...even though I am pretty sure that this complaint will be ignored and nothing will actually happen... Hmm

NC for this just in case. God, I’m such a wimp. Really hope no-one recognises this.

Lived here a few years. Neighbours are all nice enough. Take in each other’s parcels, exchange Christmas cards, etc... all very pleasant. Until today. Got home and DH gets into a bit of boring football talk general chit chat with the bloke opposite us while I rush inside to escape change the baby.

After I'd gone, the bloke next door to the one opposite us pops out to join their crap conversation chatter and tells them "just so you know, I've put in a complaint to the council about people parking outside our houses"

DH and bloke opposite were a bit Confused so he goes on to add that it's "getting ridiculous" that "so many visitors" are parking on the road instead of on driveways. Reckons he's struggling to get on his.

FWIW the houses on our street are all on a slope. Our driveway and the drives on our side slope down towards the houses, the ones opposite slope up towards their houses. This tends to mean that all the people on our side drive in and reverse out and on the opposite side they reverse in and drive out forwards. This is never/had never been a problem as far as I'm aware. It's just the way it's always been.

Anyway, he likes to reverse on. Fine. But apparently half a road and a pavement isn't enough room. So he's complained.

Houses are 1970s with plenty of room - double driveways and garages and a decent sized road/pavement. He has plenty of room. Not near enough to shops/schools to park unless you're visiting one of the houses, so there's only ever the odd one or two cars parked, completely legally, on the road. For example, there are ZERO cars parked on the road RIGHT NOW. That’s how quiet it is.

Can't work out if he was having a dig at DH and bloke opposite as he doesn’t think we should be ‘allowing’ visitors to park on the road (most of ours park on our drive as if we squeeze forward there's just about room for 4 cars, but if there’s not enough room or they can’t be arsed they of course park on the fucking road).

OR he is possibly being a bit of a twat about the house next door to us (opposite his house). The people who live there all have learning disabilities (think it's called a halfway house, but sorry if that's not the right word). Anyway there are carers there 24/7 and although there is a double driveway I think when they have different shift patterns and the carers are coming and go at different times, etc it's often easier for one them to park on the road. And it is usually just one of them. One car. Which is absolutely fine. Never had a problem with it myself as THERE IS FUCKING LOADS OF ROOM!!! Not sure if/why he would have a problem with them and why they might be any worse than guests of ours who park there? Because they do it more often maybe? One of them has a 4x4 but even then there's plenty of room for everyone. Even if it was a tight squeeze, you can't just ban big cars can you?

If it's relevant, this neighbour has a low wall round his front lawn that has clearly been damaged by a vehicle. Possibly someone reversing into it. There is no way if that was the cause of the damage, that it was the fault of a parked car on the road opposite and not the driver of the car! Grin

Surely his complaint to the council will be ignored? Isn’t the alternative to road parking no parking/double yellow lines? Then anyone who visits will have to park further away and walk?!

AIBU to be a little bit more excited about this than I should be? I've been interrogating DH all evening. He thinks I'm over-interested and has stopped answering my questions. WTF does this bloke think the council are going to do??

Do only the Downhillers have lawns?
Are Uphillers not allowed grass?

(BTW your lawn could do with a mow!)

WonderMike · 18/02/2017 22:15

Has he been driving into his own wall? Is that evidence of his shite driving?

No one is going to take a complaint about people legally parking on a road, not blocking anything, where there isnt any parking restrictions.

WatchingFromTheWings · 18/02/2017 22:15

Council won't be interested, assuming they're all parked legally (not on yellow lines etc).

MetalMidget · 18/02/2017 22:16

That diagram is lovely.

I've been interrogating DH all evening. He thinks I'm over-interested and has stopped answering my questions.

LTB.

FucketyFuckFuckers · 18/02/2017 22:18

Haha wow thanks for the diagram feedback all.

DesolateWaist think it would be more related to them having visitors come and go more often than everyone else rather than having a problem with the residents themselves. There are cars there all the time but they're mostly on the driveway.

