I'd say magnesium. Helps my sleep and makes me feel less anxious.

OP posts:
TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 07/02/2017 20:03

I've been taking VitD and B for about six month now, and my joints are much much better for it

I always said my ankles did not wake up for at least an hour after I did, and I'd have to mince down the stairs, one at a time, ...not anymore!!

I did recently add in a multivit with iron, but last week I had the MOST awful stomach cramps and black poo, but we wont mention that and I remembered the same happening after having to take iron after the children were born, so I have knocked that on the head for a bit
I might try another month's worth just to see, but I reckon the iron is the culprit. I had to get the slow release ones in the end form the GP all those years ago.

Anatidae · 07/02/2017 20:06

Don't supplement iron unless you have been tested for deficiency! High doses can be very bad for you.

user892 · 07/02/2017 20:12

My multi vitamin makes me feel nauseous a little while after taking it

CrowRoad · 07/02/2017 20:14

I'm interested in what brand and dose of magnesium and vit D people are taking. I'd like to start taking these along with my regular B complex.

minifingerz · 07/02/2017 20:16

Diagnosed with anaemia and low ferritin. Wouldn't take iron otherwise.

user892 · 07/02/2017 20:23

I think Tesco magnesium for women, 375mg or thereabouts Crow

user892 · 07/02/2017 20:24

And me vit D is a combo pill with calcium (Tesco) you can take 3 a day

LiveThroughThis · 07/02/2017 20:24

I started taking a multi bit+iron and have more energy and feel generally happier.

burninglikefire · 07/02/2017 20:26

Menopace Plus has been great for me. The tablets have reduced hot flushes from the menopause from 30 or so a day to about one every other day. I was sceptical at first, but if I run out then after a couple of months the frequency of the hot flushes creeps up again.

You take two tablets every day. Looking at the nutritional info, one seems to be a mixture of a multivitamin and mineral and the other contains soya, sage, green tea and flaxseed. It is the second one that is supposed to target menopausal symptoms (I think).

Lifechanging for me is Zinc - have suffered with cystic acne since forever and was sick of using the pill and antibiotics to control it. Started taking zinc everyday and it cleared up 100% which is a huge big deal for me. I also take starflower b12 and magnesium for severe pms - they keep me from committing murder every month.

CatsMother66 · 07/02/2017 21:20

I've recently started taking lutein tablets as macular degeneration seems to run in the family. Both my husband and I have noticed a big reduction in the glare from on coming vehicles at night. Also I have started drinking beetroot juice which is amazing for lowering high blood pressure (nitrates)

noschooll4mee · 07/02/2017 21:42

Shameless , listless Williams terms marking so I can compose my Vitamin shopping list 😁

noschooll4mee · 07/02/2017 21:43

🙈🙈🙈ffs

Monkeyinshoes · 07/02/2017 22:42

I take magnesium, zinc, vit C and vit D. I seem to catch everything going if I don't.

ChishandFips33 · 07/02/2017 22:50

Calcium and vitamin D here

Interested in the palpitations/folate link though so might consider adding another supplement

user1471537877 · 07/02/2017 23:00

Derlei

I am fortunate vit d is prescribed, I have an experienced physio who is also a nutritionist helping me she's specialises in ME fibro

I take solfgar gentle iron it's the only form I can tolerate and methylcobalamin (b12) as this is the most bio available form which can be important if you have an MTHFR problem which I do

skincarejunkie · 07/02/2017 23:08

My ankles are sleepier than my legs too! Will try magnesium. I find licorice a genuinely effective moodlifter. Soothes my anxiety quickly. And ginger for joints. Preferably with turmeric. Either fresh in hit water or a tea bag. Not strictly vits but supplements.

skincarejunkie · 08/02/2017 14:37

Fab thread. I'm now £30 lighter and H&B are really happy. (Thought it was market day but turns out today is Wednesday so ended up in H&B instead of my lovely herbal man) Magnesium with VitD, Zinc, Cranberry & Evening Primrose purchased. I'm rattling nicely. Confused

FarAwayHills · 08/02/2017 15:03

I just take a general multi vitamin and mineral supplement as no specific deficiency but I feel that it helps at this time of the year.

HappyAxolotl · 08/02/2017 15:12

Another vote for D. I was a wreck, When I went to the doctors I thought they were going to find something seriously wrong with me. Vitamin D deficiency diagnosis and a short course of high-dose D pills later and I was feeling human again.

CatsMother66 · 08/02/2017 16:36

Skincarejunkie, me too! Magnesium, calcium and zinc combined tablets from h&b. They sound just what I need!!

Wickeswench · 08/02/2017 16:38

Magnesium worked like magic for my constipation.

pishedoff · 08/02/2017 16:47

Those who take Vit D ( and have seen an improvement) what was your symptoms ?

HappyAxolotl · 08/02/2017 17:03

Pishedoff, I had a severe cold/mild flu that made me feel awful for about a week, then it never really went fully away. I was sniffly & tired. I could easily sleep for the entire weekend. Ached everywhere and no energy or enthusiasm for anything. Frequent diarrhoea. But it was a dark January and I put it down to the cold/flu hammering my already poor immune system, work stress, post-Christmas blues...

It was the day I noticed my hair was coming out in handfuls that got me to the doctor.

Weight gain is also a symptom and I had put on about half a stone, but I was barely moving and eating too many takeaways so didn't find that too unusual.

It's often hard to spot Vit D deficiency as there are so many vague & varied symptoms and often it mimics hypothyroid or stress symptoms.

DustyMaiden · 08/02/2017 17:07

B12 unbelievable how Unwell a deficiency can make you.
