To leave the baby outside to sleep?

It's 8 degrees here, took the baby (20 month old) for a walk earlier on with my mum and he went fast asleep. Very unlike him to sleep in pram as he's such a light sleeper so he must be really tired.

He would definitely wake up if we took him inside plus my mum has a dog that keeps barking so we've left him on the patio in the pram. We can see him through patio doors. He's wrapped up in hat, coat and footmuff and we've draped another blanket over the pram so there's no sun/wind getting on him and he's still sleeping.

Surely no different to a long walk? Just seems a bit wrong leaving him outside!

He'll be fine. He might get a bit too hot being so wrapped up!

Be thankful for the peace for a few minutes. We did it all the time.

A lot of mothers in Scandinavian countries do this every day and would not dream of letting their children nap anywhere else. In theory, it makes the children more resilient and they nap for longer in the fresh air.

I once nannies for a Danish family and the baby had all her naps outside.

I used to park my DS up on the back balcony when he fell asleep in his pray as a baby, he was so wrapped up he'd have been much too hot inside and woken up really quickly. It snowed that winter & he was all wrapped up & snuggled warm

It's actively encouraged in Scandinavian countries as long as they're appropriately dressed for the temperature. I regularly do it in a secure outside location where I can keep an eye on her

Perfectly acceptable, and totally normal practice in Sweden...

No Scandinavian woman worth her salt passes up a chance to have a sleeping baby and time to herself

Yep, leave him. I used to do this with mine all of the time. Just make sure he's covered up and you keep checking on him to make sure he's not getting too warm / cold.

As long as the blanket is draped over the baby and not draped over the pram. It's unclear from your post. You should never drape a blanket over the front of the pram to proctect from sun etc as it doesn't provide enough adequate ventilation.

You should google it, it's very fashionable to do and supposed to be very good for them. ☺

Cross post is that the case eggs eleven, it was draped over half of the hood but I did leave the one side uncovered.

I didn't realise that.

If it was half covered am sure that's fine and I think it's more in hot weather that it's more of a dangerous issue

I was frequently left in the garden in my pram as a baby. In Scotland. Did me no harm.

Last week I came back from an appointment to find DS in the garden in his pram with the rain cover on (in Scotland, in winter). MIL thought it was better because the house was noisy as they were getting some work done to the house. I was a bit , I admit, but DS was fine; wrapped up and happily snoozing away.

My aunty is Swedish and she told DM about putting babies outside for naps, so all 3 of us were left (in sight) in our prays to sleep. I let DS nap outside in the autumn, he had the best sleeps as a refluxy newborn in the fresh air

It's the norm in Denmark. They do it at day nurseries too ( or at least they did 20 years ago). Rows of prams outside the nursery with sleeping babies in.

I do this all the time, actively arrange it so in fact. DD sleeps better and long in the pram outside, and I don't have to creep around inside house. Exactly as you have described, in pram on patio facing in to living room, where I can get on with housework sitting down with a cup of tea whilst watching her.

I'll take her to a playgroup in morning, and before we leave nappy change and feed. Then in to pram with foot muff and coat on. Perfect conditions for her to fall asleep on way home, then have a nice long garden nap 👌🏼

I keep my pram in the garage (attached to the house with connecting door in the kitchen) and I leave my ds in there asleep which is effectively the same as it's freezing in there. He sleeps much longer in there than if I took him in.

I have done this a lot with ds2. He would only sleep after a good bit of walking with him in the buggy, so was regularly parked in my back garden.
Plenty of blankets in the cold, rain cover if it was wet. It doesn't seem.to have done him any harm at all, and it meant I got a break!
