To be a bit annoyed

I invited my friend and her husband over for dinner this Friday. I texted her and specifically said "no kids! I'll throw mine into bed early and you get a sitter, we can have adult chats and drink adult wine and eat adult food👍". She responded v excited but later texted again to say she didn't have a sitter so was it ok to bring the kids? I felt I couldn't refuse, nor could I suggest to reschedule as this is the only time for a while that suits. But now I'm dreading it. Our children are all quite young, under 4, so this will not be the relaxing night with adults I had hoped for. AIBU to be annoyed she didn't just say she couldn't come? Or should I be grateful to spend time with friends regardless? I should add I'm pregnant (early days) so feeling more tired than usual.

It depends where you are. Where I was from in the south of england it was normal to bring the kids and put them down to bed in a friends house while the adults had an evening chatting and having a few drinks. Where I live now in central scotland it would be very strange and is definately not the done thing. There seem to be an awful lot more ladies nights out up here where the kids have a babysitter and less of the couple type social arrangements, where the kids bundle off to bed the adults share a meal and a few drinks then the hubbys skulk off to the man cave looking at star wars memerobillia or playing old computer games leaving the women to have a chat. Might just be that I have not met like minded people, but maybe it is a cultural thing. Both chances for a rest are awesome if you have the chance of a babysitter Grin. Or perhaps it is a sign of the times and attitudes towards children and parenthood have changed rather than me changing areas?

I've no idea what's going on here anymore but I assume this is one of goose fucking stupid film inspired threads. Load of bollocks.
