To think you don't buy gifts for expectant fathers?

I'm referring to work.

It's very usual to buy the expectant mother a present when she's about to start her maternity leave.

This is the first time I've been asked to give towards buying a gift for an expectant father.

I really do not like the guy so my judgement may be clouded. Aibu to think it's not normal?

If it's something for the baby or the family, then it is completely normal. If it's lotion for him to rub into his stretch marks, then it's a bit weird.

I agree with the majority here, the gift is for the baby. I wouldn't discriminate putting into a baby collection, based on the sex of the parent.

It is normal to buy an expectant father a gift. In banking we usually get them some expensive cigars and a montblanc pen/bag etc

We do we have a collection usually buy something for the baby and get a card for the new family

I've contributed to both mothers and fathers when a new baby is born. A card and a cute babygro, same as I would get the mum - it's not like the mum gets a baby gift and the dad gets a case of beer and a cigar!

I got a lovely basket of baby stuff from my (all female) team - totally unexpected but lovely.

Would happily contribute to a male staff present - but then we are quite a 'close' office, albeit with ocassional breakouts of stroppiness.
