To not buy a fancy baby food steamer/blender?

I've seen several baby vegetable steamer/blenders around the £100 mark.

AIBU to buy a cheap (around £8) microwave vegetable steamer and then blend in my food processor?

I don't cook vegetables for me or hubby for tea so a quick way of cooking one portion for baby is ideal so the microwave ones looks fab.

I used a fork to mash the food.

I didn't buy anything special. Just used my stick blender, sometimes using the small blender attachment, but not often.

No. Microwave and a stick blender. Job done.

I never blended or mashed for DD, but a steamer is a great way to eat more veg.

You can do BLW which is using solid food. No mashing or blending required

I want to blend a little as not totally into full BLW. So really just wanted to check it was ok to cook veg for a baby in a microwave steamer.

You would never ever ever use it, the washing up would drive you nuts. Just give baby finger food or mush it up with a fork. Baby food honestly doesn't need to be pureed just mushy.

I did buy a steamer when DS was weaning as I thought it would be easier and healthier but it ended up being a faff so I just boil/roast/stir fry veg as I do for DH and I and DS had the same.

I have not blended for dd at all, I just mash with a fork a little of what me and dh have so far weaning has been a success!

You don't need a microwave steamer, most veg can be microwaved in a bowl with a table spoon or two of water-works fine for us

Buy a steamer you put over a pan.

Alive no problem with microwave, or you can boil or bake OR get those little pre prepped micro bags and mush them up.

Or use stuff you don't even need to steam when in a rush or on the go. A banana plus fork = baby takeaway.

But you might not able to convince your toddler to eat his vegetables if you and DH don't eat any

I have a steamer and steam all our veg over the potatoes. So much nicer than boiled veg.

I haven't blended for either ds (17 months) or dd (6 months) I just mash a little with a fork, works fine and both mine have weaned great.

You can microwave fresh veg with a teaspoon of water works fine. My dc prefer carrots chopped raw rather than cooked anyway Or you could give raw sticks of peppers & cucumber

Definitely don't need to pay £100, no. I blended foods for the first while rather than BLW and found it difficult to do in the normal food processor as the quantities were so small. A cheaply stick blender was perfect and created less washing up.

Why don't you cook vegetables for you and DH?

Just cook a bit extra veg when you do your own meals. Can be warmed up in the microwave

Mine were prem and couldn't cope with lumps - stick blender did the job just fine.

Yanbu, I won one of these when I was pregnant with ds3. I have used it once to steam some carrot batons (he is 11months) and haven't bothered again.

I am wary of microwaving too much, the scary talk got to me. Boil or steam with one of those metal things you drop into a normal pan, blitz with either a stick blender or a cheap stand up mixer thingy. We have a nutri ninja and use it constantly. I'd say invest in something for the whole family, as those specific to baby type of things can often be just something else with extra £££ added. They're preying on you and counting on all of that love for your baby to make you buy extra crap. I've watched too much MadMen.
