... To make a belt out of a dog lead?

I've seen this really colourful dog lead and think it would make an amazing belt but haven't a clue how to do it!
It's made from polypropylene webbing and is 1" wide.

I'm totally clueless at creative stuff.
Any advice welcome please

You could buy a ratchet belt buckle and attach it (by sewing?) Cut the ends off the lead, making it into a strap, and melt the ends of the strap a bit with a lighter so they don't fray.

I should say l have absolutely no belt making experience... That's just how l'd do it Grin

It's possible to do but can be fiddly. You'd need to cut both ends off the lead so you just have the plain webbing. Melt both ends slightly with a lighter to stop it fraying.

Thread an old buckle onto one end and sew it in place on a sewing machine. Mark out where you want the holes to go at the other end and heat up a thick needle and push it through the webbing to create the holes for the pin of the buckle to go through.

Yeah, why not? I've been using a lovely cat collar as a bracelet for years and nobody's ever said anything. Maybe they just think about how mental I am silently...

Thanks to all, especially incogKNEEto for providing the term ratchet buckle as I didn't know what to call buckle which was hampering my googling.
This is the dog lead in case anyone is interested

What about a buckle like they have on skate belts where it has teeth and isn't actually sewn on to the belt part?

No need to punch holes or try sew it that way.

AlisonWunderland · 16/02/2017 06:58

kaos I don't know what a skate belt is, could you please explain?

Ah right, done some googling and skate belt is another useful search term to use, so thank you.

I'm finding that standard men's belt width is 35mm and I need narrower, around 25mm.
If I search for children's belts everything seems to be cheap or velcro!

It would make a better fashion item than some of the trends we have now.
