Am I being silly?

I am currently on maternity leave.
DS is 5 months old.

I am entitled to take up to a year off but was planning to go back after 6 months as I won't be paid (except for smp) after that.

Here is the problem. DH and I both work ft. Both earn an ok salary - we are not rich but manage fine.
I want to take an extra 4 weeks off meaning I sacrifice a months salary. I think we can afford it.
DH is not happy as we are preparing our house to sell and wants us to save every penny. He also keeps on saying he doesn't see what difference an extra month will make.
I've really enjoyed my leave so far. We won't have any more children so I want to make the most of it. I feel like when I go back to work that'll be it, back on the treadmill with no end in sight. I'll be the one having to organise everything on top of a full-time job so 4 weeks more isn't much to ask. He's said if that's what I want he will support me but after a disagreement today I see that he is unhappy about it.
Am I selfish to take the extra time?

Honestly if I were you I'd think about taking longer - either the nine months of SMP or even the full year. They aren't little for long, and if you can possibly manage then it's worth considering. Some things are more important.

Just be careful taking more than 6 months won't impact on your job. With my work I can take a year and would be guaranteed a job back at same terms and conditions including salary but I am only guaranteed my existing role if I return within 6 months so if I was to take 7 months they could change my role. It's a small risk for me but a risk nonetheless as whilst the salary would be priority I wouldn't want to be dumped into a different department or role.

4 weeks is nothing if you can afford it!
Would there be the option of going down to 4 days a week for the next 4 mths instead tho? Same time/money loss just in a different way? It might help make the return a little easier?

@Mrs40 my role will be the same regardless. I have been in regular contact with work, they are very supportive (checked with my line manager) if I choose to take off longer. I'm very lucky in that respect.
It's just DH I need to convince...
