Would anyone recommend Bratislava?

....for a 3 or 4 day city break? Just got back from Budapest and loved it. Also big fan of Berlin and Amsterdam and am looking for inspiration for the next adventure. Thanks in advance for any tips 😃

Another vote for Sarajevo here.

Bratislava is tiny, definitely not enough for four days unless you do Vienna and a day trip to Bratislava.

Gdansk is nice as is Ljubljana although again it is small but could have a night in Bled.

How about Croatia, Zagreb is nice or Dubrovnik. Pula is nice too with the Roman amphitheater and coliseum.

I also went 20 years ago when there wasn'tmuch to do there. That said, my memory is probably clouded by the fact it rained the entire time..

There were some lovely little towns you could take a day trip to just outside but I forget the names.

A day was enough in Bratislava really. We went to Vienna straight after, 3 nights wasn't long enough there!

Liked it but definitely only 1 or 2 days, its very small.

No Confused and I say that as a Slovakian. Worth it for max 2 days, certainly not more.

Or drive from Bratislava to Prague - about 5 hours. Just don't kill yourself on the D1 motorway. Nightmare drivers.

I was there for 3 days last year. I really liked it, definitely enough to do in that time but wouldn't have stayed longer.
We got the boat to Devin castle and that was good, also the UFO thing and the big memorial gardens.
It's got great public transport but everywhere is close so we just walked.

I go to Bratislava quite a lot (I live in Vienna) and quitr like it. It is a bit rough around the edges but the old town is nice. One day is enough though! I'd recommend Vienna too or a twin trip Bratislava Prague, maybe with Cesky Krumlov on the way. Trains are pretty good in this part of Europe! Come in summer and the weather will be nice.

We stopped off for a night and a day there between Krakow and Budapest, and I would agree that there is less to it than many of the other cities in eastern/central Europe.

We liked the UFO-style look-out over the bridge (there is a cafe inside), and there was a cool cafe in a ruined building on the side of the Danube, but the old city was pretty much like all the other old city centres. I would go back to Prague, Krakow, Budapest, Tallinn or Riga before going back to Bratislava, I think.

Again I wouldn't make a whole trip of Bratislava but would recommend Ljubljana with a couple of days in Bled (a short bus away) or Zagreb. Both brimming with charm, easily walkable but enough to fill a few days.

Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Lots to see & do....roman ampitheatre is stunning...shops, cafes etc. etc.....not expensive. Will be European Capital of Culture in 2019.

Eatingcheeseontoast · 27/04/2017 09:34

Yes to Ljubljana and Zagreb - both really interesting cities - with easily enough to keep you going for a couple of days each.

And the trains are fantastic. We went from Munich to Lake Bled by train and it was a beautiful journey.

Eatingcheeseontoast · 27/04/2017 09:34

Oh and Ljubljana and Zagreb both have great food and are really reasonable.
