To actually use my debit card?

Barclays Bank has been "down" since 2pm. I discovered this whilst sat with DC in a restaurant trying to pay for the lunch we'd just eaten. No cash on me, even cash machine not working. Cue a very awkward and cringe chat with the manager trying to explain to them that I did have funds to pay (desperately showing them my bank account online to prove it) and ended up with me leaving my address and ID and assuring them I'd come back to pay tomorrow.

Then I had to attempt to leave the multi story carpark with £5 in cash and a £6 ticket cost......

Happy Saturday to all Barclays customers!

My card was declined in a shop and then at the atmosphere. 2nd time in a year. Luckily I had a bit of cash but it's embarrassing and you do worry your account has been compromised. Was relieved to see it in the news. Difficult if you have no cash or other cards.

ATM not atmosphere and double post? Weird day

Barclays are shit! I'm surprised anyone still banks with them tbh.
Building Societies are the way forward I say!

I'm with Barclays. Had £100 worth of stuff in Asda when my card was declined. Red-faced, I explained to the cashier that I definitely had enough money and I don't know why it declined and she said she believed me and they had been having issues all day. Luckily I was able to get money from the cash point to pay for my shopping.

Seriously bloody annoying and embarrassing.

Happened to me in November with nationwide. Utterly embarrassing, couldn't pay for the kids cheese sandwiches in a cafe even though I showed them online balance of significant £ on phone. I now keep £20 in a small pocket in my bag, I never have cash otherwise.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 25/02/2017 22:54

Oh. Well now I know why my card was declined - only one of them though oddly enough.

I have the same card linked to Apple Pay and it was declined twice and then went through.

lilyroses · 25/02/2017 22:57

Been trying since 2ish and then again 6ish in London and nope not working, also when I try and withdraw cash it's saying I have no funds.

snozzlemaid · 25/02/2017 23:12

Mine was declined at Wilko but then worked fine at the ATM in their store. So I was able to get cash to pay thankfully.

PingaPenguin · 25/02/2017 23:26

My card worked to purchase shopping, however whilst I was out I went to the phone shop as I'm due an upgrade but the system wouldn't accept my details due to Barclays being down. Pain in the arse! Was really looking forward to my new phone!

DialsMavis · 25/02/2017 23:30

Mine worked on the tube and bus but wouldnt let me take money out or even transfer to SIL via the app so she could get some for me. I phoned DH and he after a couple of attempts manged to transfer some to SIL for me, but our account is joint... odd

kookiecookie3 · 26/02/2017 08:59

I used it around 6pm last night worked fine. (Manchester)

MirandaWest · 26/02/2017 09:27

Ours worked fine for taking out cash at around 1pm or so, paying by debit card at about 9pm and possibly also at about 5pm (not sure whether DH paid by cash or card for that).
