If anyone would like to contrast Trump's odious Black History Month speech (www.rawstory.com/2017/02/we-love-you-trump-honors-black-history-month-by-having-a-black-people-shower-him-with-praise/ you can watch CNN footage of the speech there) with one President Obama gave (at a reception rather than a press briefing, but even so...) the text of that is available here: www.obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/the-press-office/2016/02/18/remarks-president-black-history-month-reception

Reuters has told its reporters to treat Trump's America as they would an authoritarian regime: www.rawstory.com/2017/02/reuters-orders-reporters-to-cover-trump-like-an-authoritarian-regime-expect-physical-threats/

This is a UK thing and possibly slightly off topic but I think it will get lost in the news whirl when it is actually really important. It seems the government has been extracting personal information from the new NHS database of patients who are immigrants they have lost touch with. This is the thin end in my view. Medical information should be sacrosanct. Personal data should not be used for anything other than its intended purpose without going through the correct legal process. Even if the patient in question is potentially an illegal immigrant. It is setting a precedent that any data collected by the government on citizens can be used for any purpose.

I think we need to watch out for this sort of thing.

Oh, that's interesting what Farage was burbling at the European Parliament:

"Let us invite President Trump to come to this European parliament... I’m sure as democrats you would all agree that we need to have an open dialogue with the newly elected most powerful man in the world. If you throw that rejection back in my face then you prove yourselves to be the anti-democratic zealots I always thought you were. "

Translation: "I got dropped like a hot turd as soon as My Hero didn't need me any more, and Theresa turned up with the Queen in her pocket. Pleeeeeeeeeze invite him to address the EP so I can claim I got him that and he loves me again. Pleeeze. Pleeeeeeeeeeeze. Or you're all smelly and look like toads."

BigBadgers · 01/02/2017 18:13

I'm surprised they put up with him to be honest. He is such a turd.

PausingFlatly · 01/02/2017 18:13

Quite right to mention, BigBadgers. I saw that about NHS data too, and thought that "good day to bury bad news, huh?" Angry

Totally up for it, but we might need to compromise on the zebra head: trying to dance in things like that is 'mare even for the pros... face/body paint & Zebra ears? Can provide own (white, practice) tutu - or a (white) romantic one... also Zebra-print warm-up sock-thingys.

Unfortunately, as a Professional Cripple, my uncooperative body does tend towards the Well That Looks/Was Shite end of balletic spectrum. Even if I am Not As Useles As I Think I Am. I am, however, EXCELLENT at falling over "remarkably gracefully" Grin

Just watched Trump on the news - never thought that I would hear a president of the USA say the words 'go nuclear'. I realise this was not to be taken but its another off the cuff statement that shows just has no idea how to engage his tiny little brain before he speaks. Let's just hope he doesn't repeat that off the cuff 'go nuclear' phrase in reference to relations with other countries.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 01/02/2017 18:24

yep, any day Trump does something mental, look out for UK government quietly releasing things they need to release but will piss off the left...

Farage might have his own problems soon, looks like the EU are investigating possible misuse of funds by our Nige... You'd think UKIPers would learn.

Farage was even wearing a Trump pin when he was making that obnoxious speech, the utter arse.

originalmavis · 01/02/2017 18:31

Well just banging my head off the table after hearing some Yeehaws in the bible bashing belt interviewed on radio 4 about how 'Tru-hmp waw's sint by gawd', how the protestors were motivated by the devil, etc etc.

Dear god, these people shouldn't have the vote really.

Roussette · 01/02/2017 18:32

On the possible blocking of the Supreme Court Judge announced yesterday... why are the Reps bleating on about the Dems possibly blocking the choice.

Apparently, Obama had to wait 68 days so how can the Reps talk of 'unprecedented obstruction'. They did exactly the same. Short memories.

Oh I bloody hope they can get the worthless toad for misusing EU funds. I mean, him being paid a salary as an MEP = a misuse of EU funds, frankly, given his failure to do anything but serve his own selfish interests - sooooooo concerned about the British fishing industry that he attended all of one out of the 42 meetings of the EU Fisheries Commission while he sat on it. Oxygen thief.

originalmavis · 01/02/2017 18:35

I think loads of people will go to Canada.

The PM there looks like the type to personally welcome you at the airport with a big mug of hot chocolate.
