To think £26 is too much too take my son to the cinema!!! Odeon discount needed!

Feeling like swearing loudly, so posting here instead.

Have promised to take DS2 to see Lego Batman today (as his big brother went with a friend earlier in the week), but our local Odeon is charging £14.50 for me and £10.25 for him. It's too much!!! I don't even want to see the bloody film!!! There's a Cineworld within driving distance but it's only slightly cheaper and 10 times less pleasant (we can walk to the Odeon, along the river, which is the only bit of the trip I'm looking forward to).

I was banking on using my Tesco vouchers for a discount, but have logged in to find that my credit is zero - not because it really is zero, but because their dumb voucher system means all the "change" from previous vouchers (including the ones I used for DS1 and his friend) won't be re-credited until our next statement.

Does anyone know of any Odeon offers out there to help me out of this??? I've googled, but so far only finding out-of-date offers and adverts.

I know what you mean. Our Vue is quite expensive. I have used £2.50 or lloyds tokens before, but if you don't have those .... £30.71 seems a lot.

And I like all films. But I actually thought the new batman was REALLY poor. Sad

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 19/02/2017 13:42

That is outrageous!

I can get odeon tickets from work for a fiver so I do that, otherwise it's a tenner for adults and about £8 for kids. I thought that was a pure rip off.

FarAwayHills · 19/02/2017 13:42

If you happen subscribe to The Times online their times plus members get 2 for 1 Odeon tickets at weekends. Otherwise Odeon kids films are usually about £2.50 each but it's usually a film that's been out a while. I agree though it's a rip off.

ImNotOkayyy · 19/02/2017 14:39

If anyone has a spare voucher code could I please nick it? I want to take the kids to see lego batman but it's just too much full price x TIA

WhatsGoingOnEh · 19/02/2017 14:41

Those prices sound to me like you're paying for the 3D version, and buying the 3D glasses too. Is that right? That's how much it'd cost me to take DS1 as I was looking into it earlier this week. :)

If so, see the 2D one -- it's about 1/2 the price.

GangstaRat · 19/02/2017 14:47

Gosh, some cinemas are cheap! My local Odeon is £15 for an adult and my local indie cinema is £15 evening and £10 in the daytime.

GangstaRat · 19/02/2017 14:49

I can see films free via the Curzon Cinemas Club but only in the morning.

£10-15 is pretty standard in London.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 19/02/2017 15:03

£26 for two is shocking OP. We paid £33 for four this week at our local odeon, for the same film. We are not in London though.
Our local independent is more expensive but much nicer, but sadly wasn't showing it when it suited us ;).

Jaytee38 · 19/02/2017 15:09

There are other ways to see it if your prepared to stay home to watch it. Yes not the cinema experience but on my income it's the only way to see current films.

bloodyteenagers · 19/02/2017 15:39

Op see if you are eligible to join www.cssc.co.uk
Membership is less than £4 a month. One of the many perks is cheaper cinema tickets. I get vue ones for less than £6 for London - out of London like everything else is cheaper. They also do Odeon think for about the same price. Won't help you with this trip but will help for future ones. I buy a couple a tickets a month and they have around 6 or 7 months to be used in.

Outbackshack · 19/02/2017 15:41

Odeon will be showing Lego barman at the kids club next month for only £2.50 a ticket. Available at most Odeon so hopefully at one near you. I agree crazy money though. We only go kids club now and bring our own snacks obviously!

sweeterlife · 19/02/2017 17:29

Those prices sound to me like you're paying for the 3D version, and buying the 3D glasses too. Is that right?

Nope - it was 2D. 3D would have been even more.

Thanks for the advice everyone (especially the person with the Tesco Clubcard tip - that's good to know even if too late for this time).

We went to Odeon Kingston in the end, which worked out as £4 cheaper - not much better but at least we got a longer walk out of it. The movie was slightly better than I expected, but I had to put up with my chair being kicked all the way through by the kids in the row behind.

Looking forward to when DS2 is old enough to go to the cinema with his mates too, so I don't have to!

Our local Curzon is £14 a ticket.
But I rarely go, and I can have a glass of wine.

Rememberallball · 09/11/2017 07:40

We live in same area as OP and that is the average price for every cinema in the area. Compare that to North Cyprus where we are at the moment - went to see Thor 3 with DH at the weekend in English with subtitles and 3D. 2 adult tickets cost 42TL (about £8:40!!) seats were really comfortable and well set out with drink holders which actually held the cups rather than tipping them. And we could have had a decent meal in the foyer restaurant from around £4 each!! Only odd thing was the intermission they added by simply stopping the film part way through and putting the lights on!!

londonrach · 09/11/2017 07:50

Sparechange..orange does exist anymore...its ee. I foundthat out when i went to top up my orange phone to and found top up didnt work anymore. Left orange ee or whatever it was at that point.

Lallypopstick · 09/11/2017 07:51

OP probably doesn’t care any more. This is an old thread.

RedSkyAtNight · 09/11/2017 07:52

This is one reason why I never go to the cinema.
If you think it's too much money, your child will not spontaneously combust if he has to wait until it's released to DVD/Netflix/whatever.

Avelosa · 16/06/2021 12:49

@sofiajohna what on earth has that got to do with a thread from 2017 about cinema tickets
