To think DS doesn't need to go to the GP?

DS is 5.5 months old, though was 6 weeks premature. Twice I have taken him to A&E when he has had a high temperature and was unwell in himself, and both times he was admitted for a few days with bronchiolitis (I say this to show that the twice I have been concerned I was right to be).

DS has had a mild temperature since Monday night (goes down with calpol, the highest was 39 last night which dropped about 30 mins after calpol and hasnt been above 38 since then), and has lost his voice. I think he has a sore throat and ears and he's a little sniffly. He's a little more tired than normal and very cuddly, and although he's grizzlier than normal, he is still happy and playful and happy to flap around / play in his jumparoo / read stories etc.

There aren't any Gp appointments and I am convinced they will just tell me to manage symptoms and come back if it gets worth anyway. I could take him to a walk in unit- will be a 2-3 hour wait. AIBU to avoid the GP or would you go if nothing changes?

Assuming he is drinking normally I wouldn't be too worried and think you are right. That said if in doubt don't hesitate to get him checked.

I assume with the history you are more than aware what to look for for signs of respiratory distress.

I wouldn't go unless things change tbh. I'm a natural worried and one thing I learned in my ds's first year was that, if I wasn't worried, there was nothing to worry about.

Ah sorry, yes, I should have said he has been eating like normal with usual amount of wet nappies.

His little cry is just heart breaking though- not of itself a reason to go to the GP but it's like he can barely squeak it out :-(.

As long as he's breathing ok and having plenty of wet nappies it doesn't sound like it's anything you need to go to a&e over.

You can give nurofen as well.

As pp said, if breathing is ok and he's getting plenty of fluids, and his temp is under control, I wouldn't worry. It sounds like he's caught the cold that's been doing the rounds. I lost my voice for two days last week. Dp started with it yesterday.

Hugh, thankfully after I wrote he didn't need anymore calpol or nurofen to bring his temperature down, and his symptoms improved quickly. He still has no voice bless him, but otherwise he is fine! Thanks all for your reassurance.
