Melania didn't cite her reference though, so it could be said that she plagiarised Jesus. Since plagiarism is a fancy word for stealing, it could be argued that Melania stole from God.... Bet the Trump supporters wouldn't be keen on someone stealing from God...

The camera angles were funny, just tracking the walk from the plane and back, and the 'supporters' behind. Any clues on numbers? Not shots from behind the crowd. (camera shots)

woman12345 · 19/02/2017 10:10

No shots from behind the crowd, so we could gauge numbers. It must cost a lot, would be why he nicked AF1.

TeenageCentaurMortificado · 19/02/2017 10:16

Placemarking as I keep losing the Freds.

I have nothing inciteful or intelligent to add. I just genuinely cannot believe any of this is actually happening. We put up with some shite in U.K. Politics but my god there's no way this would have continued for a month over here..??

I blame Cambridge Analytica
scout.ai/story/the-rise-of-the-weaponized-ai-propaganda-machine

'By leveraging automated emotional manipulation alongside swarms of bots, Facebook dark posts, A/B testing, and fake news networks, a company called Cambridge Analytica has activated an invisible machine that preys on the personalities of individual voters to create large shifts in public opinion. Many of these technologies have been used individually to some effect before, but together they make up a nearly impenetrable voter manipulation machine that is quickly becoming the new deciding factor in elections around the world'

EP said he didn't know what was coming (re the Lord's Prayer being read) and you automatically believed him? Smile

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 19/02/2017 10:22

What was SNL's target last night? Hard to know what could be parodied in a week of sensational satire.

woman12345 · 19/02/2017 10:25

cozietoesie but he really really tells the truth because of all the fake media mess Grin

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 19/02/2017 10:26

You know how Donald wibbled on about how he couldn't say whether we were going into Mosul this week, next week etc 'cause it was secret in his press conference on Thursday? Do you think he actually spilled the beans by mentioning Mosul? Can't help noticing the Guardian's main headline just now is about an Iraqi assault on Mosul today: www.theguardian.com/world/2017/feb/19/torture-videos-cast-shadow-over-iraqi-forces-west-mosul-offensive

woman12345 · 19/02/2017 10:31

Anyone seen 'The men who stared at goats'? Or have heard of Wavey Gravey and the old school resistance last time there was a duplicitous cracker in power? Just a thought Grin

peaceout · 19/02/2017 10:34

I did wonder about Melania speaking in broken English with him always going on about keeping immigrants out?

And him claiming he didn't know she was going to say it? Surely no one believed that, or maybe it wasn't meant to be taken literally?

He reminds me so much of a religious evangelist, its all about stirring people emotionally, if they love you they will see everything through a golden haze and always give you the benefit of the doubt

If they fall out of love they may turn and tear you to pieces

nicenewdusters · 19/02/2017 10:34

I wondered that too Mort. It seemed odd that he suddenly mentioned a particular place, especially one that he probably has very little understanding of. I imagine he has a very tenuous grasp of detail, and Mosul in his mind was a bigly dangerous place that he'd be shooting up fairly soon, but one little brain cell was calling out "Secret, it's a secret!"

It's probably why he hates lawyers and judges. They often have an amazing eye for detail, tremendous ability to see the relevant/important parts of an argument. How must he feel up against intellects like that?

woman12345 · 19/02/2017 10:36

illegitimateMortificadospawn that worried me too ( didn't spot the Mosul bit) but did notice the 'very bad' about Russia, followed by Putin's slap down, which could have been choreographed. Confused

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 19/02/2017 10:39

It must be really testing the military and secret service. They have to brief him on sensitive intelligence and troop movements, particularly if presidential sign-off is required, but he seems totally unfiltered and incapable of discretion. It's all a bit Basil Fawlty "don't mention the war!"

