Julian Lewis seems to make a reasonable point - right up until you then hit trump as being the person he thinks can be persuaded of any argument or policy desired by the UK parliament via a state visit.

PlectrumElectrum · 20/02/2017 17:07

Oh this should be good

PlectrumElectrum · 20/02/2017 17:09

Salmond is talking about fawning subservience Grin

Lweji · 20/02/2017 17:09

Thanks SanFran, it did look rather short. :)

BTW, Paul Nuttall should go on a training course to the White House. He cried when he apologised for his lies. Never apologise. Never ever cry. Just present it as an alternative fact.

PlectrumElectrum · 20/02/2017 17:11

And here it comes - salmond own toadying to trump.

PlectrumElectrum · 20/02/2017 17:12

SNP bingo card from salmond - how much can he squeeze into his 5 mins?

AcrossthePond55 · 20/02/2017 17:12

Is it OK to have a wee bit of a crush on Alex Salmond?

originalbiglymavis · 20/02/2017 17:14

Yes, yes it is. He is a loathesome toad.

PlectrumElectrum · 20/02/2017 17:15

He's in his element - his knowledge & experience re trump is actually very 'on point'.

cozietoesie · 20/02/2017 17:16

The 'bromance', plectrum?

PlectrumElectrum · 20/02/2017 17:16

Putin getting mentioned now.

AGnu · 20/02/2017 17:18

I'm quite liking James Cartlidge. He wears that suit well. What he's saying is an interesting point too...

AcrossthePond55 · 20/02/2017 17:19

I think Cartlidge is missing the point that a State Visit to someone like Trump or Putin will be taken by them as tacit approval of their conduct. It won't 'influence them' as far as foreign policy goes.

pinboard · 20/02/2017 17:19

AcrossthePond
not really no, he is known in Scotland to be a toad of the highest order.
corrupt, misogynistic, and bigoted (both religious and racial).
he'd sell his Granny for a bit of airtime.
but, you go for it, girl... Grin I find Boris fanciable, to my utter shame, so there is no sense in it, sadly Blush

PlectrumElectrum · 20/02/2017 17:21

Yup cosie - salmond was so far in his pocket when it looked like ££££ would come to Scotland he was exactly the same as May has been with her indecent haste to visit him & invite him for a state visit. He's loathsome but has the knowledge and experience of him to have something of substance to say on this issue.

AcrossthePond55 · 20/02/2017 17:21

Ha! pinboard. I guess it's like meeting a guy in a bar, you just really don't know about them based on that one meeting.

He was speaking a lot of sense abut Trump.

PlectrumElectrum · 20/02/2017 17:22

Sorry cozie

PlectrumElectrum · 20/02/2017 17:25

Stephen Doughty is good too.

PlectrumElectrum · 20/02/2017 17:26

Anyone reading my posts will easily figure out my political leanings Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 20/02/2017 17:28

It seems to me that the antipathy towards Trump is absolutely NOT divided along party lines in this debate. Am I correct?

AcrossthePond55 · 20/02/2017 17:29

Are there protests going on outside visible to where this meeting is being held?

AndHoldTheBun · 20/02/2017 17:31

Wow pinboard! Don't hold back in your praise of Alex Salmond Shock

I assume you are no fan of the SNP (fair enough), but Salmond is a fine politician and he had Trump's card well and truly marked before the election.

I might have a wee crush on him myself mind! Blush

AcrossthePond55 · 20/02/2017 17:32

Not sure if this has been posted:

Obama's first visit to UK April 2009 (not a state visit)
Obama's State Visit to UK May 2011

cozietoesie · 20/02/2017 17:35

What I guess we're talking about is saying 'No' to a 3 year old with a loaded gun who is waving it around in the sitting room in front of a group of perplexed and fearful adults - do you take that chance?

PlectrumElectrum · 20/02/2017 17:36

The antipathy isn't partisan but the stance taken on whether the visit should be full state or not is. The Tories don't want to acknowledge May's rookie mistake in offering a full state visit with 'indecent haste' as part of her brexit posturing and whether is is appropriate for trump as opposed to a non-state visit. She's the one who looks an eejit if the visit is downgraded so even though all acknowledged (mostly) his odious personal traits & policy, they won't want to rescind the invite.
