So now they've dumped the aloe Vera and they are now onto the weight loss coffee. "Welcome to the family " they all chant like Stepford wives. And I've now deleted them all. I can take no more.

Arbonne is the MLM of choice round here. They will swear until they are blue in the face that it is not a pyramid scheme because pyramid schemes are illegal. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

Jamberry doesn't seem to be as bad here. I know one friend doing it and she isn't pushy at all (although I have avoided all parties like the plague). At least with Jamberry the products are fairly unique. I've been tempted to try them but a) don't like patterns on my nails anyway and b) feel I'm compromising my morals to buy from an MLM.

" her bed with quotes like "another hard day at the office"
Oh no, has she had to resort to prostitution?
:o

liquidrevolution · 25/02/2017 09:49

I was feeling down this morning about not having very many friends. Fortunately i have never been approached by someone selling stuff so clearly the few 2friends i have are all sane.

Now I'm much happier!

icelolly99 · 25/02/2017 09:53

The most recent mlm I've seen is some 'amazing' natural remedy that helps your child sleep..... I'm always amazed at the number of people who don't see these types of FB posts for what they are........ Confused

SuperFlyHigh · 25/02/2017 09:58

The thing I hate about the Arbonne etc is all the obvious "group events" they have and then the quotes saying "my life used to be a grind everyday on the 9-5 until I discovered freedom and a better way to make money" (or something like that) - you know it's related to their MLM stuff. Friend of a friend recently posted cocktails with her MLM friends...

What was interesting with one friend was she has ditched Arbonne after 2-3 years and gone onto Nu Skin or something so obviously something didn't work out...

glueandstick · 25/02/2017 10:06

I had a 'friend' try and recruit me to the aloe shite a couple of months after I had a baby. It helped weight loss apparently.

She got both barrels as was clearly calling me fat. Cow.

MyWhatICallNameChange · 25/02/2017 10:08

What's with the coffee stuff? People are going mad on my Facebook selling it and putting up blurry pics of scales after only a few days on it. My weight fluctuates by a few pounds during the week so I don't think it's that reliable. Hmm

I've had a message asking if I want to join in, I ignored it. My friend seems to have abandoned selling make up for coffee. And yesterday someone started on about toothpaste.

I thought my friends were quite sensible but I'm beginning to have my doubts.

TrippyMcTrapFace · 25/02/2017 10:10

YANBU.
Lost a very good friend to MLM. She's not moved over to the next best thing yet from the stuff she flogs, no doubt that will be coming soon enough.

That's the thing about MLM, many are serial MLMers. They go from one to the next, hoping this one will be the 'great opportunity' they've always been promised. The FTC in the States prised figures out of a few MLMs recently and those figures indicated that the failure rate in MLM was around 95%, or put it another way, 95% earned less than a few hundred dollars a year. These figures didn't even take into account the expenses of doing business, so many are worse off that a few hundred dollars a year. There are a lot of casualties out there at the moment from an MLM called Maelle - that has only lasted since 5.10.17; lots of bots left out of pocket. Hate them!

YouOKHun · 25/02/2017 19:13

HappyFlappy. You're welcome! Timeless Vie has some terrible stories. I have a particular problem with the false health claims the 'wellness' MLMs make. I've met cancer patients who have been manipulated by unqualified FL bots to buy 'cancer arresting' Aloe Vera gel. JuicePlus is another one guilty of this kind of thing. These purchasers aren't stupid but they are vulnerable because of their understandable anxiety about their illness - how DARE someone exploit that?!

When anyone tries to make MLMs responsible for what their bots claim they simply play the 'they're independent' card and do very little to stop it. I want a change in legislation to make MLM more accountable for health and income claims made in their name!

Sugarlightly · 25/02/2017 19:16

My friends started on the magnetic jewellery that "helps with physical and mental issues such as pain and depression"Hmm

YouOKHun · 25/02/2017 19:17

Some of you might be interested to keep a eye on this (not sure of the technicalities of MN so it might not copy and/or I might not be allowed to do this!).

I went to a Christmas Market at a local church in mid December; it was wall to wall MLM stands and some horrible anti abortion 'newspapers' in the lobby. Felt a bit sick and left almost immediately. I hate both these things, the latter more than the former obviously. Horrid evening.

RainyDayBear · 25/02/2017 20:05

Ooh I haven't got a 'coffee scam' friend yet, I'm sure it'll be coming soon to a Facebook timeline near me.

A lady I used to work with, who I thought would be above all this nonsense has just started the toothpaste one. Really disappointed in her, we already have the #soblessed etc posts!

The only person I buy off who does anything like that is one who sells the Body Shop stuff, and that's only for products I used anyway (and she gets good deals and it saves me a bus journey).

fuckoffdailysnail · 25/02/2017 20:07

I've got an fbook friend selling jamberry and she's constantly pushing sales
Can't delete her though she's a lovely lady who's been sucked in

JennyOnAPlate · 25/02/2017 20:47

I haven't seen the coffee one...feel like I'm missing out!

I was persuaded to try some jamberry wraps by a friend who has started selling them (yep, mum of 4 who wants a job to fit in etc etc) and actually they're pretty good. They last easily as long as shellac only without fucking up your nails. Shame it's a bloody mlm!

I really want a coffee/aloe shit/juice plus bot to amuse me on Facebook Blush

YouOKHun · 25/02/2017 20:48

fuckoffdailysnail yep, there are two types of Bot, lovely ones who have sadly not listened to their critical and rational voice and have been suckered in to be someone's trodden on downline. All you can do is hope they come round before there's too much financial and/or emotional damage. Then there's the other type, the 'successful' bot who has built a bit of a downline and is happy to tread on newbies and recruit anyone she can. Round here it's the Arbonne bots who are like this. Some of them are really nasty, though the bullying and then isolation (if one doesn't play by the rules) is all done with a smile.

WhisperedLoudest · 25/02/2017 20:53

Also a bit disappointed that I don't know a bot. Seems like it must be endless entertainment Grin

Lovelilies · 25/02/2017 21:29

I've a 'friend' who sells Acti-something.
Goes on about her Acti-cash and how she's got such a perfect life, and also a 20% off everything she buys bollocks Confused
Is this Acti thing a MLM?

ASilhouetteAndNothingMore · 25/02/2017 21:35

Hadn't thought of that angle Shock

Norma27 · 25/02/2017 21:36

I have an old friend who is now forever living no 1. Haven't spoken to her in years but one of her best friends mums is now related to me and warned me to never let her know my married name as she would be pursuing me. They think it is all total bullshit themselves but wouldn't say it to her.

YouOKHun · 25/02/2017 21:48

Lovelilies yes Acti-labs is mlm

kimann · 25/02/2017 21:48

I didn't even know what arbonne of however it's spelt was! Had someone on Instagram that said they were the owners of this (apparently) Confused

Lovelilies · 25/02/2017 21:51

Here's the latest fab thing from Acti-labs.

"Think I have a new acti fave I've started using our concentrated hyaluronic serum on a night just before I apply our collagen night cream my skin feels out of this world xx it holds 1000 times is molecular weight in moisture !!"
