017 15:45

Don't worry abut going blank on the first question. That wouldn't necessarily put me off if the rest of your answers were good.

BadKnee · 02/03/2017 16:57

Sorry the interview didn't go well OP. Better luck next time.

You showed initiative by asking on here though. Hope that serves you well next time.

It reminded me of a time when I was a teen and I conditioned my own hair with baby oil. The lanolin in it was much the same as the Vaseline. I had a date that night. I was frantic. In the end I said I was sick and didn't go on the date. The babyoil took days to wash out!!

ChrisYoungFuckingRocks · 02/03/2017 18:44

I know this is probably too late, but if it happens again, always put shampoo on hair without wetting it first. Work it through properly and then rinse in warm/hot water.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 02/03/2017 18:52

And you've learned rule number 1 in the interview process; Don't sleep with a pot of vaseline in your hair the night before Wink

When you do get it all washed out, your hair will likely be incredibly soft and shiny, so silver lining there.

user1488318718 · 02/03/2017 19:33

Thanks everyone.

My answers were too simplistic. But I didn't do terribly. The person before me was in and out in 15 mins so at least I did better than that! 😂

Spoke to my Jamaican friends. She says she uses small amounts on her scalp and leaves it in. It can't be seen behind an Afro.

Key words being SMALL AMOUNTS and AFRO! Not large amounts on very fine, thin hair.

Try a cheap shampoo and leave it on for a few minutes.
I use these type of products on my hair ( do not have afto caribbean hair) and it's never stayed in my hair Afterwards.

AllyJ83 · 02/03/2017 20:11

I did this in my baby daughters hair to get rid of cradle cap. It worked really well but ended up like you are describing! She's a baby with a lot of hair too. Anyway after the cornstarch then shampoo about 5 times it was only slightly better. In the end I just kept washing it and eventually it came out. Took us about 3 days but as she was only 6 months I couldn't keep washing lots in one go. Just keep washing, it will eventually go. For future reference, Head and Shoulders shampoo works 👍🏻 Good luck.

LoupGarou · 02/03/2017 20:20

I hope you do get the job Smile

I always keep Dawn dish soap (the blue one) in the house for emergencies of this kind, its what rescuers use to clean wildlife after oil spills.
