To ask how often you replace your bedlinen

And do your pillowcases wear out faster?

My duvet covers and sheets are all stained with oil from massaging the pregnancy bump (annoying, tho no stretch marks so yay). Want to replace them all and buy extra spare pillowcases - mine always seem to fade quicker or get marks form make up / stain remover. Just curious how often people replace theirs, and how many sets you keep in rotation.

When they wear out or get unshiftable stains. DH's psoriasis ointments are a bugger for making sheets greasy and grey. My favourite duvet cover came from a department store closing down sale in 2005. It's the softest cotton, but is going into little holes around the embroidery now. Another set I bought at the same time is still going strong, but it isn't as soft so must be tougher. Pillowcases last forever. I've got some candy stripe ones that were Grandma's. They're visibly old but still absolutely fit to be seen. They must be at least 60 years old, probably more. Does anyone know when they were fashionable?

We have 4 sets in rotation, I wash them weekly. The longest-lived one is 12 years old, the newest was bought this winter to replace a 14 year old set that had just ripped. The other two are around 5 years old.

Pillowcases tend to last longer, I have lots of odd pillowcases in the cupboard whose matching duvet covers are no more, and many of them are over 20 years old.

Currently lying in bed beneath a linen sheet that has seen more decades than I care to contemplate. Sheets and pillowcases are always white, which removes the colour scheme issue, and I can suck up a mismatched duvet, so they get replaced when they wear out, and if good quality get mended - haven't sides to middled anything recently though!

I replaced my bedding recently. The two sets I had were wedding presents from 15 years ago and were only replaced because they had worn at the edge nearest our heads.

Had I been thriftier I guess I could have seen a top panel on.

The new sets are nowhere near as nice Sad.

Current super-king bed sets were brought by DH about 5.5 years ago.

My previous king sets around 2000, still fine just don't fit bed/duvet which DH brought with him when he moved in.

Fitted sheets a bit newer as seem to have trouble finding one deep enough.

DS1 now has my old double bed and uses one of my king sets which was a present from my first wedding in 1998.

The king set on my spare bed has matching curtains and was brought about 1994.

A number of single sets used by DS1 & now DS2 are about 12 years old.

I don't think I've ever had a set I've brought as an adult wear out, pillowcases in much same condition as duvet covers.

My mum still has one of my old single sets from childhood (I'm 44) and probably others as well.

I have new bed linen (just throwing it out there that I now have an emperor size bed so don't have to breathe DHs breath when he snores, nor does his manky toenails reach me any more either!). Before that years and years. Will be years and years for this set too. Although I do use four pillowcases so they get all alternated

Currently lying under a duvet cover that I bought in 1999.

I do have newer ones but nothing under 5 years old. I put my head on the none matching pillow cases to save the 'good' ones from getting too grubby.

Ours were a wedding present so 15 years ago. Beginning to look a little threadbare. Will probably replace this year.

Squeaking - my mum had candystripe brushed cotton sheets when I was a child and I'm mid 50's. She's still got some and passed some to me when my dcs were little.
I'm still using some bedlinen we were given as wedding presents over 30 years ago. Mind you, I've got around 20 sets and I rotate them, so each set only gets used 2, maybe 3 times a year. Less now I have fleece sheets for the winter months.

I find that what DH refers to as ground sheets - i.e the fitted sheet we lie on - tend to wear out relatively quickly after 3-4 years. That's in spite of buying good quality high thread count. They always go threadbare at the foot end & eventually tear.

Duvet covers/pillowcases though, now they last many, many years. As PP said good quality cotten & linen can last lifetimes. I'm another one who goes for neutral sets so there's no going out of fashion or needing to change to go with decor etc plus with no bright colours they can't really fade, which can make sets look shabby even when there's still plenty of wear left in them.

I have a pair of sheets given to me by my DM with the Utility Mark on them - which was used on items in the 1940s - they are fabulous cotton and have outworn several other sets of sheets.

Most of my bed linen came from my grandmother who I believe had never purchased a set herself but I also buy very high TC sets from king of cotton and expect them to still be usable after I'm dead and putridfied

My DC seem to ruin theirs regularly with pen marks etc. It winds me up. I also flood when on my period so a lot of my sheets get ruined :( if my period comes when I am asleep, that's that.

All the time! Our oldest set is maybe 3 years old.Any that we don't want anymore I pass onto the local charity shops.

I love buying new bed linen,we have 5 sets and I'm buying some more this week coming.
I swap them around when I feel like it,I strip all 6 beds(there's 7 of us)every friday anyways so I can swap the bedding around every week if I want to.

Our 5DC have 4 sets each and I'm going to get them to all pick a new set for each of them when I buy us some more.

We bought two lovely new (expensive) brushed cotton sets at the beginning of the winter which are on a weekly rotation. The non-winter stuff is mainly from Asda and a couple of years old, but so cheap and cheerful I am happy to replace it if it gets grotty.

DS's favourite duvet cover is the one I took to university with me 35 years ago. It's a bit threadbare now, though.

I have some bed linen that was my grandmother's, so they are quite old. I don't use them as the patterns aren't to my taste, but they are very good quality.

I suppose I buy new bed linen every few years, I'm not sure how often. I should really invest in some decent high thread count stuff.

Bottom sheets when they become bobbled or holey or period blood stained (some just don't fucking shift!). Pillows only when I feel they just don't come out of the machine looking properly white. Duvet covers never seem to wear.

But I always just buy plain white and it all goes in a big hamper so couldn't tell you when I last bought a new "set".

DD is currently sleeping with a duvet cover that belonged to my DSis when she was at boarding school...DSis is now 47.

My mum has only just retired some sheets she got given as a wedding present in 1966.

So I'm firmly on the side, once they rip and are unusable

I also have a blanket with the utility mark from ww2. it came from my granny. Sheets from the 1970's also in lots of browns and swirly patterns but top quality only just gone thin in the middle.

I love bed linens. I want some more, son really crisp white hotel style ones.

We upgraded from double to king about five years ago so that's how old ours are, but generally I don't 'replace' as such - I just get new ones!