Amazing diagram

MajesticWhine · 18/02/2017 22:20

Uphillers appear to have sacrificed their lawns for more parking space. The fools. That's why neighbour is bitter. His parking capacity is very important to him and he will not have it compromised.

ladygracie · 18/02/2017 22:21

I haven't read the whole thread but had to comment on your fabulous diagram. I LOVE the attention to detail and all the colours!

FucketyFuckFuckers · 18/02/2017 22:22

Breakfast for some reason they all seem to have paved their front gardens on that side. Our side are the crappy bits of grass + scabby old tarmac - theirs are naice block paving. our house is bigger though ha

DesolateWaist · 18/02/2017 22:25

I love that this is turning into a conflict between the Uphillers and the Downhillers.

PyongyangKipperbang · 18/02/2017 22:28

I suspect that he buttled over to tell your DH and the other man in the hopes that they would back him up and then he could say that he has the full support of other neighbours.

Twat.

Oh and yes they will tell him that there is no law breaking going on and nothing that indicates the need for double yellows.

DJKKSlider · 18/02/2017 22:28

How come two cars have purple lines through?

Is it because they're racing cars and they have racing stripes cuz it makes em go faster? Smile

Starlight2345 · 18/02/2017 22:29

Also adding admiration for the diagram.

As long as legally parked no issue.

PageStillNotFound404 · 18/02/2017 22:31

I like your handwriting, OP. Wish mine was more like that.

PyongyangKipperbang · 18/02/2017 22:31

Its also clear that he fucked up his own wall and is trying to find a reason why it isnt his fault.

Double twat

MyCatIsTryingToKillMe · 18/02/2017 22:34

I didn't even finish the op, I just needed to come on and say that your diagram was excellent, I am mightily impressed. 😄

SmileEachDay · 18/02/2017 22:35

Are you a teacher OP?

You have good board writing.

FucketyFuckFuckers · 18/02/2017 22:36

DH said he "fanned the flames a bit" by saying "oooh yeah one of their cars was parked over our grass the other day" 😂 (He's right, a car on their driveway had overlapped our lawn by about a millimetre - to park beside the car that was already on the drive and therefore avoiding having to park on the road - and DH was irrationally irked by it) Anyway I'm secretly hoping this prompts neighbour to pop over asking for a signature on a petition or something. Would quite like to see DH trying to squirm his way out of that one!

WhatintheWorld Not too close to the end of the road. Definitely not by the time you get to our lawn, which is where they park. I should probably point out that the diagram is not 100% to scale so that might not be clear Grin

What part of PUBLIC highway doesn't he understand?

SquinkiesRule · 18/02/2017 22:38

I love your diagram too OP. A++
Sadly this will be a short lived post as the council won't be coing round to paint yellow lines and he's being an idiot if he thinks they care.
Dam are you sure he isn't related to Nicolarse and Cuntoline? Can they come by and liven up the street by parking on his drive.

FucketyFuckFuckers · 18/02/2017 22:40

DJKKSlider the purple lines are to indicate the [approximate] middle of the double drive- we park either side of the middle whereas some people with only one car (or some of the carers who might arrive on their own and not be joined for another 8 hours) will park one car down the middle of a double driveway. I forgot the lines on the uphill side Blush

There was a big parking feud on my street years ago before we moved here. The feuders apparently kept complaining to the council about each other. In the end the council got so fed up that the individuals were told that if there was one more approach to the council they would come and put double yellow lines around the entire street. As part of the feud, one house painted a huge white 'keep clear' on the road outside their house. You aren't allowed to paint signs on public roads so the council came with yellow paint and crossed it all out. The paint was all quite worn and chipped away, and when the street was resurfaced a few years ago the contractors carefully repainted the keep clear sign - without the yellow crossings out.
But basically, if people are parking legally, the council will do nothing - there's nothing they can do.

FucketyFuckFuckers · 18/02/2017 22:45

Erm... I wish my handwriting was like that too. It is not. I used a font Blush

OP posts:
Oldraver · 18/02/2017 22:45

The council will laugh at him hopefully

Looking at his wall...how could anyone else have damaged it ? I reckon he is a crap parker and did it himself
