To feel weird about this

Group of colleagues were going to a work buffet lunch thing down the road from where we work. Didn't feel like joining so said I had to meet a friend but ended up having a little lunch for one in one of the meeting rooms - desperately needed some space and alone time! Feel weird for lying about it though

YANBU to need some time on your own but probably better not to lie in the future - most of the time no one will find out (or care that much) but if they did happen to it would be awkward.

Don't feel bad. You didn't hurt anyone.

JustSpeakSense · 10/02/2017 13:50

Don't feel bad, but I agree try and not lie, if you get caught out you'd look a right knob!

Hope you enjoyed your peaceful lunch.

NancyDonahue · 10/02/2017 13:51

I wouldn't worry about the lie now. They have probably forgotten about it.

Next time though a 'I fancy a quiet lunch on my own today' will be fine. Nothing wrong with that at all.

If you don't feel like socialising, and don't want to say so, "I've got a headache, just taken a tablet so will just stay here in the quiet" would be more reasonable/less likely to be caught out/less guilt inducing for you.

"Sorry, I'm not feeling very sociable today. You guys have a lovely lunch though"

I've said this on many an occasion.
