Family with two children, one has a name in the top 10 for that year and fairly consistent in popularity throughout history (biblical name - think Matthew and so on.)

The second has a name that's very, very rare.

What?

humanfemale · 07/02/2017 00:39

It's common. I know lots of people who've fit this pattern, including me and my DH.

When I was naming my first child we wanted something 'classic' that our family and friends would also like and approve of, as well as us. Naming someone was so weird and new a responsibility I didn't want to get it wrong, so think we erred towards traditional. Also I felt that our choice was under more scrutiny first time round.

But we grew more confident as parents and 4 years later we named our daughter exactly what we wanted - unusual and non-traditional and beautiful Smile

AmberNectarine · 07/02/2017 00:41

Nope, my brothers have solid biblical names.

I have a stripper's name.

Ohdearducks · 07/02/2017 00:42

Is it like 'Noah' and 'Dave' or something? I might comment on something like that but it wouldn't bother me as such.

pseudonymph · 07/02/2017 01:06

I would find that odd, not just because one is common and one is extremely rare, but also because they sound very similar. I would presume there was some kind of story behind Jowanet though.

reuset · 07/02/2017 01:38

I would presume there was some kind of story behind Jowanet though.

And one I'd like to hear. Considering they would be the first person to have used the 'name' Jowanet in over 500 years Grin In fact I need to check the 500 year old example in more detail as it's the only one so far in any records. It simply hasn't been used as a name.

Leg pulling for sure Grin

Sorry for quoting you a bit out of context pseudo. Not aimed at you. Grin

An overuse of the grin there!

I have a very unusual name and my brother has a common one. Growing up in rural Yorkshire wasn't fun when all I wanted to be called was something normal. I used to hate the fact my brother got the 'normal' name. However now we're both adults I've grown to love my name and my DB admitted the other week that he wishes his name wasn't so 'boring' Grin

WasabiNell · 07/02/2017 10:52

I once knew identical twins called Antonio and Kevin.

This has really tickled me for some reason 😂

pseudonymph · 07/02/2017 11:00

Not at all reuset - I want to hear the story too.

Puremince · 07/02/2017 18:17

Ages ago I heard an interview on the radio with someone called The Angel. (His first name was "The" and his middle name was "Angel") His older siblings had names like Sarah, Thomas and Rebecca, and his parents had chosen a name like Samuel for him.

However something went wrong during his birth and and his father thought he was going to lose both wife and baby. His mother, very drugged up, told him to call the baby "The Angel" Baby was baptised at less than an hour old, not expected to survive. Father didn't think he could face registering both birth and death at the same time, so he registered the birth first thing next day.

Mother and baby both survived. The father almost didn't survive when the mother found out what the baby's name was.

Did anyone else hear that interview? They sounded like a really nice family.

FairytaleOfSkegness · 08/02/2017 00:36

I am the eldest child with a fairly traditional name, I was most put out that my younger sister was given a more "exotic" name.

I still am a tiny bit tbh Angry

LellyMcKelly · 08/02/2017 01:44

Not at all. My brother and sister have perfectly normal names. Mine is quite unusual in this country. Nobody has thought twice about it
