Anybody seen this video yet? Not the most accurate Trumpy impression, but good fun. Turns into a song which isn't that good.

AcrossthePond55 · 18/02/2017 00:36

Hey! I learnt a new word today for SCROTUS (via YouTube)....BAWBAG!!!!

I really like that word! Fantastic word, the best word. I intend to use it bigly.

DH and I are already placing bets on how big the crowd will be at the 'rally' tomorrow. I say 'rally' because what it really is, is a command performance in which the majority of attendees will be Trump employees and those who are 'beholden' or tied to him in some way. Then there'll be the paid attendees.

I'm hoping there is very little press coverage, but I expect that's too much to ask.

cozietoesie · 18/02/2017 00:39

I would hope that the press - other then the few sycophants who you pretty well have to expect - don't attend. As a mark of solidarity with the journalists who were insulted.

cozietoesie · 18/02/2017 00:42

SenecaFalls · 18/02/2017 00:57

Yes, "bawbag" is a wonderful Scots word. I love it, too. And it's especially fitting since Trump does like to go on and on about his Scottish heritage.

ZebraOwl · 18/02/2017 01:22

I suspect Nicola Sturgeon is prolly trying to find out if a nation can disinherit someone so Scotland can stop Trump from ever again claiming any kind of Scottishness. Dekilt the alligator, that's what I say! (Sadly am not drunk, just very very sleepytired. Well, not sadly, exactly, but not being allowed any alcohol at all ever does make one wish one could have it sometimes at least. Or have the choice. Or something. Any interesting typos/autocowrecks are because I can't actually seem to keep my eyes open to do the writing-posting thing...)

Is there a sort of terminal velocity for all this I wonder. Would it have to be multi-factoral/systemic or could a single thing [seemingly] independent of its context bring Trump - & his flimsy house of cards - toppling down? So annoying: thoughts insrticulable fluttering at the edges of my mind - enough to agitate me from sleep but too tired to think them or to think even the simplest things. I blame Trump. Exactly why I'm doing so is, ofc, classified. But definitely justified. Yup.

AcrossthePond55 · 18/02/2017 01:30

Seneca You mean his 'Scotch' heritage, at least that's what he calls it. Ignorant git.

SenecaFalls · 18/02/2017 01:42

I didn't realize. Add to things he needs to learn: Scotch is whisky or broth, but not people.

SenecaFalls · 18/02/2017 01:59

This is a bit off topic, but I know that posters on this thread will be interested, especially because of Trump's support from the NRA. This case illustrates the sort of laws that get passed by state legislatures (in this case mine) when lawmakers are in thrall to the NRA. Happily, the federal courts have ruled the statute unconstitutional.

I just made a little donation to a gofundme site sending pizza to New York Times and Washington post journalists as a sign of appreciation for the hard work they are doing.

SenecaFalls · 18/02/2017 02:39

What a great idea, saffron. I was thinking today that it would be nice to find ways to show journalists how much so many of us appreciate what they are doing.

MrsT2007 · 18/02/2017 07:50

Had interesting discussion with graduate of American politics.

Seemingly is impeachment does take place re: Russia, then it's likely both Trump and Pence are implicated and would have to go.

Presidential role then goes to the speaker of the house. Who is an anti Trump Republican.

I am waiting for all the sh*t to hit the fan as I'm sure that there's plenty of dossiers being prepared behind the scenes at the CIA.

amispartacus · 18/02/2017 07:54

The thing about the press conference is that it's easy to check for yourself what happened - people in the media can express their opinions on it - but I would hope people who were interested can check for themselves.

Whether you come to your view independently having seen that video without bringing your own views to it is interesting:

It would be interesting to ask a Trump supporter what they thought of certain responses in the conference.

Ask them what the links to uranium mean?
Why did Flynn resign?
Should a President give any idea of their views on foreign policy?
What did they think of his response to the Jewish reporter?
Why did he mention the size of his victory?

It keeps them off the fake news response - but asks important questions.

Of course when Trump was asked that, he kept going on about fake news.

I'll say it again: smirking Ryan on inauguration day had the look of a man biding his time.

amispartacus · 18/02/2017 08:00

Given he reminded people that the crowd used to boo reporters, would you attend?

When there is a world crisis, the American people and the world need to trust the White House and the press to report correctly and accurately.

John Mccain

In case there was any doubt that this was about Trump. Here's what followed:

"[The founders of the Munich conference] would be alarmed by an increasing turn away from universal values and toward old ties of blood and race and sectarianism.”
“They would be alarmed by the hardening resentment we see towards immigrants and refugees and minority groups -- especially Muslims.”
“They would be alarmed by the growing inability and even unwillingness to separate truth from lies.”
"They would be alarmed that more and more of our fellow citizens seem to be flirting with authoritarianism and romanticizing it as our moral equivalent."
That's Trump, Trump, Trump and Trump.

McCain continued: “But what would alarm them most, I think, is a sense that many of our peoples, including in my own country, are giving up on the West, that they see it as a bad deal that we may be better off without, and that while Western nations still have the power to maintain our world order, it's unclear whether we have the will.”

Pence speaking in Munich on Security. What he seems to be saying is directly opposite to what DT says re NATO and Europe. Warm words. The US will stand with NATO

He looks and talks like a President, shame he's such a snake. But the contrast to DT is startling.

BiglyBadgers · 18/02/2017 09:03

Indeed Rousette pence is a right-wing snake but he isn't completely nuts. I can see him as selling himself as some sort of moderate safe pair of hands in comparison to trump though, which shows you how screwed up the world has become Confused

Roussette · 18/02/2017 09:04

"The US strongly supports NATO and will be unwavering in its support". No mention of more money in or they'll withdraw or whatever nonsense the Orange One was spouting. "We will wholeheartedly support this alliance. We will hold Russia accountable, we will continue to hold Russia accountable for Ukraine".

Stick that up your fat arse re Russia DT.

I wonder if Pence realises there has been a lot of damage done by Orange One and he is trying to repair that. Directly at odds with the sort of thing DT says.

I never thought I'd say this but I'm finding Pence reassuring, given how combative DT has been.

Roussette · 18/02/2017 09:05

Great minds think alike Bigly ! I wonder if it's some sort of game plan..

helzapoppin2 · 18/02/2017 09:06

rousette I'm watching Pence in Munich as well. Whether one agrees with him or not, i agree, he presents his case well and is a total contrast to Trump.