MoonriseKingdom · 19/02/2017 10:40

Another well oiled machine of a placemark. I always oil my place marks with that clean, clean oil.

nicenewdusters · 19/02/2017 10:44

Peaceout Your post reminded me of when I saw the evangelist Billy Graham in London many years ago. A friend had tickets, and I went along out of curiosity. At the time I was an agnostic. He was an amazing speaker, full of charisma and power. At the end he asked people to come forward. I can't remember the wording, something like if you feel God's love and want to come and share in it. I remember feeling a powerful urge to stand up and go into the arena. It was horrible, really unnerving.

peaceout · 19/02/2017 10:46

I suspect his method for dealing with any intellectuals is to promote distrust amongst his followers, its not hard to do, they are a group which already prefers to see the world in simple terms

Destinysdaughter · 19/02/2017 10:46

Batshit crazy

TheClaws · 19/02/2017 10:49

About the placards at the rally: they had a mass-made, handed-out-at-the-door feel to them. You're Hispanic? Here, have this "Hispanics for Trump" sign. Black? We have one for you. Woman-type person? Have this pink one! Make sure you wave 'em! Look crazy!

peaceout · 19/02/2017 10:52

I went to see Billy Graham too Nicenew!Grin
My friend got up, I didn't
But yeah, the urge to just surrender and be part of a movement is a powerful thing, Trump fits into the niche of benevolent patriarch for many people.
He tells it like it is, none of that high falutin' fancy talk, he's the daddy now and he's gonna fight for you

What's not to like?

nicenewdusters · 19/02/2017 11:03

Wow peace I've never known anybody else who went to see him. It's easy to see why surrendering to a power greater than yourself (allegedly) is so seductive. It's like handing the keys to your life over. Trump is promising a great job, a safe country, no drugs, cheap healthcare, and to kick the arse of the nasty lying press. As you say, what's not to like !!

squishysquirmy · 19/02/2017 11:04

Destinysdaughter, that site is not for real, surely??? Shock

nicenewdusters · 19/02/2017 11:05

I'm genuinely too scared to click onto it Confused .

Destinysdaughter · 19/02/2017 11:06

Apparently it is. I posted another link about the guy who runs it. Scary guy!

Roussette · 19/02/2017 11:12

Taken off of my FB feed this morning. Love it. (apologies to all if you've seen it)
I can't believe I'm saying this, but it looks like Trump is actually making America great again. Just look at the progress made since the election:

  1. Unprecedented levels of ongoing civic engagement.
  2. Millions of Americans now know who their state and federal representatives are without having to google.
  3. Millions of Americans are exercising more. They're holding signs and marching every week.
  4. Alec Baldwin is great again. Everyone's forgotten he's kind of a jerk.
  5. The Postal Service is enjoying the influx cash due to stamps purchased by millions of people for letter and postcard campaigns.
  6. Likewise, the pharmaceutical industry is enjoying record growth in sales of anti-depressants.
  7. Millions of Americans now know how to call their elected officials and know exactly what to say to be effective.
  8. Footage of town hall meetings is now entertaining.
  9. Tens of millions of people are now correctly spelling words like emoluments, narcissist, fascist, misogynist, holocaust and cognitive dissonance.
10. Everyone knows more about the rise of Hitler than they did last year. 11. Everyone knows more about legislation, branches of power and how checks and balances work. 12. Marginalized groups are experiencing a surge in white allies. 13. White people in record numbers have just learned that racism is not dead. (See #6) 14. White people in record numbers also finally understand that Obamacare IS the Affordable Care Act. 15. Stephen Colbert's "Late Night" finally gained the elusive #1 spot in late night talk shows, and Seth Meyers is finding his footing as today's Jon Stewart. 16. "Mike Pence" has donated millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood since Nov. 9th. 17. Melissa FREAKING McCarthy. 18. Travel ban protesters put $24 million into ACLU coffers in just 48 hours, enabling them to hire 200 more attorneys. Lawyers are now heroes. 19. As people seek veracity in their news sources, respected news outlets are happily reporting a substantial increase in subscriptions, a boon to a struggling industry vital to our democracy. 20. Live streaming court cases and congressional sessions are now as popular as the Kardashians. 21. Massive cleanup of facebook friend lists. 22. People are reading classic literature again. Sales of George Orwell's "1984" increased by 10,000% after the inauguration. (Yes, that is true. 10,000%. 9th grade Lit teachers all over the country are now rock stars.) 23. More than ever before, Americans are aware that education is important. Like, super important. 24. Now, more than anytime in history, everyone believes that anyone can be President. Seriously, anyone.
