To think £26 is too much too take my son to the cinema!!! Odeon discount needed!

Feeling like swearing loudly, so posting here instead.

Have promised to take DS2 to see Lego Batman today (as his big brother went with a friend earlier in the week), but our local Odeon is charging £14.50 for me and £10.25 for him. It's too much!!! I don't even want to see the bloody film!!! There's a Cineworld within driving distance but it's only slightly cheaper and 10 times less pleasant (we can walk to the Odeon, along the river, which is the only bit of the trip I'm looking forward to).

I was banking on using my Tesco vouchers for a discount, but have logged in to find that my credit is zero - not because it really is zero, but because their dumb voucher system means all the "change" from previous vouchers (including the ones I used for DS1 and his friend) won't be re-credited until our next statement.

Does anyone know of any Odeon offers out there to help me out of this??? I've googled, but so far only finding out-of-date offers and adverts.

OP posts:

Would it be any cheaper if you joined the Odeon Families scheme?

wobblywindows · 19/02/2017 11:08

Odeon are doing Bargain Mondays at a few cinemas, tickets from £4.50 means 1+ 1 can get in at Cardiff for under tenner. Unfortunately, none near Richmond.

cardibach · 19/02/2017 11:11

Bloody hell id want live actors not a film for that sort of money! Cinema has got completely ridiculous.

Clayhead · 19/02/2017 11:11

Wow, we paid £3.50 a ticket at our local independent last weekend, am shocked at some of the prices!

TalkingofMichaelAngel0 · 19/02/2017 11:12

We only go to the cinema when it is kids am at £2.50 each! Otherwise I cry. I dont want to soend £40 to see Top Cat ever again!

When they ask about a film i say it isnt out yet on kids am. Theyre young enough (7 and 5) to be happy with that.

newcareerpath · 19/02/2017 11:15

Phone Tesco clubcard up. If you have 'change' from previous vouchers, though you can't use them until the next statement online if you phone them up and order over the phone then you can use them now.

BeMorePanda · 19/02/2017 11:16

I hear you! If we are going to the cinema I make damn sure it will be something I at least might enjoy. They can wait until My Little Pony etc comes out on DVD/Netflix.

PovertyPain · 19/02/2017 11:27

Thanks for that link Tinkle, I keep meaning to get that for my youngest. You've just reminded me. 💐

BikeRunSki · 19/02/2017 11:38

Astonished you're more up to date than me then! wr used to go for £5 Tuesdays. We like the paramount though because of free parking and cheap popcorn and a cup of tea in the interval

RusticMEGan · 19/02/2017 11:44

Im up North and Odeon and Vue is around £10 per adult, more if it's at peak times. There is a independant cinema about 30 mins away that charges £4 and on a Monday Vue charged £3.99. Meerkat thing does 241 on a Tuesday and Wednesday.

Brokenbiscuit · 19/02/2017 11:47

Wow. Our local odeon charges £4 each for adults and children! Cineworld charges £6 and £5!

SparkleTwinkleGoldGlitter · 19/02/2017 11:49

I'm in the south east ( Kent ) and I've just looked up the Odeon cinema here and it's £10.95 per adult and £7.95 child ( up to age 12 ) £9.50 for ages 13-17. Shock blimey it is expensive

Me and dh are lucky here we have a small independent one that shows most of the lastest films ( we even saw transporting and fifty shades darker there) and they charge £3.50 a seat on weekdays and £4.50 weekends for adults and they have a reasonably priced coffee, popcorn

seesensepeople · 19/02/2017 11:51

Might be too late for OP but for any others - you can join Kids Pass for £1. They have lots of discounts, including cinema discounts of up to 40%. It's all online so you can organise it almost instantly www.kidspass.co.uk/

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 19/02/2017 11:52

HOW have I never heard of the Civil Service Social Club before?! It looks AMAZING! And so much is included!

ForalltheSaints · 19/02/2017 11:55

Look and see if there is another cinema, or a cheap day.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 19/02/2017 12:00

No use for today but I would suggest doing on tues/weds and use meerkat movies.

I tend to either wait for kids cinema when it's £2.50 each. Or I have a rewards account with natwest. I get around 3% back for every direct debit, I can then exchange £5 for a cineworld ticket. In total I get about £14 per month back so I can take them each set of holidays and I occasionally go with friends. It feels like a free day out so even though cineworld is a pain to get to for us its worth it :)

MyWhatICallNameChange · 19/02/2017 12:09

I always told mine they'd have to wait till the film was on movies for juniors so I'd only have to pay £1.50 (or whatever it is these days) each. Not helpful if you've promised him for today though - how would he react if you told him to wait?

Mine have grown out of movies for juniors now so have to wait for the DVD.

BrieAndChilli · 19/02/2017 12:14

Get the kidspass for £1 at the moment. Just got 1 adult ticket and 1 kids ticket for £11ish. Was 40% off.

BarbaraofSeville · 19/02/2017 13:00

Anyone who uses Vue or Cineworld - look on eBay for tickets. People get them free with Lloyds Bank accounts and sell them for £35-40 for 6. You might be able to get smaller amounts and also the seller might email you the vouchers if you are in a rush and you can use these to book online.

BastardBloodAndSand · 19/02/2017 13:19

Is there a vue nearby ?? Ours charges a fiver now.......it's paid off too, the place has gone from being empty to packed out most nights.

WeAllHaveWings · 19/02/2017 13:20

We have a company discount for odeon so get tickets for £4 (child) or £5.80 adult. We also buy popcorn/sweets/drinks in the supermarket (checked and odeon say this is ok).

domesticgoddesshaha · 19/02/2017 13:22

People with the meekat movie thing, can you use those at any cinema?

Funnyonion17 · 19/02/2017 13:23

That's expensive! Our odeon is £6.25 with 3D glasses. I pre booked and we are taking our own sweets. Needs must as we have a few days out planned

dementedpixie · 19/02/2017 13:26

Not all Vue cinemas charge £5 as my local one still has normal prices: £9.49 adult and £7.29 child. We went to see it yesterday - weren't that impressed tbh

MiladyThesaurus · 19/02/2017 13:27

There are two vues near me, one is much cheaper than the other. So obviously we go to the really cheap one.
