We use "fart" - before potty training we'd ask if it was a "fart doodoo" or a "weeweedoodoo" or a "poodoodoo".

Also teach kids not to trust a fart...

bullywee · 02/08/2022 08:47

It's a fart.

Another pet hate of mine is people who say "poo" or "stinky" instead of what it is - a jobby.

No, it just sounds wrong out of a 2 year old's mouth....I know I'm prudish, but I do find it offensive too.

If it's coming out her mouth I suggest you taking her to a doctor!

I also wonder what the it does sound like, is it a whistling sound or a growl? 😂

Mine calls hers 'guffs'. It's a stupid word I used to use at school which I'm proud to say I've passed down to her.

There’s a bit in dr Seuss’s oh the thinks you can think about thinking up a guff. It always amuses me much more than it should.

I can’t get in any way upset about how people refer to flatulence tbh.

How annoying. I was going to post a photo of a dr Seuss guff and everything.

ReeseWitherfork · 02/08/2022 09:32

Where do people find 15 year old threads about farts?

A jobby? Blush

newlabelwriter · 02/08/2022 09:36

I was never allowed to say it when i was young and I was slightly shocked when mine started saying it but it seemed to completely the norm amongst his teeny peers so I just went along with it.

shiningstar · 28/02/2007 19:58

pesme but what were they called before farts! thats a fairly modern word! i dont see it in the same context as poo etc! oh well each to there own!

Fart is not a modern use at all, been used since the 13th century.

There is a story about Queen Elizabeth I. The Earl of Oxford when giving obeisance happened to fart. He was so ashamed he left the country for 7 years. When he returned the Queen welcomed him saying “My Lord, I had forgot the fart.”

completelyunderwhelmed · 02/08/2022 09:44

Is 'pumped' northern? That's what we say.

Yamyam13 · 02/08/2022 09:49

I had no idea anyone thought the word fart is rude...
My family and DC are therefore very very rude all the time!

GreenManalishi · 02/08/2022 09:56

I don't think I've ever read anything more British 😂

OldYork · 02/08/2022 10:08

Pumps here! Though I’ve noticed the use of farts in a few kids programmes and books and while it does grate on me a little bit, I think it’s generally accepted as a tame end of rude word so I try not to cringe when my kids use it.

It totally mystifies me why any of the euphemisms are less offensive than the word itself, it passes me by, this one I'm afraid. Cannot see anything remotely offensive in the word fart.

This. The alternatives are a million times worse. Why such fastidiousness about a perfectly natural human function.

People who use this twee euphemism are just setting their kids up for all sorts of neurosis.

alnawire · 02/08/2022 10:09

In 2007 it wasn't ok. We are in 2022 now...

Chooksnroses · 02/08/2022 10:25

hahaha! Reminds me of standing in a supermarket queue, and a little girl said to her mother, "Mummy, did you just fluff?" Her very embarrassed mum, said "No" and tried to distract her 3 yr old. The little girl said "Yes you did, Mummy, because my nose is right by your bottom, and I can smell it"

HappinesDependsOnYou · 02/08/2022 10:36

I don't understand why we have decided terms like fart are rude. Releasing gas through burps and farts are normal. My son says farts at 2 as he tells me whether he is doing a poo or wee due to starting potty training. I wouldn't expect an adult to tell me they are as I don't actually care but a 2 year old says things as they are and share everything so why wouldn't they say it?

oakleaffy · 02/08/2022 10:59

Guff is ok.

MagpiePi · 02/08/2022 11:05

Farts all the way here.
Can't stand tweeness about any bodily parts or functions.
Grown ups saying 'poo' makes my skin crawl.

IvyPlant · 02/08/2022 11:07

I have no issue with the word fart.

That being said, my 3 year old says "trump" and sometimes when he farts I ask him if he did a Donald 🫣🤪

Darlissima · 02/08/2022 11:12

“Bottom burp” is absolutely repulsive and much worse than “fart”- it doesn’t actually seem like a euphemism at all to me but rather a deliberately gross term.
