To ask how often you replace your bedlinen

And do your pillowcases wear out faster?

My duvet covers and sheets are all stained with oil from massaging the pregnancy bump (annoying, tho no stretch marks so yay). Want to replace them all and buy extra spare pillowcases - mine always seem to fade quicker or get marks form make up / stain remover. Just curious how often people replace theirs, and how many sets you keep in rotation.

When I get sick of it. Usually about 5 years or so. It's always in very good condition. I have a set that is 8 years old and I'm just about to replace it and it looks as good as new.

Don't have a set time exactly. Just bought all new ones (Catherine lansfield, and fancy cottons)
The ones before that were cheap and about 7 years old.

It feels so good to have a load of new sheets to choose from!

25+ some are as old as me. The people who replace after less than ten years, what do you do with the "old" stuff?

I don't like new bed linen. It takes a good 4-6 months of weekly washing to feel soft and lovely.

Most of our stuff is decades old, or hand-me-downs.

If I have to get rid of old bedding (bobbly / badly torn / unpleasantly stained) I pass it to the local animal rescue. They are always short of towels, blankets and bedding.

Very disappointed with newer Laura Ashley bedlinen. Old stuff ripped and thread bare.

Oops - forgot to say how old. Maybe 12 years before holes started appearing in the old stuff so replaced with newer stuff, which started to go bobbly within a few months. So I still use the old stuff as I prefer it. One day it will rip. The pillow cases have already bitten the dust.

I wash them, fold them neatly and put each set together inside one of the pillowcases and then into the donation bin.

Ages. We only buy white high thread so no issues with fading

User - can't you just wash them? Blood washes out fine. Just always wash cold first as hot water sets stains.

Still got the sets we bought when we first got married so 20 years ago.

I have cot sheets much older than that though, they have been handed down/up/sideways many times.

Only throw out sheets if they get holes in them and even then they get chopped up to use as cleaning clothes.

I only buy 100% cotton.

I clearly need to buy more expensive linen. I buy a new fitted sheet and pillow cases every 6-12 months and replace the whole lot every 3 years. I only buy white and it seems to fade after this time.

Those of you that have bedding for 10 years + what brand is it???

One set is 3 years old but is lidl bought so has gone threadbare and bobbly already. Others are Finlayson and are still as good as new. Only going to buy good quality Finlayson ones from now on (want Tom of Finland blanket cases next)

Fitted sheets need replacing more often because twat cat makes holes in them.

I'm not fussed about the brand.
it needs to be 100% cotton.
and I hate white, all are colourfull.

I have a single duvet cover that is 40 years old - bought when I bought my first duvet. It is still going strong on the spare bed - doesn't get used much now though.

DH insists on changing the bed twice a week, so it is a miracle they last any time at all! High thread count sheets the gulp at the price ones even when on huge discount seem to last forever, not so much the pillowcases. Have recently bought several sets of pillowcases and none are nearly as soft as the old (frayed, holy, ratty) ones, each set costing more than the last. No good, all. Am very sad about this. Need to be really soft and smooth; last truly great ones were french with beautiful lace but bought these about 20 years ago and now are fearfully shoddy!

So where do people buy this mythical super high quality stuff now? I've bought the 400 thread count stuff from John Lewis, and although nice, it's not as great as in some hotels I've stayed in, or even as thick and soft as the stuff on the beds in the maternity wards (remember the clean sheets being super lovely post c-section but may have just been off my face on the pain meds)!

We have 800-1000 thread count sheets

Some inherited, some bought in Germany, some bought in an auction (hotel closed down, and really nice thickness double sheets).

This is making me want to look at new bed linen.

I need some new stuff to replace the sets I got when I bought my first flat >14 years ago.

Those sets are john Lewis and Laura Ashely and they are just starting to wear.

I can't find anything I really like so am holding off until I do.

I don't think I've ever binned any. In fact I have a bedding box on my landing with odds and ends in. I must donate it to the pdsa. I have stuff from the 80's plus a "counterpane" that my grandma paid for weekly.

Every year when winter sets in we get new everything for our bed. New duvet new pillows new covers and sheets and new nightwear and slippers! Dp bought an electric blanket last winter and its honestly the best thing hes ever bought me! I spend a lot of time in bed just chilling in the cosiness when its nasty and miserable outside! The old covers still get used sometimes but mostly for dust sheets

Absolutely adore bed linen. Duvet cover and pillow cases are a standard Christmas gift from DM. I have cotton/ brushed cotton / linen. Mainly white. Perhaps 12 sets plus kids linen also. All changed every Friday morning. I love towels too.

Dimple - new every year? Don't you have hundreds of sets of everything? My slippers and pjs alone must be 10-15 years old. They both look as new
