To wear children's clothes even though I'm in my late 40s? (Pic)

Both the jeans and the top are from Tesco, 13-14 years boys' (I haven't tried on any girls' stuff, I don't like fitted tops... or fitted anything, really). So much cheaper than adult clothes, and I think they look cool. Blush Oh, and I already have some 13-14Y knickers from ASDA, I think they were £2.50 a pack. They are baby pink Hmm but no one at work will see that. Grin Anyway, I haven't actually bought this outfit, but this weekend I might just explore the children's clothes section in a few supermarkets. AIBU?

I wear children's clothes and shoes often, they are much much cheaper.
I don't think those jeans look right though, they are too short.

Far be it from me to tell you what to wear, but thats an outfit my 17 year old brother would choose.

IonaNE · 03/02/2017 21:45

Off to bed now but thanks everyone! Smile

Have "Far be it from me to tell you what to wear, but thats an outfit my 17 year old brother would choose."

So....?

redlittlesquirrel · 03/02/2017 23:22

I'm tiny so tend to have to go for kids trousers otherwise they're just too long and have quite often in the past had kid's tops. Sure, it's cheaper but the choice can be dire as they're obviously not designed for an adult.

There's nothing wrong with it if you're happy with it though.

BewtySkoolDropowt · 03/02/2017 23:30

To the comments about not having a very feminine shape, well I don't think looking stylish is always about showing your 'feminine shape'...!

I mentioned the silhouette. I saw someone else mention feminine shape. Both of us also said that if op was happy with it, then great! Personally I'm not convinced that teenage boys dress to be stylish - fashionable maybe, but the two are not synonyms.

sk1pper · 03/02/2017 23:30

Do what you want mate! Comfort always comes first. Maybe check our Romwe, I recon you would like the stuff on there and it's very cheap and super comfortable.

TheFairyCaravan · 03/02/2017 23:34

I'm in bed in my kids pyjamas. They've not got Peppa Pig or anything on, just a plain grey top and grey checked bottoms.

I buy quite a lot of kids clothes. It saves a fortune. My Uggs are kids, but a size 5, I always buy kids trainers and socks. I tend to stick to plain stuff I don't particularly want to bump into a 10yo in the same outfit as me.

Lorelei76 · 03/02/2017 23:38

Pfft to feminine
Id pay to get rid of my t & a if it was safe.

Seriously op I missed that you lost weight, well done. I'm losing too so hopefully the t & a will go back to being as I was.

Lorelei76 · 03/02/2017 23:40

Oh and thanks for the thread
I really didn't think of buying trainers in kid size, that will save me a lot.

MissJSays · 03/02/2017 23:54

I have aged 13-14 years jeans from matalan, £9 and they're the best jeans I own! Honestly guys you should all look in the matalan teens section I think it goes up to aged 15 and that's about a women's size 12. They actually have nice things too, obviously some of its very 'tween' but they have loads of nice normal stuff too!

Tigerstar123 · 03/02/2017 23:54

I too buy kids shoes! Find that they are far sparkly than the adult (boring) range! As a pp has already commented too, they are cheaper as no VAT.

user1477282676 · 04/02/2017 00:07

You lost 2 stone! Well done OP. How did you do it?

HashiAsLarry · 04/02/2017 00:16

As much as it is hated I love leggings. Children's leggings for some reason are better quality than adult leggings. I am slim and short enough to fit into teenage clothes. I wear kids leggings all the time. What I don't get however is how teenager leggings are often longer than adult ones Confused

BikeRunSki · 04/02/2017 00:18

I have size 8/9 feet and always wear flats. I Gege a lot of shoes from Next boys' section.

Klaphat · 04/02/2017 01:30

I think if the T-shirt was a bit (10-20 cm) shorter and a teeny bit slimmer around the stomach/hip area, it would be perfect. The length is just a bit off, in that it makes your legs look very short compared to your body. But regardless, of course you can wear children's clothes!

CrazyCavalierLady · 04/02/2017 02:39

I work in school management. Due to staff shortage I was helping an upset little girl in the first aid room. In an effort to calm her I exclaimed "Oh I LOVE your shoes! I have the very same ones at home!" The tactic worked she was delighted, we had a lovely chat whilst she waited for medical attention and she asked me to wear them to school/work one day ... every day since she has come to the office to ask for me and check if I'm wearing my mauve and fluro yellow joggers. I'm going to have to just take them in, they really won't go with the corporate navy suits Grin

So YADNBU. I'm small framed and 5'1" so often buy children's clothes and shoes. Never waisted jeans/pants or underwear though as the fit isn't right.

GinIsIn · 04/02/2017 03:53

I can't honestly say it's the most flattering outfit as it looks like what it is - teenaged boy's clothes.

But what is important is if you are comfortable in it. If so, wear what you like!

doggle · 04/02/2017 04:42

I went to collect ds from school wearing his hoody this week. He rolled his eyes and said 'just why?' and I said he had left it on the hall floor and I was cold. He's 15. I wear 13yo dd2's as well. I'm 5'2". I don't even mention the 17yo as we wear each other's. That said, I also wear dh's and he is a whole foot taller than me. I actually prefer dh or ds's as they are big.

The last thing I would describe them as is stylish though. I look like Stig of the Dump. But I am warm. And comfortable. And don't give a toss. And I quite like teasing ds by turning up to school in his clothes...

Sidge · 04/02/2017 11:36

@ToastyFingers and @HopelesslydevotedtoGu I buy these leggings from Next - ignore the 3-16mths on the heading, I think it's a typo as they go up to age 16!

I'm 5 foot 1 with a 29 inch inside leg and about a size 8 (quite pear shaped with small waist and heavier bum and thighs) and I have 2 pairs, one age 13 and one age 14 and they both fit well. The fabric is fairly thick and I find them really comfy.

I also have a pair of Next women's black leggings in a size 8 and don't find them at all comfy - they fit ok around the waist and bum but then are really baggy on my thighs (which is weird as I have heavy thighs!) and then become really tight around my calves (and I have slim calves, not chunky) and are slightly too long, even in the petite fit. I think they're designed for carrot legs.

ToastyFingers · 04/02/2017 11:39

That's excellent, thank you!

MorrisZapp · 04/02/2017 11:44

I'm certain that high street shops add needless childish details to their ranges to stop adults from doing this. See every pink flower ever appliqued onto denim or khaki.

I buy plain white vests from m&s boys schoolwear department. Look at the average big teenage boy - bigger than adult women. When DS hits that age I'll never need to buy myself another hoodie again. Can't wait!

Longislandicetee · 04/02/2017 11:53

I am 5'1 with 29" inside leg and size 6 in adult clothes. I discovered about 3 years ago that I am age 12 in most shops. Of course it should have occurred to me earlier since I stopped growing about 30 years ago....age 12Grin

Best buys have been Gap jeans which I got right at the end of the sale for £5. I also discovered that m&s Christmas jumpers are much nicer in the kids department.

I am a size 3 in shoes. The Russell & Bromley quilted ballet flats which are £130 in the adult section are £40 when I get them in the children's section upstairs.Hmm

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 04/02/2017 13:34

No VAT = common sense buying.

I'm 5 2" and if I were a bit slimmer, I'd be raiding the girls section in M&S.

HashiAsLarry · 04/02/2017 13:36

Thanks for all the shopping tips Flowers
