Round at the MIL & FIL visiting and DH left a tub of babys formula on the kitchen side when he made a bottle up for baby. Few hours go by and it's time for us too leave. I notice the baby formula isn't in the bag, ask DH where it is. He goes and searches the kitchen and comes out confused that it wasn't in there. Me, DH and MIL spend the next few minutes searching with no luck. MIL asks FIL has he saw the baby formula, he responds don't think so. We say are you sure and describe the box. He tells us
" what the empty one you left on the side? I took it outside with the rest of the recycling "

DH told his dad that it wasn't empty, how did he not notice when he lifted it up. His dad just started muttering too himself. Poor MIL went outside to see if she could salvage it but FIL must have pushed the boxes down as you do too make more room, so a squished formula box with a lot of it leaked it.

MIL is mortified and has offered to give us money too replace it, we have refused as it wasn't done purposley, just a " oops sorry silly me " of FIL would do. But apparently our fault for putting the formula on the side. Now we have the fun of tracking down baby formula on a Sunday evening when supermarkets and chemists are closed. Thank god for corner shops and garages being open!

AIBU too think FIL was being a bit giddy with his recycling or was it out fault for leaving it on the kitchen side?

side note - MIL manages too contain her recycling urges when it comes to DC baby formula box

Seriously, is that really all you've got to worry about?

Get over it, and please, please, please go and Google how to use "too" and "to"

80sMum · 28/02/2017 00:34

Like a PP, I couldn't get past all the erroneous "too"s in the OP's posts either. They're very distracting!

FreeNiki · 28/02/2017 01:30

It was an accident with no malice intended.

You can afford more.

You dont live in a 3rd world country where you literally cannot get more. It was easily obtainable.

I wouldn't have given it a 2nd thought but that's me.

Realjournal123 · 28/02/2017 02:13

Sorry but a bit of a dull thread. At the risk of sounding picky- you should be writing 'to' and not 'too' all of the time. Your 'too' means 'also'.

Believeitornot · 28/02/2017 05:36

I think all those picking up on to vs too are Hmm

atheistmantis · 28/02/2017 06:17

Life is too short to get wound up about this kind of thing, just move on from it.

Winifredgoose · 28/02/2017 06:29

Maybe where you left the formula on the side is where they put stuff for recycling? I def think it is strange not to check though.
My Mil managed to throw my new iPhone in the bin when clearing up after a meal. We didn't realise for days, and it was a total mystery what had happened to it. As i knew I had had it at that meal with mil, in desperation we searched through the bins. It was there with all that meals debris.
She also threw out a sainsbury's bag containing my son's collection of small cars when we were staying with her years ago. I could never understand how she couldn't have felt the weight of ten small toy vehicles and checked the bag.

AntiqueSinger · 28/02/2017 06:29

I shouldn't be gracing this, but really?! How easy your life must be, that this is the biggest concern of your week. If you were on the dole and were literally down to your last tenner, then you'd have my sympathy, but having to brave Sunday trading is what threw you out? Pttf!

skerrywind · 28/02/2017 06:55

highinthesky Men are typically selfish. As long as they get fed the rest can go to hell.

Really?

Maybe the men you know, but that does not describe the men I have had in my life.

OnionKnight · 28/02/2017 07:04

What a load of drama about nothing.

CoteDAzur · 28/02/2017 07:14

Sounds like you need some real problems in your life.

OwlinaTree · 28/02/2017 07:24

Does the grammar really matter? Can you honestly say that your ability to understand what people are talking about is so literal that you can't get their meaning? I really dislike this constant nitpicking over grammar. This is a chat forum not a year 6 English lesson!

This is another very sound reason for living in London. I could easily score formula 24 hours a day.

London is subject to the same Sunday trading hours as everywhere else in England and Wales! If you mean that you'd get it from a local convenience store (which don't have to stick to the same rules as bigger shops) then that's just an advantage of living somewhere not completely rural. They have corner shops and Tesco metros in provincial suburbs too...

skerrywind · 28/02/2017 09:24

It's actually a good case for living in Scotland- we have no archaic Sunday trading hours. Big supermarkets are open 24/7.

Only close on Christmas day.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/02/2017 09:26

I've never looked to see if they sell baby formula at the 24 hour garage that is just about within walking distance of my house in semi rural Yorkshire but if they do, I would expect that they have a limited selection and/or it is considerably more expensive than big supermarkets and I would expect the same for London.

For this reason, I would always have a spare tin or two as I don't want to pay emergency prices if I can help it and I expect that some/many babies/parents are particular about the brand/type of formula used.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/02/2017 09:28

So, somewhat ironically, given the average Londoner's impression of what facilities are available in the rest of the country, you have infinitely more chance of finding a large Tesco open after 5 pm on a Sunday in rural Scotland than you do inside the M25.

skerrywind · 28/02/2017 09:47

Exactly Barbara.

AntiqueSinger · 28/02/2017 09:51

Scotland sounds better all the timeSmile What other last minute emergency items can you easily get last minute on a Sunday afternoon? Condoms.....

PussCatTheGoldfish · 28/02/2017 10:11

Absolutely hesterton!

OP, sorry you've been given a hard time on here!

Your FIL should have checked the box. And then not thrown it out!

Formula is expensive and not everyone can afford a back up tin/box.

Even if the OP had a back up, it would be at her home not her PILs.

Jeez the thread police are out in force in this one!

ovenchips · 28/02/2017 13:26

It's annoying when it happens OP, but to me it falls well within the category of 'everyday happenings which annoy but are not remotely worth dwelling on afterwards.'

Shit happens, it's not worth your headspace.

limitedperiodonly · 28/02/2017 14:57

Just my little joke MargaretCavendish. It's a London thing.

In case you're ever in the area BarbaraofSeville There's a 24-hour Tesco superstore in Earls Court that can service most of your shopping needs within the M25. I've never had a formula emergency but it's a marvel of modern retail.

Anyway, I guess the baby has been fed by now and the OP has calmed down.

melj1213 · 28/02/2017 15:22

Puss The OP was going home so the fact any back up was at home would not have been an issue as the only reason the OP was looking for the box was to pack it up to take home.

If the OP was looking for it because there was a screaming, hungry baby in the other room and they were due a feed right there and then, it would be a different matter as they are being immediately inconvenienced and the baby needs feeding.
