Who is Ted Malloch, the frontrunner for Donald Trump's EU ambassador pick? bit.ly/2kktVBb

cozietoesie · 12/02/2017 18:39

As I said some threads back - The Federalist Papers. (You heard it here first. Wink)

nicenewdusters · 12/02/2017 18:42

I do think that some people are totally oblivious to anything that suggests they have faults, weaknesses etc. Even when it's pushed in front of them they don't "see" it. I know someone like this. He's utterly baffled if someone disagrees with or challenges him. He also does the too-hard handshake. I liken it to a dog pissing against the lamp post - "I'm here, this is my territory,"

FlyMeToTheMoonLiterally · 12/02/2017 18:44

My first thought was he can't destroy the judicial branch of the US, but then I read this article and I think the reality is this hasn't been tested and we don't know if it will survive or not

www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/10/trump-american-democracy-could-break-down-214383

"...This suggests that it isn't primarily the legal genius of the Founding Fathers that has made American democracy uniquely stable, but, at least as importantly, the deep commitment of ordinary Americans to liberal norms like the separation of powers. It is the people's love for democracy, not the protections their democracy affords them on paper, that is the final check on the tyranny of the majority which the founders so feared."

I don't have a doubt in my mind that if they can dismantle the judiciary, they will.

That article I linked was written before Trump was elected, it is terrible to see the nightmare described start to become a reality...

PausingFlatly · 12/02/2017 18:52

Ginger, that's an amazing clip about the Trumps, père et fils, trying to dump their business costs on the South Carolina taxpayer. And the lawyer lying about it on the record. (This isn't historic, this has happened just now.)

As the presenter said, "Trump organisation personnel, stop lying to news organisations. We catch you when you do it."

GingerIvy · 12/02/2017 19:00

Very interesting... a lot about how worries about leaks to kremlin are affecting our relationships with other countries and their intelligence agencies.

Pausing I was chuckling about how pleased she was that they were caught in a bold lie. And yes - this was just within the last week. And clearly he has not divested from his businesses if he bought that business and was filing paperwork in his name in the last few months.

US airstrikes kill 22 civilians in Afghanistan last weekend www.militarytimes.com/articles/afghanistan-official-says-operation-by-us-afghan-forces-killed-22-civilians

Note the government has not told us this. They said the operations went well. That's it. Just like the last one - we have to hear about civilian deaths from other sources a week later.

Lweji · 12/02/2017 19:13

The US could soon become Westeros.
With a wall to the South.
And Summer is coming.
They just need a dragon lady.

The basic facts all line up that Trump is compromised by Russia. This is not a joke.

finance.yahoo.com/news/timeline-president-trumps-ties-russia-203729771.html?soc_src=social-sh&soc_trk=tw

Lweji · 12/02/2017 19:36

The many upsides of Trump's so-called presidency, largely unintentional, in summary:

"Institutions designed to check a president’s power and expose his scandals — from the courts to the comics to the press — are ready for the worst except for the Republican Congress, which seems to be deaf."

This will fuck with your mind.

Timeline:
Morgan gets told to fuck off by a comedian on TV
JK Rowling tweets that was quite funny.
Morgan & Rowling engage in a twitter spat.

Next day: Morgan tweets that Rowling's hero is someone who has said some horrible things about Mcann family.

This is the guy who writes for the Daily Mail. Who employs Hopkins who writes for them.

Oh - and he's BFF with Trump. Trump who has said some pretty awful things and done some pretty awful things.

Morgan has a tactic of attacking people who like something someone said IF that person has a history of saying something horrible - even if that person may not have known about it.

There must be a word of it.

'Defamation by Implication or Association', ami. (Is the phrase you were looking for, I think?)

peaceout · 12/02/2017 20:02

Another phrase which comes to mind is 'extremely tenuous link'
A comedian that you like said something very tasteless, fgs is that the best piers Morgan can come up with

cozietoesie · 12/02/2017 20:09

Well it's up to Rowling.

She certainly has enough money to consult if she wishes to.
