Yesterday came home to find a bit of folded-up paper wedged in a crack in the fence wall bit (pavement goes right past it). Opened it up to find 2x2p coins inside unrecognisable writing - see pic!

Looks like adult writing not a child's.

AYankinSpanx · 12/02/2017 21:30

Could the coins be an easier clue. Anyone know of the significance of copper coins? Copper content? I've heard of the coins of the eyes of the dead, but maybe there's something weirdly occult else?

GerdaLovesLili · 12/02/2017 21:31

Of course, 2p pieces aren't copper any more are they? They stick to magnets these days. So they'd have to be old 2p pieces to be "significant".

AYankinSpanx · 12/02/2017 21:35

I wasn't sure Gerda, I thought maybe there was still copper in ever decreasing amounts but felt sure that someone else would know more than me about it Grin

GerdaLovesLili · 12/02/2017 21:37

And they were bronze rather than copper, before they cost too much to produce anyway.... www.royalmintmuseum.org.uk/FAQRetrieve.aspx?ID=49896

I have totally been glued to this post, wouldn't it have been good if a neighbour had cctv which capturdd the placing of the note

whatsonyourplate · 12/02/2017 21:38

If you look at the 2nd picture, with the margin on the left, the 6th row looks like it begins 'I am not OK....'

Villagernumber9 · 12/02/2017 21:40

If you want to get technical, Traditionally bronze coins were made from an alloy of copper, tin and zinc. Since September 1992, however, 1p and 2p coins have been made from copper-plated steel. The change was made because of the increasing price in world markets of base and non-ferrous metals.

Villagernumber9 · 12/02/2017 21:42

No mention of bronze.

Yogimummy123 · 12/02/2017 21:52

Shamelessly place marking. As I'm intrigued

brooklyn66 · 12/02/2017 22:09

I've now put it on Reddit /translator - www.reddit.com/r/translator/comments/5tonl1/unknown_english_is_this_a_language_handwritten/

Their pages have this which I found quite interesting! Georgian does look like one of the best bets.

I speak Hebrew and can confirm it's not this

Isn't it a Jewish custom to do something like this at Passover? Hmm
Never heard of this or at least we don't do it although you're giving me ideas now

Very intriguing!

PootlewasthebestFlump · 12/02/2017 22:12

It was Imbolc 1-2nd February then a special moon/new moon. So could well be wiccan /pagan.

But I agree it also looks like a repetitive flow of 'writing' due to mental health issues.

NoToast · 12/02/2017 22:14

I lived in the Cotham area of Bristol in about 1997, I found a sheet of paper in the street with similarish writing. I bought it home as my housemate had another sheet of it on the kitchen wall that I'd never asked her about.

Turned out she'd also found hers in the street, we never did find out what writing it was. I think it's long lost but will see if I can dig it out tomorrow.

Oterino · 12/02/2017 22:15

Looks like Persian?

elephantoverthehill · 12/02/2017 22:20

sara4 · 12/02/2017 22:25

Definitely not Hebrew

user1484603141 · 12/02/2017 22:27

Just looked at the writing, can almost pick words out and it's almost like they are really bad spellings, so could it be travellers/Romany ppl that have put it there. The children I worked with in school were unusual cause they were going to school, not many of them do, hence the bad spellings.
