...even though I am pretty sure that this complaint will be ignored and nothing will actually happen... Hmm

NC for this just in case. God, I’m such a wimp. Really hope no-one recognises this.

Lived here a few years. Neighbours are all nice enough. Take in each other’s parcels, exchange Christmas cards, etc... all very pleasant. Until today. Got home and DH gets into a bit of boring football talk general chit chat with the bloke opposite us while I rush inside to escape change the baby.

After I'd gone, the bloke next door to the one opposite us pops out to join their crap conversation chatter and tells them "just so you know, I've put in a complaint to the council about people parking outside our houses"

DH and bloke opposite were a bit Confused so he goes on to add that it's "getting ridiculous" that "so many visitors" are parking on the road instead of on driveways. Reckons he's struggling to get on his.

FWIW the houses on our street are all on a slope. Our driveway and the drives on our side slope down towards the houses, the ones opposite slope up towards their houses. This tends to mean that all the people on our side drive in and reverse out and on the opposite side they reverse in and drive out forwards. This is never/had never been a problem as far as I'm aware. It's just the way it's always been.

Anyway, he likes to reverse on. Fine. But apparently half a road and a pavement isn't enough room. So he's complained.

Houses are 1970s with plenty of room - double driveways and garages and a decent sized road/pavement. He has plenty of room. Not near enough to shops/schools to park unless you're visiting one of the houses, so there's only ever the odd one or two cars parked, completely legally, on the road. For example, there are ZERO cars parked on the road RIGHT NOW. That’s how quiet it is.

Can't work out if he was having a dig at DH and bloke opposite as he doesn’t think we should be ‘allowing’ visitors to park on the road (most of ours park on our drive as if we squeeze forward there's just about room for 4 cars, but if there’s not enough room or they can’t be arsed they of course park on the fucking road).

OR he is possibly being a bit of a twat about the house next door to us (opposite his house). The people who live there all have learning disabilities (think it's called a halfway house, but sorry if that's not the right word). Anyway there are carers there 24/7 and although there is a double driveway I think when they have different shift patterns and the carers are coming and go at different times, etc it's often easier for one them to park on the road. And it is usually just one of them. One car. Which is absolutely fine. Never had a problem with it myself as THERE IS FUCKING LOADS OF ROOM!!! Not sure if/why he would have a problem with them and why they might be any worse than guests of ours who park there? Because they do it more often maybe? One of them has a 4x4 but even then there's plenty of room for everyone. Even if it was a tight squeeze, you can't just ban big cars can you?

If it's relevant, this neighbour has a low wall round his front lawn that has clearly been damaged by a vehicle. Possibly someone reversing into it. There is no way if that was the cause of the damage, that it was the fault of a parked car on the road opposite and not the driver of the car! Grin

Surely his complaint to the council will be ignored? Isn’t the alternative to road parking no parking/double yellow lines? Then anyone who visits will have to park further away and walk?!

AIBU to be a little bit more excited about this than I should be? I've been interrogating DH all evening. He thinks I'm over-interested and has stopped answering my questions. WTF does this bloke think the council are going to do??

I bloody love Mumsnet for parking threads- so BRILLIANT! Surely they will be legendary one day. And thanks for the drawing, OP!

DesolateWaist · 18/02/2017 23:49

The only thread to come near this for diagrams is the one where the neighbours bought their own disabled parking only signs. Oooh they were wonderful diagrams.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 18/02/2017 23:57

Am reporting your OP to MNHQ to insist that you are appointed the Mumsnet Parking Thread Executor of Visuals.

With immediate effect.

Sorry, what was your problem? Grin

DJKKSlider · 19/02/2017 00:01

In honour of the wonderful diagram, complete with fonts, damaged walls, bisected cars etc. I think, this song, is fitting...

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 19/02/2017 00:09

You namechanged? You produce the best parking incident/situation diagram ever, but you namechanged?

That's like writing a best selling novel under a pseudonym! D'you not want people to know your creative talents?

