Many, many people took recreational drugs in the 90s. Where are they now?

I'm not a drug addict and none of my friends were at the time, we just took Es at the weekend, sometimes other drugs. We all went to work or college, seemed like everyone else did this too. We had a great time, weekends were for dancing and hugging, I didn't get on with drunk people and one night stands and it suited me much better.
I moved away from where I grew up, nice area to another nice area.
When I mention partying in my youth to other mums where I live now, they look at me as if I'm an addict who needs help Confused.
Are they all pretending? There were thousands of us doing this so where are they now? And why do people who never took drugs appear to feel so morally superior? One of the women where I live openly talks about cheating the system financially yet looks at me like I'm scum because I went out and had fun 20 years ago. (And probably once a year now!) I feel that because I mentioned this one evening in a pub I have alienated myself from the local mums.

And on a lighter note:
To try and get the thread back to fun frivolity it was meant to be :

Agree with pp about :

What a great song : Let me be your fantasy, is.

And my personal favourite:

Black Box : Ride on Time.

I had a disco 💃 in my lounge, just before Christmas. Mainly school mums and my PN mums.

We danced to many good tunes.

Drugs were discussed. Sleeping with unsuitable men also. A couple had never taken anything. No one minded, no one judged. Most reminisced with fondness.

Faithless we come one!

Darlink · 03/02/2017 19:08

Several of the people I knew who did recreational drugs are dead.

Oblomov17 · 03/02/2017 19:13

Aaah you lot. I can see a fair few choons being added to my Apple Music tonight! 🙌🏻

RingringWhoIsIt · 03/02/2017 19:27

I have a secret smoking habit but no longer take anything else. My partying days were from about 2005-2009 though.

Oblomov17 · 03/02/2017 19:49

I'm a lot older than you lot!! I'm late 80's early 90's. Never really hardcore.

It might have taken you two days if you weren't stoned, Oblomov Wink
You sound very clever, that's some heavy shit you were dissertating.

BenadrylCucumberpatch · 03/02/2017 20:13

Oblomov

Only if I can admit to once still being high from the previous night's E when I took an English Literature exam Blush Grin

Darthvadersmuuuum · 03/02/2017 20:14

Tune busyboy

StorminaBcup · 03/02/2017 20:47

Oblomov17 that's a perfect stoner conversation for academics! You could imagine it being discussed on a pile of beanbags while playing Call of Duty. Did you get a first? Grin

I remember I had been to Cream one weekend and went to work the next day (student supermarket job) after no sleep. It got to lunch time and I thought I was ok until someone in the queue sneezed and I'd hallucinated that it was a lion roaring (like the lion bar ad) Blush

TheCakes · 03/02/2017 21:29

Good call Benadryl!

This seems apt....

Oblomov17 · 03/02/2017 21:44

No. I'm not that clever. I only ever got a first in one thing : my Tolstoy essay.

BorrowedHeart · 03/02/2017 21:45

CitrusSun · 03/02/2017 21:57

Ah, the memories and so much fitter in those days due to what was an 8 hour workout of non stop dancing, not even out of breath, couldn't do 8 minutes now

OffToTown · 03/02/2017 23:14

OP
Offtotown you sound like a right laugh
Can I ask what your objection to recreational drug use is? Is it only the drugs trade?

There is no need to be so catty. Hmm. I grew up with plenty of friends and family taking drugs and went to events where drugs were openly available throughout my childhood (yes really Confused through to about my mid 20's Fortunately my friends were the type to respect my wishes - it wasn't an issue.

Yes the drug trade is the main reason I wouldn't use recreational drugs, Obviously some people don't give a shit about the people effected by it but I do. Regardless of whose fault it is if you chose to buy drugs then you ARE funding the drugs trade and organized crime. Blaming the government may make it seem more palatable but it's still your choice to do it.. If you are going to do it then at least own it.

Otherwise I live my life in a fairly standard way, I don't steal, I pay all my taxes, I don't fiddle my expenses and I don't park in Mother and Child spots unless I actually have a kid with me etc but . I'm not perfect and have never claimed to be.

CoteDAzur · 03/02/2017 23:30

"I disagreed with "people take drugs because they are a lot of fun""

But people do. And they are. What is there to disagree with? Confused

That was in reply to your odd claim that recreational drugs just serve to escape RL. Well, I've never needed to escape RL, neither did any of the hundreds of people I knew and/or partied with for a decade on three continents.

And do please stop with the littlest violin in the world going on about how drugs are not fun, they are a terrible addiction etc. You forget that many of us on this thread actually know what we are talking about. Didn't get addicted, had loads of fun, no regrets whatsoever.

I'd say "Put that in your pipe and smoke it" but no doubt you would hit back with a killjoy reply about pipes and smoking and how they ruin lives Grin

OffToTown · 03/02/2017 23:40

CoteDAzur. Although I dissaprove of people who take drugs due to them funding the drug trade I realize that they can be great fun. My Dad is in his late 80's and still reminisces about his wild drug taking youth, middle age and old age. Confused He still carries a bit of pot around with him for old times sake. 😂 He swears that LSD ruined his brain but he still has no regrets.
