Freeview children's channels next to adult channels

CerealShopper · 03/02/2017 14:40

Could they have not put them a bit further away from each other?

ghostyslovesheets · 03/02/2017 15:01

Don't let kids have the remote

Dong subscribe to the adult channels

Job done

ghostyslovesheets · 03/02/2017 15:01

Haha dong 😂 My phone is trying to be funny!

Don't obviously

PebbleInTheMoonlight · 03/02/2017 15:04

Adult content is post watershed so shouldn't be visible or has to have a pin to access when little ones are watching TV...unless you're raising nocturnal beings.

PippilottaViktualia · 03/02/2017 15:05

You can delete channels...

SpongebobRoundPants · 03/02/2017 15:07

They are also near the religious channelsShockShockShock

TheCustomaryMethod · 03/02/2017 15:11

Is this directly through Freeview or via another provider.

On my Freeview TV, the news channels come between Children's and Adult - 127 is the last Children's channel, news is 130 - 135 and Adult starts at 171.

There may be regional variations but it might be worth trying a reload of your channel list - I'm almost sure the order of channels was changed at some point to stop the scenario you describe.

TheCustomaryMethod · 03/02/2017 15:12

^ first sentence should have been a question, not a statement.

CerealShopper · 03/02/2017 15:29

I have recently bought Now TV, but I'm pretty sure it was the same with plain old Freeview.

I will try deleting the porn channels, as we don't watch them, but my main issue is with my 6yo seeing the channel names really.

OP posts:
OlennasWimple · 03/02/2017 15:34

I know what you mean and YANBU

Not in the UK, so the system is a bit different, but within two clicks of scrolling through the "what's on" guide it's possible to go from a kids channel showing cartoons to very very adult content. On at all times of the day (no watershed here), and the titles of the films are definitely and completely not suitable for young eyes. And I'm very far from prudish!

TheCustomaryMethod · 03/02/2017 15:37

The list of names on normal Freeview isn't explicit - I'm not sure there's anything there that that would corrupt a child who simply read the channel name. Perhaps it's Now TV that the issue is with, rather than Freeview (no idea what their adult channels are called)?

Yes, in the UK the kids tv and porn is essentially on the same page and I don't see why they can't be sited elsewhere.

OP posts:
CerealShopper · 03/02/2017 15:43

Customary you're probably right - it's the fact that I know what they are I suppose, dd has no idea

OP posts:
SpongebobRoundPants · 03/02/2017 15:45

During the day I don't think they play anything though? It just says we will be back a X o'clock.

I promise I didn't just click on one

TheCustomaryMethod · 03/02/2017 15:48

Perhaps it's because peak viewing takes place in the evening, and it would be inconvenient for everyone to have to scroll through a sequence of children's channels that had shut down, in the middle of searching for entertainment.

(I'm just suggesting a possible rationale there, by the way - I personally don't mind at all how the channels are arranged, because I'm not a 'surfer' - I only switch on for specific programmes and always type in the channel number manually).

TheCustomaryMethod · 03/02/2017 15:51

If your DD asks what's on 'Babestation' you could just say you didn't know - I genuinely don't have a clue what's on half the 80 or so ever-changing Freeview channels my TV receives! Confused

HelenaGWells · 03/02/2017 15:52

I'm fairly sure that sky had a setting where we could totally remove them from the
Listings but I've no idea if Now TV does.

Yukbuck · 03/02/2017 15:58

I actually just turned my free view on just to check this out and previous posters are correct. Most said they will be on air from 10. I've no idea how much is shown mind you. I've never watched!

TheCustomaryMethod · 03/02/2017 16:00

My TV will let me select which channels the guide brings up, but I think that's a feature of the TV rather than Freeview itself - it might be worth checking the manual to see if your TV has a similar feature. Mine's a very basic 22" Samsung, so I'm guessing it's a fairly common function.

barinatxe · 03/02/2017 16:07

It would make more sense to move children's channels further apart from adult content, but as others have said, the adult channels are only broadcast at times when most normal children will be in bed.

Try free-to-air satellite (not Freesat) if you think the ordering on Freeview is bad. Channels are muddled up all over the place. If you plod through the channels in order, it slowly descends into a regular pattern of shopping / gambling / Islamic cleric / softcore porn (those channels where you are supposed to ring up to speak to the woman lazing on a bed in her underwear) / Islamic sermon / virtual roulette wheel / softcore porn / Islamic cleric / softcore porn - you get the idea.

Grinchatchristmas · 03/02/2017 16:09

I only said the same thing to my husband the other day. I know you can delete them but why put them so close to the children's channels in the first place?

OlennasWimple · 03/02/2017 16:20

Flicking through available programmes on now (again, not in the UK), I can go from Lake Placid Vs Anaconda straight to MILF Tricks Teens to 18YO Asian Opens Wide For... to Drill My MILF Pink Until She Scre... to Weekend Warm Up on MTV Shock

(The ... is where the full title is not visible on the preview screen)

TheCustomaryMethod · 03/02/2017 16:23

Blimey! Is it late at night where you are, Olennas?

CerealShopper · 03/02/2017 16:40

Who the hell comes up with these titles!!

OP posts:
CerealShopper · 03/02/2017 17:49

Well, I have tried deleting the offending channels but can't fathom out how to do it.

OP posts:
OlennasWimple · 03/02/2017 20:45

No, I'm behind the UK - those films were being broadcast as lunchtime viewing...!
