To think Jehovah's Witnesses can become a bit of an annoyance

There are two ladies that often come round our estate. There are many others that also come, but this particular couple are the ones who seem to call the most.
As I'm a SAHM I'm usually at home when they call. I would never be deliberately rude to them, but I'm getting a bit annoyed by them continually coming to my house. They know I've recently had a baby as the first time they came I was pregnant. They even turned up the day I went into labour and DH answered the door to them!

Last time I saw them they were hinting at coming inside to meet the baby. How on earth do I politely tell them I'm not interested? Some of the others who have been don't seem to take no for an answer!

I just tell them I'm Catholic, seems to get you on some 'damned in the fires of hell' no call list.

alltouchedout · 02/02/2017 09:56

I didn't know they still did door knocking, I thought it had been replaced by them standing around in town centres looking smart and bored as hell holding out magazines that no one ever takes.

I got door knocked by some people from the local RC church not so long ago. I had never experienced that before. it was funny, they asked almost aggressively "are you CATHOLIC?" and when I said no they literally turned and walked off without so much as a goodbye. There are some little old ladies who come from an evangelist church every so often; I actually quite like them as they are so gentle and sweet about asking whether there's anything I'd like them to pray about and they always say something nice about the dc or the cats.

Wantagood the thing about organ donation is particularly galling!! They do accept organ donation, but only if no blood is transferred, which makes the job hugely more difficult for doctors. Amazing doctors still do these transplants with all the additional challenge of doing it without blood transfusions. Imagine how galling it is for a surgeon to have to make his/her job that much more difficult in order to try and save the life of someone who is throwing irrational and absurd extra challenges in their way.

Wantagoodname · 02/02/2017 10:04

If you did some research into it the chances of healing quicker with less chance of infection are so much higher without blood. In fact there are now many doctors and nurses who would refuse a blood transfusion.
And hairyhands they don't believe in people going to hell

Wantagoodname · 02/02/2017 10:07

Just went on there website and typed blood in the question box, came up with loads of videos and stuff about it.
Instead of getting annoyed with them and there beliefs why don't you just see why they believe those things.
I have loads of jw family.

Laiste · 02/02/2017 10:08

I've RTFT up to the bit why posters are asking why JW attract so much annoyance as a religious group.

What? It's really quite simple. JWs are the only religious group who come to your house, keep knocking on the door and BE bloody annoying.

Don't start telling me i'm being racist because i get cross with them knocking on my door. Any more than i'm being ... 'criminalist' ... by telling the buggers selling dusters for a fiver each 'because they've just got out of prison' to sling their hook! Ruddy hell.

SpongebobRoundPants · 02/02/2017 10:09

Stick a sign in the window saying 'beware of the atheist dog'

JacquesHammer · 02/02/2017 10:14

Araminta99

I have no issue with them practising their religion how they want.

I have a massive issue with their "freedom of speech" involving harassing people in their home.

THAT is what I object to.

Formerpigwrestler9 · 02/02/2017 10:16

Who cares what they believe?
It's of no importance whatsoever
they just need to mind their own business and stop accosting people, or should we all subscribe to a belief system which compels us to show no mercy to cold callers?

Mamabird3 · 02/02/2017 10:19

I work on an Inpatient psychiatric ward and we've recently had an huge increase in jw coming and asking if they can visit the patients. We have a strict visiting policy as some of the service users are very unwell and the jw couldn't seem to understand that we wouldn't allow them on the ward uninvited to attempt to convert or recruit people to their religion. We have never had any other religious group come and attempt conversion of very vulnerable people. In the end, as they wouldn't take no for an answer and kept returning (bringing children etc) asking for visits and bringing leaflets they wanted us to hand out we had to get the ward manager to call the Kingdom Hall and tell them to not visit again. For what it's worth we always try to accommodate people's religious beliefs whilst they are in hospital and have links with various religious groups in our area who can come in to see service users. However I take a very dim view of anyone who tries to come and recruit someone who is potentially at the most difficult and vulnerable point in their lives.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 02/02/2017 10:27

They don't have a "leader" as such and only follow "God", so if JW's are a cult then so are all religions.

Who's Charles Taze Russell then? Hmm

Yes they are a cult, a cult that owns billions of pounds worth of real estate globally and receive millions in non taxable money due to tithing and their ability to 'expect' their followers to donate unpaid expertise in the building of kingdom halls.

They perpetuate the myth that a womans place is in the home and they are also not allowed to go into higher education. They are an end of the world cult and nothing more.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 02/02/2017 10:31

And yes ALL religions are a cult

helpimitchy · 02/02/2017 10:35

This what makes me angry Mama, the fact that they prey on the vulnerable. There are many mentally ill people in the community and in no way do they deserve to be targeted. Makes me very angry.

Calling door to door to pester people and spread potentially damaging nonsense should be outlawed. I doubt very much that they ever manage to ensnare mentally healthy people.

Wantagoodname · 02/02/2017 10:38

anotherposter where on earth did you hear that? The woman's place is the home?? The ones I know all work equally with their husbands!

And 2 jw cousins are at uni!!

Maybe you knew 1 family that did that but doesn't mean all do yhat

Why is it always the crank "religions" who send their drones out to do the doorstep challenge? And why do ordinary people give them the time of day? You should not answer your door to them and if you do answer - without realising what is behind it - do not engage with them but shut the door firmly in their faces.

"Wantagoodname

Garbage.

Wantagoodname · 02/02/2017 10:44

Because you say so cara?

Wantagoodname · 02/02/2017 10:46

Cara

To think Jehovah's Witnesses can become a bit of an annoyance
Moonywormtailpadfootprongs · 02/02/2017 10:48

I had a friend who died from Leukemia.

They were all JWs and she had donors... siblings matched etc. Her parents forbid it... because of religion.

I always take the pamphlets/books and bin them right in front of their faces when I pass them on the street.

And if I open my door and it's them... I close my door... saying nothing. Very rude... but I shouldn't have to explain to you why I don't want you at my door... I think if I did it wouldn't be very nice.

They are can smell vulnerability!

JustAnotherPoster00 · 02/02/2017 10:52

The ones I know all work equally with their husbands!

I presume they have no children

And 2 jw cousins are at uni!!

Are they devout? Id be very suprised if they are

Otherwise Id say you were lying tbh

Wantagoodname · 02/02/2017 10:55

Oh wow you say I'm lying? I can say the same thing- you're lying!
There you go.

The kids are at school btw. So yes they have kids.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 02/02/2017 10:56

Debate enough with them, with enough knowledge and like me they will eventually class you as an apostate and then leave you alone

CockacidalManiac · 02/02/2017 10:57

That is appalling, Mamabird3.
What a shower of cunts.

CockacidalManiac · 02/02/2017 10:59

Weird; none of the doctors or nurses that I know would accept that.

CaraAspen · 02/02/2017 10:59

"Wantagoodname

Because you say so cara?"

Talk to the hand. I am closing this door in your face. Got it?
