AIBU?

AIBU to think 6 pairs of underpants in not sufficient?

I was visiting my parents and DF came out of shower complaining he had no clean underpants in drawer. He had to wait for the wash my DM was doing to finish, and them tumble dry the three pairs of underpants that were in there( among other things obviously). When I asked if they had had trouble with washing machine and had been unable to do washing DM said no. DF had three more pairs of pants in laundry basket which makes a total of 6. DM saw no problem in this - God knows what they do when they go on holiday for longer than a week. My DH ,DD and myself have at least 14 pairs each. My DPs are in their 70s, is this an age thing?

katronfon Me too! And DH - though, since I buy his underwear, maybe that's just me projecting my compulsive knicker habit onto him. I go through them and throw out the more wornout ones once I can no longer cram the latest batch of new ones in the drawer in a while.

Obviously, I'd say 6 is too few but given what I said above I'm clearly not the person to ask.

The weird ones are those making do with a week's worth Grin

I've got around 70 pairs maybe. My DH has possibly 25 or 30. My ten year old DS has around 30 pairs and my DD likewise

Works for us!

I want to count mine too now but It's 4.40 am here, DH is still asleep and I think he might get a bit grouchy if I go in there and start rummaging through drawers -

I suppose it's okay when you're at home, as You can always wash them, and if you're going on holiday obviously you'd just buy more

There are 5 of us and we all have a drawerful!! DH goes through about 10 pairs a week Confused I'd love to only do 2 washes a week though!

Elderly people when they were younger would have had far less clothes than is normal today. Some people change their habits as society changes. Others stick to what they knew when they were young.

Trifleorbust- I thought it may be a problem for DM as she is the one who does the washing. When she said it is not a problem I tried to explain that it obviously was as DF was now having to sit around 'commando style ' waiting for his undies to dry.

I have a drawer full of underwear, so does DH, so does DD.

In theory, everyone should only need a week, but once I factor in what can be worn under what and so and so forth, unless we're all only going to have 7 pairs of beige pants, we need more.

I operate on the method of I need at least a week to be able to go away, excerpting the ones worn in the days immediately before we go (and I like to pack early!) and I don't want to have to wash as soon as we get back, so I plan for around 3 weeks worth because I always take spares on hols.

Yes, but unless he has a problem with waiting, there's no problem! Certainly it isn't your DM's problem. She already has the washing to do without worrying about your DF's bare arse as well!

Rafflesway, your husband has about 30 pairs of pants, but throws them away after a few months? So, he wears each pair 3 or 4 times before chucking them out? What on earth does he do to them?? Shock

I've just counted 17 pairs in my drawer. If we assume there are probably 3 pairs in the wash and one currently on my bottom, that's 21. About 12 are lacy, frilly, uncomfortable or a strange colour (why do I have 2 pairs of orange knickers?), so I mostly keep up with the washing well enough to stick to the plain black cotton ones. DH has a drawer full, plus the little tight ones he wears for sports. DD has probably 30 pairs, but she's not 100% reliable at getting to the loo in time, so there is often knicker bunting on the radiator as I've realised there's going to be a shortage and put an emergency wash on. They all get chucked and replaced at the first hint of loose elastic, greying or other tattiness. Tatty knickers are not welcome here, in case of emergency.

Another one with knicker bunting on the radiators- DD has probably about 30 pairs in total, but wears the same 5 favourites most days. Who knows about DH. I have 30 ish too, but at least half of those won't fit over my bump and a handful are posh pants for special occasions.

I have between 7 & 10 pairs of boxers (my preferred undercracker) at any one time and a 3 pairs of briefs, worn for sport.

As the boxers wear out they get thrown away when I'm down to 7 I buy more generally in a 2 or 3 pack, the sports briefs can come into usage if the boxer situation becomes critical before new stocks are purchased.

I have 60 pairs of pants but DP has around 20 pairs! But there's only 2 people in my house, so I don't need to have the washer on everyday... about once a week normally!

Surely the minimum amount of pairs is your longest holiday plus one?

If you don't do holidays then I'd agree that 8 seems a minimum in case you only do one wash in a week.

OH gosh, I have about 20, what if you have DV, or run out! With women, you need more because of periods and leakage.

Bit amazed at those who don't have tatty pants.

I couldn't put pants on the radiator nor the washing line. Has to be tumble dryer.

Df could always do his own laundry if he feels they arent being washed fast enough.

Also a whole drawer full!

Those people with only a weeks' worth - do you not match them to what you're wearing (eg avoiding a VPL or wearing nude ones under lighter coloured clothing)?
