Neighbour's extension

SooSmith · 01/02/2017 17:21

So the neighbours want to build. Original plans no problem but now they want to do something else.

As it is on the party wall they have to have a survey. Have insisted on my own surveyor which I know they have to pay for. Delayed their work while they submit new plans and give me a copy.

No entrance up my side passage, and if they want to scaffold my side of the fence then they pay for the privilege. My garden fence stays intact.

No Sunday or bank holiday working.

I've just been callled a bitch by next door. Why? All I'm doing is protecting my property and insisting they work reasonable hours.

OP posts:
Blueistheneworange · 02/02/2017 14:18

They won't be giving me a year of hell. They've been told that they have to submit revised plans. Which will be rejected because I know a councilor.

Nonsense - planning applications are not arbitrarily decided by Councillors - each application must be decided on merit and in relation to local planning regulation otherwise a decision can be appealed by the applicant and costs claimed against the planning authority - this can run into ten's of thousands of pounds.

Megatherium · 02/02/2017 14:23

I hope your councillor friend is aware of the consequences of corruption?

Kiroro · 02/02/2017 14:23

I don't think you'll be able to insist on being paid to scaffold your side.

Of course OP can. OP does NOT have to allow access on her sid of the fence at all.

staywoke · 02/02/2017 14:29

I don't think you're BU op. I wouldn't allow my neighbours scaffolding ruin my garden either. A garden is an extension of your home, not a free for all!

Patchouli666 · 02/02/2017 14:33

'because you know a councillor' unbelievable! If the extension is permitted development or you aren't within a restricted building area, you have no chance, council buddy or not! I'm not surprised based on that comment alone that the neighbours find you a bitch. Councilors are only involved if the decision goes to committee which is very rare in residential planning. ( unless listed or conservation etc) the planning officer will make the decision.

Having scaffolding on your side with legal and documented agreement they will put right or clean up any damage / mess is the least you can do.

kali110 · 02/02/2017 14:35

You sound awful. Let's hope you don't need a favour from them one day Hmm

loobyloo1234 · 02/02/2017 14:41

Which will be rejected because I know a councilor

Confused no wonder they called you a bitch

CripsSandwiches · 02/02/2017 14:49

*They won't be giving me a year of hell. They've been told that they have to submit revised plans. Which will be rejected because I know a councilor.

End of.*

You sound incredibly obstructive but it's not clear why - did these neighbours murder your cat or something?

I can understand you having concerns and wanting to negotiate reasonable working hours and limit the obstruction to your property (garden fences are expensive etc.) but why are you desperate to stop this extension or make it as difficult as possible? Surely it's nicer to get on with your neighbours and allow a little give and take. Why would it be a year of hell?

pipsqueak25 · 02/02/2017 14:56

Because i know a councillor* i know a chief inspector on the police but that won't get a conviction, you had my empathy too until you trotted out that one. i understand you wanting to protect your property but expecting payment for scaffolding and your councillor [wow that's impressive] really is shitty, i take they have the final say on the matter, least your neighbours appeal and now with your attitude i sure as heck would !

Mouthfulofquiz · 02/02/2017 15:03

My current next door neighbour's are inconsiderate, loud music, driveway blocking knobheads. There is no way in hell I will be allowing them onto my garden when they want their new extension building. I don't blame you OP.

Quartz2208 · 02/02/2017 15:11

What is it you dont like about the extension - your reaction clearly means you dont like something. You have clearly gone for the approach of no access and whilst everything you say you are perfectly within your rights to do you come across as truculent and not willing to compromise.

dowhatnow · 02/02/2017 15:21

I'm afraid you do sound very unneighbourly. Fine but then I understand the neighbours thinking you are a bitch. Perhaps they shouldn't have verbalised it though...

Why do you hate them though? I admit I wouldn't like it but i would understand why they do and would try to be neighbourly. You aren't even trying.

Trifleorbust · 02/02/2017 15:27

You just sound horrid, OP. 'Make them pay for the privilege' - urgh.

Scrumptiousbears · 02/02/2017 15:48

Why did you post OP?

You seem very defiant and won't listen to anyone.

MelOrSue · 02/02/2017 16:20

I'm not sure what yourAIBU is?

I would be nervous to let someone else's builders on my land. They don't work for you and you wouldn't have any authority over them... So YANBU about that.

However you ABU and pompous about the councillor comment. It sounds like it might be hard for you but you should try and not let this get any nastier. It won't help you if you end up at war with your neighbours.

Neverm1nd · 02/02/2017 16:25

This is a reverse? Yes?

MelOrSue · 02/02/2017 16:33

Ohh, good thinking ...it could be a reverse..... 🤔

pipsqueak25 · 02/02/2017 16:42

this sounds like a reverse or an older person with nothing else to do, OR it could be an andy type [piano man] complaining, i was all for the op making a stand until they bought in the councillor nonsense. [i am an older person -wrong side of 45 - so call me out on that one if you like] Grin

pipsqueak25 · 02/02/2017 16:44

wonder if this will get in the daily fail ? 'neighbours at war over scaffolding' sad faces blah, blah.
sorry op but you have bought some of this on yourself tbh.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 02/02/2017 16:44

What have they done to piss you off so much? Is this about an extension or something else?

ratspeaker · 02/02/2017 16:45

Planning applications will not be refused just because you know a councillor. Is the councillor even on the planning committee?
Planning will be refused on legal objections not just st because you know somebody.

pipsqueak25 · 02/02/2017 16:52

op has probably left thread imo, if i was me i would have because i'd realise i've lost ground / support and probably now thinks we are the bitchy ones for pointing out the obvious of being u.

SoupDragon · 02/02/2017 16:53

I think your neighbour's are probably right.

SoupDragon · 02/02/2017 16:53

Ignore the bloody apostrophe. Autocorrect put it in, honest.

Jellybean83 · 02/02/2017 16:54

Hmm, I was with you until the councillor comment. Now I'm just thinking 'what a bitch'. I hope your councillor friend is a decent sort and values his integrity more than helping a friend use underhand tactics to get one over on a neighbour. Must be a pretty good friend if you are under the impression that he will commit corruption for you, putting his livelihood at risk.