I hope to god the council don't ignore his complaint totally. Sadly I think if it's carers parking they are likely to be asked to be more considerate and they'll be no more need for diagrams Sad

fc301 · 19/02/2017 00:22

The dickhead CLEARLY clouted his own front wall (no crime - we've all done it) and is now attempting to blame someone else.

BriantheWife · 19/02/2017 00:47

I think you should do the diagrams for all parking threads from now on.

nothruroad · 19/02/2017 00:49

This thread and diagram make me ridiculously happy. Grin

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 19/02/2017 07:04

Just checking the finer detail.
Do the Uphillers opposite you also have walls?

SallyGinnamon · 19/02/2017 07:46

Great diagram.

Answer to neighbour - anyone can park where they want on a public road without reference to him. So tough titties.

FucketyFuckFuckers · 19/02/2017 07:56

Re "jaunty" angle (excellent word!) We've mulled over for a while. We are in disagreement. The way the drive is, they could park both cars straight.

I think he parks his at an angle because if his car was straight, his naice paving where his lawn used to be would be totally pointless. It's like he's determined to use it.

DH reckons he's got delusions of grandeur about the size of his penis vehicle and that he doesn't think it would fit next to the other one if they were straight, so goes jaunty. But you'd think if he thought it was that big, he'd have taken extra care when reversing into the low wall?!!

FucketyFuckFuckers · 19/02/2017 07:58

And yes breakfast the houses opposite all have tiny pointless low walls. No-one on our side has walls.

JanuaryMoods · 19/02/2017 08:06

An exemplary diagram, OP.

I doubt the council will do anything other than laugh in his face.

Eastpoint · 19/02/2017 08:12

Diagram is beautiful. I hope you use your art skills in the rest of your life.

SootSprite · 19/02/2017 08:12

Perhaps we could have a MN road trip and all go park in the street? Just to piss him off?

Loving the diagram too Blush

Fadingmemory · 19/02/2017 08:14

Complainant should a) see your diagram, and b) remove a section of his wall. What a twit!

Poppypooch · 19/02/2017 08:15

Oh I think the Tate art gallery would be very interested in your diagram, the attention to detail is like nothing I have ever seen on a parking thread good work op 🏆🎖🥇🥇
I have nothing useful to add to help with your neighbours made up parking issues Grin

WaitrosePigeon · 19/02/2017 08:18

You deserve recognition, possibly by the Queen for that diagram.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 19/02/2017 08:22

I was so impressed at OP diagram that I tried to create one to describe my historical parking dispute.
Sadly my attempt at using Paint on PC was not worthy of Mumsnet.
My little coloured blocks did not look like cars and houses, more like the result of a two year old playing with Lego

FucketyFuckFuckers · 19/02/2017 08:36

That's what I thought too Breakfast but then I added some words and it all just came together Grin

OP posts:
WineAndTiramisu · 19/02/2017 09:18

Wonderful diagram!
Nothing to add I'm afraid, except council won't be interested if legally parked

HappyFlappy · 19/02/2017 10:10

You namechanged? You produce the best parking incident/situation diagram ever, but you namechanged?

OP knows her adoring fans will mob her in the street if they are aware of her identity. It's to protect her family life and let her get to Oddbins Tesco without being stopped by people rushing to kiss the hem of her garment.

bilbodog · 19/02/2017 11:14

Just had to come on to add my total respect for the diagram - and to mark my place!!

enterthedragon · 19/02/2017 11:41

Was his complaint about parking in the road generally or more specifically having a dig about next doors carers parking outside of your house and trying to get your dh to agree that it's a problem?
If it's the former then he is being unreasonable to think that the council will do anything about it, if it's the latter then he is just being unreasonable.

Btw A* for the diagram

LessThanJacob · 19/02/2017 13:14

OP your diagram is a thing of beauty!

Your neighbour is crackers if he thinks the council will give two shits about his parking complaint.
