AIBU to tell you all that I am going to give a pint this afternoon, just because I love these threads and how they inspire others to give.

I wanted to donate platelets but I am too tiny so a pint of the red stuff it is!

Also for younger mums might be worthwhile going the bone marrow donor register. Quite easy to do.

Bumping as I think it's a great thing to do. Can't go now as pregnant but next donation will be number 20. It really is worth doing if you can, for anyone who's thinking enjoy your free cake afterwards

I am going in a couple of weeks. After which I will be going again once I reach 4 months after the next tattoo I have done. Next donation will be no. 56 and I aim to reach 100. 😊

I love these threads :) so thankful for everyone who donates blood. I'm not able to, but I'm on the Anthony Nolan register and the organ donor register. I like to feel I've done my part in that there are 5 regular blood donors now who started because of my dissertation at uni

I received a pint of B+ the other day because my chemo makes me anaemic. It's given me such a boost. I was getting breathless just climbing the stairs and didn't have much energy to do things. I've been out almost every day since my transfusion and I can breathe more easily :) it's not the same excitement as saving someone's life after a car accident or keeping little babies alive, but it means I can have life-extending treatment and still get to enjoy life too.

I used to donate, but I've now taken out more than I put in! I'm trying to encourage friends and family to donate. It's such a great thing to do.

YABU because the real reason to give blood is for a little pack of Tug biscuits with that weird cheese spread in the middle and a plastic cup of orange squash. Practically my staple diet when I was a student. I can't donate at the moment and I'm having withdrawal symptoms!!

Good for you, have a ! I am prone to anaemia and low blood pressure so am not allowed to donate but I am on the organ donor register, and DH donates blood.

I love the Seabrook crisps, and an excuse for a Club! Last time I went the nurse said only 4% of the population donate. I was shocked. I posted on FB about it (nicely) and offered a lift, tea, cake, chat to any of my friends who were perhaps thinking about it, but had never got round to it. It's resulted in two new donors and a lapsed donor returning so I'm pleased.

Should have said that I know there's lots of perfectly valid reasons why people can't or don't donate - which is, of course, absolutely fine.

Been a paid up blood donor from 17 as well as being on the organ donation list and registered with Anthony Nolan. I'm really pleased to do it its basically the only altruistic thing I do

Just remember to go slow on that afterwards, I'm such a cheap date if I have a drink within 24 hours of donation!

WhatwouldLeslie I am B+ that just made me feel all gooey to know that it really does help someone. I kind of forget about it once I have given it but it is nice to hear from someone on the other side!

I used to regularly donate but due to a 2.5 litre pph after my first DD was born I received 2 transfusions so no longer can. I am eternally grateful to those who do, you are 's.

Giving blood to help a cancer sufferer is one of the many reasons I do it. Another pint coming up next week.

I haven't donated in a while cos I've just had a baby. My first baby was extremely premature and received many blood and platelet transfusions. After my recent birth I lost a huge amount of blood and barely avoided transfusion myself. Thankyou donors, you save lives.

I was nearly at 10 donations when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes! I'm not allowed anymore but I constantly encourage everyone I know to do it, my mum does it as do a few of my friends now!

Cake and crisps?! That's not on! I get a Rich Tea or a Bourbon!

I'm donating for 15th time on March 7th. Found out I was O- when I had my DD (now 8) and I've been donating pretty regularly since my DS (now 6) was born. The DC take turns to come and watch, they even like holding the bag after its done! They are future doners for sure. I know I should have started donating earlier. My dad had his life saved by a wonderful O+ blood doner two years ago, recieving two units as treatment for a gastric bleed. Thank you whoever you are.

I used to give but since I've fainted a few times I'm not allowed to now. I'm on the organ and bone marrow registers, but not blood anymore. If you're thinking of giving, please do... since I can't I'll make do with nudging others to do so!
