to regret giving my postman a Christmas tip and confront him on Saturday am?

I do a fair bit of online shopping and shock horror, have a 9-5 job. I have told my postman (David W) to PLEASE LEAVE PARCELS AT THE DOOR (it's sheltered and not in view of the street) and I also have a yellow A4 sign to that effect permanently displayed. I thought we had an understanding now and gave him £10 at Christmas which he seemed very pleased with.

But lo and behold today, when I'm expecting a LARGE parcel, oh, I have a "sorry we missed you" card signed from him. It's not even a "signed for" parcel so why did he not just leave it at the door? Am I right to suspect he never had it with him in the first place?

I have booked a redelivery online for Saturday am. WIBU to ask for a refund of the tip?!!!

I think you think your really cool and sarcy but in reality you just sound like a twat with nothing better to do then moan about your postman doing his job.

LouKout · 02/02/2017 20:25

They often deliver the card the day after the failed delivery, I was told.

BakeOffBiscuits · 02/02/2017 20:27

There doesn't seem any rhyme or reason to what gets left.

We work from home and live rurally and do a lot of Internet shopping, so we get a lot of deliveries.

We have had "signed for" stuff left by the door or in the driveway. Then I've had unsigned for stuff not left, it doesn't make sense, but that's life!

The only time I went nuclear phoned to complain was when a driver left my new shiny kitchen aid at the end of the drive, just in sight of the road. It was like he'd left one of my children unattended Grin

MixedUpConfusion · 02/02/2017 20:28

David is an extremely common name... could be a different one. With a van. That doesn't want to lose his job.

Mirador · 02/02/2017 20:30

Royal Mail are bound by way more rules than say Amazon, clue is in the name 'ROYAL Mail'. I haven't asked but I don't think Amazon makes you sign the official secrets act when you go work for them.

You could always subscribe to their 'Keepsafe' service so your posty doesn't have to worry about doing you favours any more.

letsmargaritatime · 02/02/2017 20:30

My postman used to sign for my recorded deliveries and then leave them on the step (we are very rural) then he started leaving them in the porch (never locked) Then he started trying the front door (usually unlocked) after knocking a token couple of times, and popping the parcel on the table inside. Before long he was not even knocking, just opening the front door and calling out "morning Mrs M-T, been treating yourself again have you?!" Once I locked the front door because I was going to shower and he called through the letterbox, "the door's locked so I've just left the parcel on the step today" sounding a little put out.

Be careful what you wish for.

Allthewaves · 02/02/2017 20:31

You can get a parcel lock box, next door has one on their wall for parcels.

WellErrr · 02/02/2017 20:37

My postman leaves our parcels in the porch and I'd be well cheesed off if he suddenly stopped.

haveacupoftea · 02/02/2017 20:40

Refund on the tip Hmm he's just doing his job, the way its supposed to be done.

Peanutbutterrules · 02/02/2017 20:42

An astonishing case of 'alternative' reasonableness

duxb · 02/02/2017 20:46

This is a joke, surely.

He could lose his job for leaving a parcel like that - and I'm sure you'd be the first to complain should a parcel happen to be stolen and yet you're desire to not have to collect from the post office supersedes all that?

You're genuinely suggesting a confrontation and to ask for a gift to be returned? The self-entitled nature of the post is astonishing.

ptangyangkipperbanguuh · 02/02/2017 20:47

Right, can I now complain about DPD and UK Mail who attempt to deliver stuff, taking a lovely pic of your front door and then you go online to rebook your delivery to a safe place or neighbour. They come back, leave a card, photograph the door . You try again. they come back, photograph the door, leave a card. It's like Dante's circles of hell. They just keep coming back every day and I can't stop them!! If I leave £10 on the door , will they go away??? I don't even want the shit present from my stepmother...maybe I can redirect it to David W. He'll leave it on your doorstep OP and then you can sell it on Ebay.

Maudlinmaud · 02/02/2017 20:56

Ha Grin and again ha Grin

londonrach · 02/02/2017 20:57

Signed for parcel, another postman, david worried it be stolen...as fir asking for tip back....thats vvvvvvvv rude and vvvvv strange behaviour. You joking arent you as its not normal to even think that.

user1484394242 · 02/02/2017 21:00

OP, what's your eBay ID? I would like to block you. You're just the sort of 'customer' we have to deal with on a daily basis. (The dishonest and rude ones)

AnyFucker · 02/02/2017 21:05

Arf

callmeadoctor · 02/02/2017 21:10

He may well have been training somebody or being shadowed by a boss so had to do things by the book! Which would explain it easily OP!

Verbena37 · 02/02/2017 21:20

Royal Mail use parcslforce to deliver large parcels boxes in pretty sure.

Ohyesiam · 02/02/2017 22:36

Do they not accept parcel delivery at hour work?

Ohyesiam · 02/02/2017 22:36

NoelHeadbands · 02/02/2017 22:44

You're not the boss of David W!

David W is the boss of David W! And yes, probably also has another boss who is NOT YOU

I think David W is trying to wind you up

holidaysaregreat · 02/02/2017 22:51

Why don't you have stuff delivered to work if you are always there and never home?
YABVU and a bit mean.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 02/02/2017 22:54

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 02/02/2017 22:57

Bellaposy · 02/02/2017 23:07
