Apparently:

'Outlets seeking to gain entry whose requests were denied included the Guardian, the New York Times, Politico, CNN, BuzzFeed, the BBC, the Daily Mail and others. Conservative publications such as Breitbart News, the One America News Network and the Washington Times were allowed into the meeting, as well as TV networks CBS, NBC, Fox and ABC. The Associated Press and Time were invited but boycotted the briefing.'

Press exclusions! He is building a mighty fiefdom, isn't he.

Sorry to say, it's old fashioned fascism.

That's an interesting question, mavis. I think they should be straight out asked 'Why?'. Wink

cozietoesie · 24/02/2017 23:45

I hope that Congress realise who'll be targeted next.

SanFranBear · 24/02/2017 23:52

I'm ashamed to say I visited the Mail online for this.

FFS - this tweet... 30 seconds of applause!!! Nothing about the content or anything - just half a minute of adoration. This is the President of the United States official Twitter account Shock

peaceout · 25/02/2017 00:11

there'll be massive gold statues of him appearing next, citizens will be compelled to have a picture of him at home and offer prayers to it twice daily

Weedsnseeds1 · 25/02/2017 00:13

Surely it would make economic sense to imprison all these dodgy visa holders or " illegal" immigrants. Does anyone remember this, from many moons ago?

I'm not especially patriotic but I actually feel affronted that he's banned the BBC! That's beyond the pail for me. Angry

woman12345 · 25/02/2017 00:18

Weedsnseeds1 shocked silence form QI contestants and me. Sad

Destinysdaughter · 25/02/2017 00:21

Sarah Churchwell, an American academic living in the UK tweeted:

At a US airport I just gave my American passport and was asked, for the first time in my life, if I was born in America. Deeply disturbing.

Weedsnseeds1 · 25/02/2017 00:44

woman13345 exactly. There is no way goods produced at American minimum wage, which I believe is about$8 per hour, will be affordable to other Americans. Some states have a higher minimum wage and people still can't live on it, mainly due to cost of health insurance. Prison labour makes perfect sense to cut costs, modern slavery is alive and well in the USA and mass deportations won't help matters.

That's a very old QI. Have recommended it before but " Deer hunting with Jesus" by Joe Bageant. He's dead now,so essays are not commenting on current SCROTUS, but very enlightening none the less

BagelGoesWalking · 25/02/2017 01:45

Slightly off topic but watched the 13th documentary on Netflix tonight - thought it was fascinating. Highly recommended.

Destinysdaughter · 25/02/2017 02:51

Had this middle of the night thought - how can the BBC now report on Trump impartially when he's declared it to be 'fake news'? Confused

Destinysdaughter · 25/02/2017 03:03

Legendary newsman Dan Rather on FB:

The time for normalizing, dissembling, and explaining away Donald Trump has long since passed. The barring of respected journalistic outlets from the White House briefing is so far beyond the norms and traditions that have governed this republic for generations, that they must be seen as a real and present threat to our democracy. These are the dangers presidents are supposed to protect against, not create.

For all who excused Mr. Trump's rhetoric in the campaign as just talk, the reckoning has come. I hope it isn't true, but I fear Mr. Trump is nearing or perhaps already beyond any hope of redemption. And now the question is will enough pressure be turned to all those who enable his antics with their tacit encouragement. There has been a wall of unbending support from virtually every Republican in Congress, and even some Democrats. Among many people, this will be seen as anything approaching acceptable. And mind you, talk is cheap. No one needs to hear how you don't agree with the President. What are you going to do about it? Do you maintain that an Administration that seeks to subvert the protections of our Constitution is fit to rule unchecked? Or fit to rule at all?

This is an emergency that can no longer be placed solely at the feet of President Trump, or even the Trump Administration. This is a moment of judgement for everyone who willingly remains silent. It is gut check time, for those in a position of power, and for the nation
We need this. Thank you, Dan Rather.

AcrossthePond55 · 25/02/2017 03:17

Right on, Mr Rather!

The thought that our access to unbiased and complete information from which to draw our own conclusions may be getting more and more restricted is just frightening.

Even the Dems in Congress are conspicuously silent. Why are we not hearing mass outrage from them? What is going on? What are we not hearing? What is being kept from us?

TheClaws · 25/02/2017 04:04

Across it is frightening. But when you say, "our access to unbiased and complete information from which to draw our own conclusions" I'd hardly agree the information is unbiased and complete to start with. But, most of us know that, and draw our information from sources we agree with - perhaps with a pinch of salt. Taken as a whole, MSM provides a balance. Restricting MSM - or any media - is an unhealthy move.

Okay, this one is from a right-wing publication, but it is worth a read for its bile-inducing Trump idolatry. I certainly feel like my brain has been given a dunking in something vile. A mere sample:

"At the end of the day, Mr. Trump is still not done. So he turns to Twitter to unleash yet more unfiltered news awesomeness onto the American media landscape.
Welcome to the Age of Raw Journalism. Truly, a new dawn in American media. Drink fully from it, for the flowing bounty has never been like this ever before, and who knows if and when it will ever end.
"It is the confluence of instant information, manic technologies and a political figure who has the strength, fearlessness and stamina to keep it going around the clock.
"So let’s check in with the professionals, the folks who stand to benefit the most from this most generous newsmaker..."
