Neighbour's extension

So the neighbours want to build. Original plans no problem but now they want to do something else.

As it is on the party wall they have to have a survey. Have insisted on my own surveyor which I know they have to pay for. Delayed their work while they submit new plans and give me a copy.

No entrance up my side passage, and if they want to scaffold my side of the fence then they pay for the privilege. My garden fence stays intact.

No Sunday or bank holiday working.

I've just been callled a bitch by next door. Why? All I'm doing is protecting my property and insisting they work reasonable hours.

I recently had an extension built. Required no access to anyone else's garden, doesn't overlook anyone, limited impact. My god was it hard work. So invasive. Builders all day. Couldn't have a cuppa without doing a tea round. Had to be up and dressed even on days offI found it so hard, worth it for the fab new space. No way could I do it for anyone else.

Good for you FrancisCrawford. I wasn't obstructive to my neighbour either. But I did charge him rent for setting up scaffolding in my garden and gave him a time limit for removing it and a penalty for over running.

Under the terms of our contract his builders cleaned the mess every evening and at the end of the project did a thorough clean, whitewashed the walls they had stained and cleaned the windows.

Lots of things in life are inconvenient but I see no reason to put up with them and pay for them for the convenience of other people

What goes around comes around...

Why go out of your way to be obstinate? I hope you don't require neighbourly support in the future OP.

Any reasonable neighbour would say they would be happy to help make the life of the neighbours having the extension as easy as possible and at an early stage make sure their concerns were raised at tha point. For example, I'm happy to have scaffolding in my garden but I'm keen that these plants aren't disturbed, or I want to have easy access at all times to this part of the garden, or I need to maintain privacy for this reason, etc, etc, etc. Digging your heels in and being obstinate and obdurate right from the start isn't ideal, as you've got to live next door to these people.
