What do I do with a rabbit?

Not an Sony, but need answers! Lady few houses along,has,a pet rabbit.... or more accurately it seems her son does.

It's been escaping on and off and got out again this morning. It's dug out of the back garden, so she said. I knocked on and she chased it back into her garden.

It must have got pretty much straight back out again, because it popped up on Facebook a couple of hours ago.

It's out again now. We've just pulled it from some dead ground across the road and brought it to her, but she's either gone out or not answering.

It's freezing here, it's been raining all day, there are loads of cars and cats, and foxes. I've brought it into the kitchen, lined an old toy box with towels and put some water in a dish.

What do I do next? I've nothing to feed it and nowhere else to put it if it comes to that. DD has been told to leave it alone and it seems to have gone to sleep for now.

Can you get into their back garden to put it back in its hutch? It doesn't sound like they want it anymore. Maybe when you do speak to them see if they will give it up for adoption to a local rescue.

Can't get it into their garden, our alleyways are gated off and we're opposite so don't have a key. :-(

Partly why I'm asking is because I think the same. I've popped a note through their door to say where circus, but I've just a feeling she won't come. I hope I'm wrong.

No, the rabbit doesn't have facebook. Someone else took a picture and posted it on the local page, trying to find the owner.

Take it to an animal shelter and say it's friendly and possibly someone's pet.

They'll re-home it the it won't bug you again.
Or set it free...

Rabbits need to eat regularly. Do you have any greens at all in the house, Kale, cabbage, spinach, broccoli or similar? Try it with some of them or do you know anyone that might have hay as rabbits should have this available to them at all times.

You could try RSPCA or a local rescue to see if they can help. Poor thing is probably terrified. Where in the country are you? Could see if I can find a local rescue to you?

It probably won't drink water from a bowl, as although some rabbits do, most drink from drip-bottles. Do you have another neighbour who keeps small pets to maybe borrow a drip-bottle, or ask for some advice (and some hay) until your neighbour comes home?

For food, rabbits eat greens - brassicas like cabbage, kale, broccoli . A little bit of either carrot, sweet potato, beetroot, turnip, apple. NOT lettuce or tomato though.

We're in Heywood, Rochdale. We have nothing fresh in the house... Monday is our shopping day, but we could get to a 24 he place if needed.

I have a water bottle from our old hamsters cage in the attic, I could try that in a pinch. Would it work?

The owner might well come and get it, but I'm worst case planning. No other rabbits/guinea pigs locally - lots of cats!!!

Unlikely that you should be near to me, but if you are, I actually have a spare hutch and everything a rabbit could wish for (KT15 postcode) Grin

Ah - crossed post, you're too far away. Yes, your hamster's bottle would do at a pinch, as long as you could fix it up properly. A bit on the small side I imagine, so you'll have to top it up quite regularly.

Rabbits love bread, potato, cake, pretty much anything! Especailly maltersers....
I have had rabbits for years, and they have all lived to at least 10 years, so you can feed them bread, cake etc....
Poor bunny.

It's an adorable bunny - we're just not set up for one and I don't want it coming to harm because of that. I know nothing about them - I'm only guessing it's better in here than outside!

Do you have a lawn? Can you go out and pull up a couple of handfuls of grass? Hay is the mainstay of their diet, don't give it too much bread, it's not good for them.

I've a friend with 2 huge rabbits that she never lets out of their hutch...I had to look after them when she went on holiday.the poo and sawdust was half way up the hutch, they just top it up with sawdust rather than clean it out
