they're in favour of a dictator when his views and actions and align with (what they perceive as) their own interests, and it doesnt occur to them that he is highly likely to do things which dont benefit them.
They see themselves as self evidently good and right as opposed to the obviously bad and wrong who will be targeted by their hero.
