If you have stuff that has to be soaked before being washed do you:

a) fill it with water and leave it on the work surface next to the sink (risking spillage)

b) leave it in the sink in the washing up bowl (meaning you can't fill the kettle)

Please vote now. My marriage is in jeopardy. We need to know who is being unreasonable it's DH

E. soak???

Just wash it twice.

Rachel0Greep · 24/02/2017 19:38

I don't really soak stuff, don't really have to. But if I had to, I would put it in the washing up bowl, and then leave the bowl on the draining board to facilitate kettle filling... Grin

NeedsAsockamnesty · 24/02/2017 19:38

I do not do dishes but if I did it would be

A

CremeEggThief · 24/02/2017 19:39

A, although it's very, very rare I would leave something to soak overnight.

Rachel0Greep · 24/02/2017 19:39

When tea or coffee has been made from kettle, the soaker should then return and wash the items.

Elendon · 24/02/2017 19:40

If you can't be bothered to do things properly, then both of you deserve grief.

Simple.

NapQueen · 24/02/2017 19:40

B. But thats because I leave them til the end and leave them to soak in the used sink water.

However I dont have a washing up bowl. I have a 1 1/2 sink so can still fill a kettle, or a glass of water or whatever.

Mrsmadevans · 24/02/2017 19:41

We put the plug in and fill the sink up not using the bowl so there is room to fill t'kettle up as well lol

The mind is willing but we're exhausted by work/parenting/health problems/financial problems. We're raising three amazingly nice kids though.

Don't put it in the sink or the side, put it on the draining board and then if there is spillage it will still go into the sink AND you have room to fill the kettle. Problem solved.... Next.......... 😋

PlumsGalore · 24/02/2017 19:44

c) Put the dishwasher on with a prewash programme?

Primaryteach87 · 24/02/2017 19:45

A

MapMyMum · 24/02/2017 19:45

If its one or few small things then in the sink, otherwise they go on the side until the sink is free for it to soak for a while without ne needing the sink (either overnight or midweek day time when we're all out)

thebakerwithboobs · 24/02/2017 19:48

A and just put it on a board or absorbent towel or whatever to mop spills.

MeadowHay · 24/02/2017 19:49

We do B if it wouldn't block kettle access to the tap. But if it would then we do A.

user1484394242 · 24/02/2017 19:53

A

Our dishwasher pipe travels along the back of the surface and into the sink so we can't leave anything in in case it blocks the drain and because some things would get ruined by the dishwasher detergent (eg slow cooker pots or ceramic knives).

When DH does it he doesn't check for puddles which end up on the floor or inside the cupboard. Drives me mad! I put things on a tray so water doesn't drip everywhere.

Olinguito · 24/02/2017 19:53

I've hated seeing a sink full of things soaking in manky water since hearing some expert on tv describing it as 'bacterial soup'. I'd leave the offending item soaking on top of the cooker.

Pigeonpost · 24/02/2017 19:56

B. But then we have two sinks in our kitchen... not helpful

Pinotwoman82 · 24/02/2017 19:57

A most definitely!!

fc301 · 24/02/2017 19:59

If he is washing it up then B is fine- don't criticise.
However my DH just pours a bit of water into an oily baking tray and then leaves it at a jaunty angle in the sink FOREVER.

Spookle · 24/02/2017 19:59

B. Jug under tap for kettle. My kettle rarely gets moved to the tap and the jug sits on my drainer. for daily use.

Mum2jenny · 24/02/2017 19:59

No washing up bowl, but wash up what can't go in the dishwasher first, then soak anything that needs soaking in the sink. Deal with it later.

RandomMess · 24/02/2017 20:02

Neither, he needs to finish the washing up before he comes to bed and leave sink spotless!
