To want to use a changing room at the swimming pool?

Where DD has her swimming lessons there are 4 changing cubicles, about 16 lockers and an open space changing area with benches and hooks etc..

Every single week some mums leave their child's stuff on a bench in a cubicle hogging it for the whole half hour lesson .

So anyone else has to either use a cubicle without being able to use the bench in there or change in the open area.

AIBU in thinking the lockers are there to actually be used?

Not unreasonable at all. They probably are trying to secure the cubicle so they can change in private afterwards. People might turn up at slightly different times and stagger the getting changed to go in to the lesson, but everyone comes out at the same time.

YANBU! I'd be tempted to take their stuff out of the cubicle and dump it on the floor rude sods! (I wouldn't actually do it, but I'd be tempted.)

Pick their stuff up and put it in a locker, or on a bench. Sorted.

Take the stuff out and put it on the bench in the open area. This drives me nuts. One time my DD was getting changed and some woman flung open the curtain and ordered her out as it was her daughter's cubicle and she shouldn't be using it if someone else's stuff is in it. I was not best pleased.

We have signs on our cubicles and the staff remove clothing that's left in during swimming lessons.

We were at a swimming pool on Sunday. There were hardly any cubicles to be found (and it was mixed sex open to the swimming pool type changing areas, so you had to have a cubicle). We finally found one that someone had left their bag in. So I picked the bag up and put it on the ground outside and we used the cubicle.

It is not acceptable to leave your stuff in cubicles to try to prevent other people using them.

Just put their stuff out on a bench in the communal area. Or ask staff to do this. Cubicles are there to be used.

It's just like bags on seats on trains, except the owner isn't there, so rather than ask them to move it you have to do it yourself.

This is the sort of experience whereby cheeky fuckers get away with incredible, selfish rudeness, persistently, because everyone else is too polite - falling over themselves to conform to standards, yet failing to challenge those who blatantly break those standards. Makes no sense! Be more assertive!

Move the stuff. Ridiculous behaviour. If I could (DD too young to be left alone at the mo for example but I would if she was older) I would take the stuff out to the front desk / lost property and say it was abandoned in a cubicle.

I wouldn't move people's belongings as they may then state items are stolen or you may get the blame if items are missing. But I would complain to the swimming pool staff. It's very selfish

I would move their stuff to a bench (although I'd want to leave it on the floor) and maybe have a word with the staff to see if signs can be put up (there are at my local pool).

Grow some ovaries and move that shit every time. Either put in on a worktop (next to sink/mirror/hair drier) on top of a cupboard, on a bin or failing that, the floor.

This is an epidemic at dd's swimming. DH dumps the stuff outside so dd can use it and the palava people make of it is unbelievable. DH is extremely non confrontational but he stands his ground here. In fairness, there are signs everywhere not to leave stuff in cubicles.

I'd have no problem at all either putting their stuff in a locker or moving to a bench. Or if you don't feel comfortable doing that why not ask a member of staff to do it.

There are signs about this at my pool.And the staff will remove stuff. It's very inconsiderate. I would also move the stuff if necessary (but probably deny it!)

This is unlikely. In any case, the pool almost certainly would take the view that you deserve no sympathy if you leave your stuff unsecured rather than using a locker and something goes missing.

These people will only stop if people just get on with moving their stuff every time. The message will eventually sink in and even if it doesn't, you'll still be able to use a cubicle.

I moved someone's stuff out of a cubicle at the gym the other day. I don't usually use a cubicle but I;ve not long had surgery and nobody wants to have my scars flashed at them by mistake.

Locker blockers are just as bad though - our gym has lockers you can secure with a padlock, so some people just leave their gym kit there all the time, in their own personal locker. The staff do come out every so often and clear them out though

I personally would move stuff out, if possible onto a wet floor. Might put them off being so selfish in future.

Move their stuff. I do. Its selfish and entitled to think you can hog a changing room why you're not using it.

Move their stuff, I have done it before. I put it on a bench so it's very visible if they need to find it and also doesn't get so wet/dirty as the floor (but I am tempted...!). Some people are so entitled it's unbelievable and lack any consideration for anybody else.

I would definitely have moved it to a bench outside or a locker.

I just ignore the possessions and use the cubicles. When people come flapping up all indignant that their possessions are in there, I just hand it all out to them slowly in dribs and drabs in my own good time.

Either move their stuff or use the cubicle anyway. It is a very selfish thing to do with such a high turnaround of children changing (half hour lessons here). I told DD to ignore the clothes in there and get changed anyway, and put her bag into a locker. Then when she gets out, if she can't find an empty cubicle just pick one and use it even if there are clothes in there.

A mother did complain that her child couldn't get dressed as DD was in the cubicle. The staff pointed at the signs on the wall and said - yes, this is why we advise you not to leave things in the cubicle, you will have to wait now .

If I find lockers hogged on holiday with clothes in but not locked, I take the stuff out and dump it on top of the locker so that I can use it. If they want a locker they should use £1 same as I do.

The staff at my local pool never monitored the rude feckers in the changing room, despite there being signs saying that clothes left in cubicles would be removed. Why not make their life even easier and deliver the pile of clothes to reception?

When this happened to me, I would either place the clothes neatly outside the cubicle and use it. Or would occupy the cubicle as long as I needed it and allow them to collect their clothes when I had finished.

You wouldn't believe the outrage and furious knocking that would ensue when they realised they couldn't do exactly what they wanted at the expense of other people. I would just say 'I can't let you in I'm getting changed in here!' and then come out when I was ready. They can't do anything because they are completely and utterly in the wrong. Do cordially invite them to call a staff member if needs be.
