AIBU to ask if you lie about your age ... and if so why? I always wonder how many people actually do.

Yes I am a vain bugger and hate turning 50.

When I rejoined my gym last year I was 3 years younger than when I first joined. I often get confused how much I have knocked off my age. Grin

AllTheLight · 13/02/2017 12:55

No, I never have. I'm 42.

UrethaFranklin · 13/02/2017 12:55

No, I've got no reason to. Only time I ever did was way back in the day when I wasn't old enough to get into pubs/clubs (before they used to check ID) Smile

enfru · 13/02/2017 12:57

Not anymore- was 19 from the age of 15 until I turned 18 so as to get into places and was occasionally 15 once I'd turned 16 in order to get a child ticket to theme parks/buses etc

Rugbyplayersarehot · 13/02/2017 12:59

Well I didn't at 42 either!

MaisyPops · 13/02/2017 13:00

I work with teenagers so yes. I've been 21 for so many years.
Always funny to watch them trying to decide if that's the truth.

brasty · 13/02/2017 13:02

No. Have considered telling people I am older than I am, so that I hear others saying I look young for my age. But I don't, as they might not.

Snugglepalace · 13/02/2017 13:04

No what's the point? Most people look their age, give or take a year or two. Only a handful are lucky enough to look much younger, either that or they are delusional in thinking they look years younger!!

user1483387154 · 13/02/2017 13:05

39 and nope never have

Huldra · 13/02/2017 13:05

I used to lie at 17 to buy vodka Smile

I don't see the point as an adult. What's the point of telling people that I'm 36, instead of 46, and they think how shit I look for that age.

MrsJayy · 13/02/2017 13:05

Yes when i was over 16 and trying to get half fare on the bus i got away with it till i was 20 Grin nowadays no never what is the point.

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 13/02/2017 13:07

I've only ever lied to be older - I went to uni at 17 so said I was 18 for that first year to get into clubs etc!

Not fussed about my age now (when I can remember how old I am).

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/02/2017 13:08

No because I love it when people say. Oh my God. You don't look it. You look about 15 years younger ect ect.
I used to hate despise detest getting told I looked young for my age. Now I revel in it.

AllTheBabies · 13/02/2017 13:09

30 and no. Unless you count pretending to to older than 18 when underage and drinking.

WorraLiberty · 13/02/2017 13:09

No, never and I'm nearly 48.

I'm also not coy about it either.

I've never really 'got' why it's rude to ask someone's age. Obviously I don't (because I know it's rude), but to me age is just a simple fact.

It should be considered no ruder than asking someone's name in my view.

megletthesecond · 13/02/2017 13:11

No. I'm 42 and everyone thinks I'm younger anyway. or just immature

SilenceOfThePrams · 13/02/2017 13:11

Once.
At 17.11 to get into an 18 film.
Never since then.

MyWhatICallNameChange · 13/02/2017 13:11

Only jokingly. My youngest thinks I'm 25, so I tell people to ask him how old I am and ignore my other children who are all liars and say I'm 40. Grin

Nellyphants · 13/02/2017 13:12

Only sister got invited to her42 year old colleague's surprise 50th . No point lying you'll get caught out!

MrsJayy · 13/02/2017 13:13

I was out a few weeks ago group of dhs workmates and wives subject of age came up 1 woman refused to say her age and said 50 something she got really annoyed about it not sure why she brought the coversation up Confused

Sleeplessinmybedroom · 13/02/2017 13:15

I don't lie about my age but I do forget how old I am when someone asks and have to say umm 33 no 34 no 35 I think.

SparkleTwinkleGoldGlitter · 13/02/2017 13:17

No but dh does he says his 10 years younger than he is 😂

ShakyMilk · 13/02/2017 13:19

Sometimes when I watch First Dates I am incredulous about people's ages! I am convinced some of the people (or if I'm being totally honest, the women) on that show do. Or maybe I just can't tell people's ages very well!

OP posts:
Iamastonished · 13/02/2017 13:20

I can understand why teenagers lie to get into places or to buy drinks. I think that older people who lie about their age must be very insecure or rather pathetic.

I'm 58 and I don't care who knows it.

alltouchedout · 13/02/2017 13:22

Not intentionally. I sometimes forget though. In my head I was 27 for about 4 bloody years! I've only just got myself to realise that I am 35, when I turn 36 in a few months time I will almost certainly be confused again.
