Really?

I think they need to have someone actually pull him right back, very forcefully, the next time he shakes hands like that.

Let's see.... Duane Johnson? Arnold S? Grin

amispartacus · 11/02/2017 14:56

Morgan makes clear point about contrast between policy on guns and contrast on refugees.

They're not "pro-life" they are "pro-birth." Huge difference. The moment that baby is out, they don't give a fuck what happens to it.

And they want guns to be free and available to everyone, unless it's not in benefit of them. Then it's horrible dreadful gun crime.

Hypocrites.

What was his point? I missed that.

If Trump is so concerned about the safety of Americans, then why doesn't he introduce universal background checks on gun buyers?

  1. Trump wants to protect Americans from the low risk of terrorism so he implements the ban.
  2. Many Americans are killed by guns. So why doesn't he do work on the background check 3)Trump wants to protect Americans from being raped and murdered by refugees and illegal immigrants.
  3. So what action is he taking towards VAWG issues in the USA?

He needs to be more than a little careful with California,

I agree, Cozie, but since when has 'careful' ever been in his vocabulary? I expect he'll try to 'sell us off' like one would a 'failing investment'. We should be so lucky!

DH and I have both signed the secession petition. It'll never happen, of course, but if enough people sign maybe some of the GOP legislators here will take notice. We live in one of the few 'red' areas in Calif and believe me, I'm pretty sure the staff at our (GOP) Representative's office now recognizes our voices when they answer the phone! He's up for reelection in 2018. We're already mobilizing!

SenecaFalls · 11/02/2017 15:13

Word has it that his proposed budget may seek to de-fund the grants program of the Violence Against Women Act, which provides funding to domestic violence and sexual assault agencies.

SafariSoGood · 11/02/2017 15:18

When DT isn't in his bed/bathrobe tweeting, I wonder what kind of Tweeter he is?

Is he a sneak off to the loo and tweet?

Or is he the type to update FB at the table when in company?

Oh to be a fly on the wall of the Abes room or to be the one monitoring the cameras installed in their room by DT & Co

It's a strange world. Get someone to say that they are concerned about illegal immigration because of terrorism and an increase in rapes and assaults but then ask them if they think it's ok to do background checks on people who buy guns and to fund grant programs as above and they have an issue with that.

Cognitive dissonance

I don't know, Across. If he treated California - and, Goodness Forbid, Texas - to some of the same language he used about the judiciary, then secession might get a head of steam. Who can tell?

cozietoesie · 11/02/2017 15:25

The GOP have the tiger by the tail now, right enough.

SenecaFalls · 11/02/2017 15:30

I live in Florida. We already seceded once. That did not work out so well.

cozietoesie · 11/02/2017 15:32

Past mistakes don't always reckon in the equation with such things, Seneca. They can, in fact, sharpen minds.

Deejoda · 11/02/2017 15:35

There is a definite cognitive deficit somewhere wrt Trump becoming so-called EP. The most ridic example being the scrapping of restricting rights to buy a firearm for someone with a proven mental illness. No sensible person would think that was a bad piece of legislation.

amispartacus · 11/02/2017 15:40

It's quite interesting.

The UK has just left voted to leave a large union of countries where the collective power helps with negotations and which has an unelected leader and a central Court. We want to have more control over our laws and decisions.

The USA has a central President who presides over many States who have their own taxes, budgets and also receive federal funding. The President is telling them what to do and the States are fighting it so it goes to the Supreme Court.

I bet a lot of bigger States would love to have their own laws, their own Parliament and to make their own decisions - to take back control.

That would fuck up the mind of a Trump / Brexit supporter who opposed California seceding when you put the same arguments to them that a Brexit supporter used to leave the EU.

The EU and the USA have a lot in common. Probably far more than people like to think about...All those Americans who have the right to live anywhere in the USA, to cross state borders, to get funding and money from the richer states who pay more taxes....

OP posts:
merrymouse · 11/02/2017 15:42

Secession seems unlikely, but in a conflict between California and Trump, what can Trump do?

To be honest, I think you can find that closer to home with Scottish independence!

Yes - there's lots of parallels..

"So you want to be free of England but you also want to be in the EU"

Of course, Yorkshire should secede from the UK.

The Californian economy is very big, isn't it...A big contributor to the US economy...

It is fascinating how the WORLD works.

Just imagine a world with no borders. No countries. Anyone can go where they want.

I look at the UK - where we have poorer areas and richer. Local Government, National Government, migration from North to South.

The EU same thing bigger scale.

It's fascinating...
