Nose Blowing

AIBU to expect an 8 year old to be able to blow their nose? My DD really struggles & suffers when she has a cold.

YANBU, my 3yo is able to do it. At the beginning when she didn't wanted to learn I used to threaten to use the electric nasal aspirator (doesn't hurt, I tried it on me, can barely feel something, but she hates it), that was enough to convince her.

My DS really struggled to learn how - years of sniffing whilst I patiently tried to teach to blow out rather than in. Irritating isn't it! Guess it's just perseverance but yanbu.

Oh just remembered a technique I used to teach to blow out instead of in was to first make her open her mouth and inhale air, then close the mouth and blow the air out.

Is it that she can't blow her nose - as in, doesn't understand how? Or is it that she just cba and would rather sniff incessantly like my DC?

YABU

I could never blow my nose as a child. I had surgery on my nose and sinuses in my mid-20s after which I was able to do it. I physically couldn't do it before the surgery and it was like magic when I could. Are you sure it is that she won't do it rather than actually can't?

I have a teen with Asperger's & dyspraxia. He cannot blow his nose and is freaked out by even trying.
