HELP!!!! I have Vaseline in my hair and a job interview in 3 hours

My lovely well meaning friend gave me a scalp conditioner she uses to help with an itchy scalp.

I put some in last night and went to rinse it out but the water just ran off it. Checked the ingredients and it's petroleum jelly (Vaseline)!!!

This is completely repellent of water.

I've tried an entire box of cornstarch!

Rubbing olive oil in to dissolve

Egg white

Five washes of fairy liquid

Five washes of bar soap.

NOTHING is making any difference.

My hair is one greasy mess. Not the type that would go unnoticed. It looks like I have poured a vat of vegetable oil all over my hair.

I'm sat here is an absolute state. I have no idea what to do. I have short hair so no disguising.

Is there ANYTHING I can do?

This is my dream job. I don't want to cancel the job interview. Will I have to?

I would suggest attacking it with dry shampoo and styling it out for your interview. Concentrate on your clothes and makeup looking polished and then forget it completely. You don't want it to distract from the interview.

Vosene Original anti dandruff is very effective at removing greasy residue.
Use loads and leave on for ten minutes, then rinse with hot water.

Good luck.

Something similar happened to me when I tried putting Vaseline on baby ds's hair to get rid of his cradle cap the day before he started nursery. I couldn't wash it out and panicked. Someone on here suggested whisky. I can confirm that doesn't work either, then I sent my baby to nursery smelling of spirits and was worried social services would get involved!

I reckon swarfega is absolutely your best bet. Good luck!

I tired bicarb. It did help a bit. Soap, fairy liquid etc made no difference.

In a moment of true desperation I grabbed a bottle of Coca Cola and moved it with bicarb and it worked!!!

Coca Cola!!!

What is in that stuff???

I've run out of anymore time. If I had more I'd have tried the bicarb and coke mix to get the remainder out but I have to set off shortly as the interview is over an hour away!

Thanks everyone.

My hair now has a beautiful glossy shine randomly!

Now I need to relax as I've wasted all of yesterday evening and this morning with this.

Neat shampoo rubbed in and rinsed out works

Goosewings · 02/03/2017 10:30

Your hair needs to be dry when you apply the shampoo. Then wash it out. Do this a couple of times if necessary.

TheOnlyLivingBoyinNewCork · 02/03/2017 10:30

Don't put bicarb in your hair! You use that to unblock drains etc it can't be good for your hair!

You also put it in your cakes, try some logic!

Babydontcry · 02/03/2017 10:30

Pleased it's fixed, good luck with your interview

Good luck with your interview OP!

LilacSpatula · 02/03/2017 10:33

Good luck!

WorshipTheGourd · 02/03/2017 10:34

I would attend the interview and tell them the truth, briefly, at the start.
Be calm, smile, and say that it has reminded you how you can hold your head in a crisis!
It might just swing it for you.
I'd be far more impressed with that than if you fib and reschedule. If they offer you tomorrow then your hair might still not be at it's best and you cant have two 'car/plumbing' crises?

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 02/03/2017 10:34

Right. Good. Move on from the hair. Relax. Rock whatever style your hair has ended up in! Good luck Flowers

BathshebaDarkstone · 02/03/2017 10:35

Be careful with Swarfega though, it can cause dermatitis. This happened to XH, he was a gemologist and used it to wash nasty chemicals off his hands.

therealmrsjolly · 02/03/2017 10:43

Just checked back to see if you'd got it out. Yeay!! Smile Good luck with the interview!

Mingewithafringe · 02/03/2017 10:45

Well done OP and best of luck with your interview. I would tell them the story, they will find it hilarious and will help them warm to you. A bit of humility and showing you have the ability to laugh at yourself is a wonderful trait in a prospective employee

BettyBaggins · 02/03/2017 10:45

Knock 'em dead!

GeorgiePeachie · 02/03/2017 10:46

Also when I put coco butter in my hair washing with conditioner and then shampoo twice that helped...

spiderlight · 02/03/2017 10:47

Yay - good luck!! My mum used to use Coke to clean her loo - it's powerful stuff.

notgivingin789 · 02/03/2017 10:47

I have Afro Hair and would leave Vaseline or any other cream in my hair. My hair gets very dry so I need to leave in some cream to moisten it otherwise it breaks.

Sorry OP, know nothing about this but wishing you luck :)

c0nfused · 02/03/2017 10:49

Tie your hair back and if it feels appropriate use it as an ice breaker type conversation at the interview Grin

Get to a hairdresser afterwards and ask for some kind of treatment mask or whatever, they might have something to help!

BillyDaveysDaughter · 02/03/2017 10:50

Oh my, poor you OP - glad you got the worst of it out, and GOOD LUCK with the interview!

Gunpowder · 02/03/2017 10:57

Yay! I bet you get the job in the end. Good luck Smile

ThunderClouds · 02/03/2017 11:17

Phew!! Hope it goes well!

SloanyAnne · 02/03/2017 11:23

Good luck OP.

user1488318718 · 02/03/2017 11:50

Thanks everyone. Hair still looks a bit greasy but hoping it's not noticeable. It's had a haircut two days ago which looked beautiful too 😭 Time to revise while on the train. I'm terrified!
