a friend of mines dd says fart all the time! i dont like it and would prefer something less rude! Is it just me?

No, it just sounds wrong out of a 2 year old's mouth....I know I'm prudish, but I do find it offensive too.

No, I feel the same. It's a difficult one but we were never allowed to use the word when we were growing up and I still don't! It's not just you!

mine says fart, if he's done one. I would mind if he used it indiscriminately.
he said 'bumpop' for a bit, but fart has more comic potential imo

My dds 2 and 3yrs none too discreetly tell me they've 'popped' and I reply, 'that's nice dear!'

There are no 'farts' in our house

We're twee. We say "bottom burps".

Mine calls hers 'guffs'. It's a stupid word I used to use at school which I'm proud to say I've passed down to her.

why is bottom burp better than fart?

DD still calls it a 'bottyburp' and she's 5!

My current charge says 'Thunder pants', I don't find 'fart' offensive to be honest.

I didn't know 'fart' was offensive. My dd is 2.5yrs and she says 'fart' as opposed to the twee alternatives. But I haven't gotten any dissaproving looks or sensed any dissaprovement from friends / family around me. I honestly didn't know it is offensive.

I was brought up with "fluffed" and cannot bear it and so taught ds to say farted. I do cringe when he says it infront of my dad but that is better than me cringing everytime he said a "polite alternative" - at least 5 times a day.

I do mind 'popped', which is what all my nieces and nephews say... makes me cringe!

My parents used to say 'let off' - as in 'have you let off?', so at first 'fart' seemed awfully daring, but these days I barely notice.

Now, how can I stop my 2 yr old saying 'belly' instead of 'tummy'? That REALLY gets my goat for some bizarre, repressed middle-class reason...

i didnt expect that kind of response! not just me then! we say blow off. farts not really offensive greenday just sounds wrong coming out of someone so young! im nearly 30 and wouldnt say it infront of my parents!!

My ds, just 3, says fart. It's just what it is, like a burp or poo. In fact today he came into the kitchen and said "Mummy, I just did two farts and I think there must be a poo coming. Can you put the light on in the loo, please?"
